Method 1 of 2: Making Hearts
Step 1. Fold two pieces of paper
Paper can be rectangular or rectangular-whichever works. For a classic and festive heart, use red, pink, or purple construction paper. If you want to make a large heart, use a large piece of paper.
Step 2. Draw an outline for the half of the heart shape
Start drawing a sketch starting from the fold of the paper, so that the top and bottom of the heart come from the fold. When you cut along this line from each side of the paper fold, you'll know for sure that each half of the heart is perfectly symmetrical about one another.
- The outline you draw will determine the final shape of the heart, so now is the time to decide on the aesthetic style of your paper heart.
- Use a pencil if the line is to be erased. Use a pen if you don't mind having a dark border on the paper heart.
Step 3. Cut the paper along the outline of the pencil
Start at the crease-the top or bottom center of the heart-and cut along the lines you drew. Cut carefully, don't worry too much about accuracy. After unfolding the heart, each side will look symmetrical, no matter how slanted the cutout is. Make sure you cut both halves of the fold.
If you don't want the dark lines to show up in the final result: cut right inside the pencil line, or erase them carefully afterwards

You will get a symmetrical paper heart. Now you're ready to give a heart to someone or use it for a bigger craft project!

Step 1. Use hearts
Give it to someone or include it in a larger craft project. If Valentine's Day is just around the corner, paper hearts can make a great simple gift for someone you like. However, don't be afraid to do it any time of the year!
Step 2. Make a heart-shaped card
Turn hearts into cards by writing sweet words on them and folding them. You can even stick the card onto a wider rectangular card, then write the words on the heart. Write a note to someone you like.
- For a playful card, write, "Will you be my Valentine?" or "I think you're really great."
- For a more serious card, write something like, "I love you," or "I gave my heart to you." Make sure you give it to someone who will be happy to receive this news!
Step 3. Add hearts to larger projects
Stick a paper heart on a card or poster. Use masking tape or a Blu-Tack to attach it to a wall or window. Use it as a separate section of a pop-up book. Be creative!
Tips
- It is better to use thin paper, because it will be easier to cut.
- You can save the edges of the paper and use it as a heart-shaped frame.
- If you don't want a crease in the center of the finished heart, cut the heart this way from scrapbook paper.
- Try to keep cutting on the inside of the line. Unless you want the paper to look messy!
