This wikiHow teaches you how to make “water” slime that looks as see-through as water. There are several water slime recipes that you can try. In addition, some slime recipes also only use non-toxic ingredients, such as water and shampoo. To find out what type of slime you want, you can try making the 4 slime recipes below!
Ingredients
Slime from Water and Corn Flour
- 1 cup (130 grams) dry cornstarch
- 120 ml of warm water
- 1-2 drops blue food coloring (optional)
Clear Slime from Salt Solution
- 120 ml clear PVA glue
- 60 ml water
- 20 ml saline solution (saline)
- tsp. baking soda
- 240 ml warm water
Chewy Slime from Shampoo and Water
- 120 ml clear thick shampoo
- 120 ml of water
- 1-2 drops food coloring (optional)
Clear Slime from Borax
- 120 ml clear PVA glue
- 120 ml water (to mix with glue)
- 120 ml warm water (to mix with borax powder)
- tsp. borax powder
- 1-3 drops blue food coloring (optional)
Step
Method 1 of 4: Clear Slime from Borax
Step 1. Mix 120 ml of water and 120 ml of clear glue in a bowl
Measure out 120 ml of clear PVA glue using a measuring cup, then pour it into a medium-sized bowl. After that, pour 120 ml of water into a bowl containing clear glue. Mix the two ingredients with a spoon until smooth.
- Most clear PVA glue is sold in 120 ml. If the glue package says 120 ml, you can immediately take out the entire contents of the glue into the bowl!
- If you want to double the size of your slime, you can also use 240 ml of clear glue and 240 ml of water.
- Don't use white glue! To make the resulting slime transparent, you must use clear glue.
Step 2. Add 1-3 drops of blue food coloring if you want to make blue water slime
Water is transparent, but you can also dye the slime blue for a more dramatic look. Even though it's not clear, slime made using food coloring will still look transparent. To color slime, mix 1-3 drops of blue food coloring and stir with a spoon.
If you don't have blue food coloring, you can use 1-3 drops of watercolor. Do not use acrylic paint to keep the resulting slime transparent
Tip:
You can also experiment with different combinations to create unique slime colors! For example, mix 1 drop of green food coloring and 2 drops of blue food coloring to create a beautiful light blue color.
Step 3. Mix tsp
borax and 120 ml of warm water. Prepare a new clean bowl to make the borax solution. After that, measure 120 ml of warm water using a measuring cup and put it in a bowl. Add tsp. borax powder and stir with a spoon. Stir the two ingredients until dissolved.
- Always use warm water! If you use room temperature water, the borax powder will not dissolve when stirred.
- If you want to double the size of your slime, use 240 ml of warm water and tsp. borax powder.
- Remember, borax can cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and lungs. Use borax with caution and keep out of reach of minors.
Step 4. Pour the borax solution into the bowl containing the glue solution, then stir
Stir the two solutions using a spoon until thickened. Keep stirring until the solution doesn't stick to the surface of the bowl.
- Don't worry if there is any residual borax in the bowl. As long as the glue manages to clump together, the rest of the borax water isn't a problem.
- To prevent air bubbles from forming, do not shake the slime when you stir it with a spoon. Air bubbles will ruin the "transparent" appearance of your slime.
Step 5. Remove the slime from the bowl and knead it with your hands
Continue to knead the slime until it comes together. The more often the slime is kneaded, the harder and less sticky the slime will be. Knead the slime for about 3 minutes.
If there are bubbles, leave the slime in a plastic container for a few hours. The bubbles will disappear on their own
Step 6. Put the slime in a closed container after use
This slime is quite slimy! A sealed plastic container is a good place to store slime. A special plastic bag for the refrigerator can also be used as an alternative. Store the slime at room temperature.
- Wash your hands before playing with slime. This is done so that the slime still looks transparent and clear.
- If stored properly in a closed container, slime will last for 1 week or more.
Method 2 of 4: Clear Slime from Salt Solution
Step 1. Mix 120 ml of clear glue and 60 ml of water in a bowl
Measure out 120 ml of clear PVA glue using a measuring cup, then pour it into a bowl. Add 60 ml of water and stir with a spoon. Keep stirring until smooth and the texture is consistent.
Tip:
Add 1-2 drops of blue food coloring if you want to make “seawater” slime.
Step 2. Add and stir 20 ml of salt solution into a bowl, then set aside
Make sure the salt solution used contains boric acid and sodium borate (borax). If you use a salt solution that doesn't contain these two ingredients, the glue won't turn into slime. After stirring the salt solution with a spoon, set the solution aside.
Step 3. Combine teaspoon of baking soda and 240 ml of warm water in a new bowl
Pour 240 ml of warm water into a bowl, then add tsp. baking soda. Stir with a spoon until dissolved. Then, set the bowl aside and let the solution cool.
Make sure you use baking soda, not baking powder! These two materials are not the same
Step 4. Combine the glue solution and baking soda solution, then mix gently
Pour the glue and salt solution into the baking soda solution. These two solutions will automatically coalesce into lumps of slime. Stir the mixture of the two solutions using a spoon.
The baking soda solution will activate the slime
Step 5. Remove lumps of slime and squeeze until hard
Generally, there is "a lot" of residual water in the bowl. Don't worry, it's okay! Remove the slime lumps and then knead with your hands for a few minutes. Keep kneading until the lumps thicken and have a slime-like consistency.
Discard any remaining baking soda solution when you're done
Step 6. Store the slime in a closed container after playing
After about a week, the consistency of the slime will change. However, the slime might still last longer. Always wash your hands before playing with slime. This is done so that the slime doesn't get dirty!
Method 3 of 4: Chewy Slime from Shampoo and Water
Step 1. Pour 120 ml of clear thick shampoo into a bowl
You can choose any shampoo color, but clear shampoo will make slime that looks like water. Choose a thick shampoo with a gel-like consistency. Do not choose a shampoo that is too runny.
Step 2. Add 1-2 drops of food coloring if you want to make “seawater” slime
You may be able to skip this step if you use a colored shampoo. However, you can also experiment with mixing different colors. For example, you can mix blue food coloring and yellow shampoo to make green slime. Don't add too much dye! Just add 1-2 drops.
If you don't have food coloring, you can use 2-3 drops of watercolor
Step 3. Mix and stir 120 ml of water into the bowl containing the shampoo using a spoon
The water will make the solution a little runny, but if you keep stirring it, the solution will thicken. Keep stirring until the shampoo thickens again.
- You can reduce the amount of water if you want to make thick slime. You can also increase the amount of water if you want to make slime a little more liquid.
- Do not knead the dough too hard or too fast to prevent bubbles from forming.
Step 4. Transfer the slime to a closed container and refrigerate for 2 days
Do not touch or play with the slime while it is cooling. When cooled in the refrigerator, the dough will harden and turn into slime! You can speed up this process by freezing the dough for 3-4 hours, but the results may not be very good.
Step 5. Store slime in a closed container when not in use
Since slime is made of simple ingredients, it may only last for 2-3 days. If the slime starts to lose its texture, you can try stirring it again and putting it in the fridge for 2 days.
If the slime is too runny when playing with, try putting it in the refrigerator for a few hours and observe the results
Method 4 of 4: Slime from Water and Cornflour
Step 1. Place 1 cup (130 grams) of dry cornstarch in a medium-sized bowl
Measure the cornstarch using a measuring cup. After that, put the cornstarch in a bowl.
Use a spoon to smooth out the lumpy cornstarch
Step 2. Pour 120 ml of warm water into a bowl and stir
Add the warm water little by little until it reaches the desired consistency. Fill the glass with warm water. After that, put the warm water into the bowl using a spoon, about 15 ml once. Stir the dough using a spoon until smooth.
- The dough will thicken more when stirred.
- The warm water will prevent the cornstarch from clumping.
Step 3. Add 1-2 drops of food coloring, if necessary
If you want to make colored slime, you can add food coloring to the dough. Just add 1-2 drops of food coloring. However, you can experiment by increasing or decreasing the amount of food coloring used to create the desired color shades.
Step 4. Keep stirring with a spoon and add warm water until the mixture thickens
You can determine the consistency of the slime according to your preference. Make sure the slime is thick enough and can stick together!
- If the slime is too runny, add the cornstarch and stir.
- If the slime is too thick, add water.
Step 5. Take the slime out of the bowl and play
The sticky and chewy texture of slime is very fun to play with. After playing with slime, store it in a resealable plastic bag. This is done to keep the slime moist.
You can throw away the dirty slime
Tips
- If you want to make slime that looks like seawater, use light blue food coloring. Alternatively, you can mix blue and green food coloring.
- If you're making sea slime, try mixing it with glitter, sequins, or fish-shaped beads.
- If there are bubbles, you may be kneading the dough too fast and air is getting into it. Knead the dough slowly!
- When making chewy slime, instead of using food coloring, you can add colored water to the dough.
