Those of you who were born with straight hair may want to try a new atmosphere by making your straight hair wavy. These waves will make your hair look thicker and more bouncy. To make wavy hair is not so easy. You may need some product for your hair while practicing curling techniques with or without heat. However, you don't have to worry. With these ways, you can be sure that you will get beautiful wavy hair!
Step
Method 1 of 5: Wearing Braids Overnight
Step 1. Wash and condition hair
Follow your hair care routine from washing to conditioning hair. Try to do this in the afternoon or evening when you have time to wait for your hair to dry.
Step 2. Dry your hair with a towel
Use a towel to get some extra moisture out of your hair. After that, wait until the hair is 75% dry.
Step 3. Apply mousse to the hair
Choose a mousse with a strong hold and then apply it to add volume to your hair.
- You can also apply a texturizer to your hair. This product will prevent the waves from coming back straight.
- Adjust the hair product you use to the length and texture of your hair. For example, mousse is better for straight and fine hair, while styling cream is best for controlling thick, unruly sections of curly hair.
Step 4. Squeeze the hair upwards
After applying the mousse, use your hands to squeeze the hair. This will help your hair from getting straight back too quickly.
Step 5. Let hair dry completely
This step can take some time, especially if you have very long hair. If you want to speed up the drying process, you can turn on a heater at home or leave your hair out in the sun.
Step 6. Apply a texturizer spray
Spray texturizer spray all over your hair to block the waves.
Step 7. Braid your hair into 4-5 braids
First of all, divide your hair into 4-5 sections. Then, braid each piece loosely and tie it with an elastic band. You can also hold the braid by simply squeezing or twisting the ends of the braid if enough texturizer has been applied.
Apart from braiding, you can also twist or twist your hair
Step 8. Leave the braid overnight
Sleep with your hair in a braid. You don't have to worry if the braid becomes messy or looser because it will still give a beautiful wave even if it has a slightly messy effect.
Step 9. Unwrap the braid slowly
After getting up in the morning, slowly untie your braid. Do not comb the hair either by hand or a comb so that the wave effect is not reduced.
Step 10. Squeeze the hair up and add hairspray
Use both hands to slightly squeeze your hair upwards and then apply hairspray to hold the waves.
Step 11. Braid your hair again every night
Before going to bed, divide your hair back into 4-5 braids. You don't need to wash your hair and start the whole process from scratch every night.
- You don't really need to use a texturizer spray every time you want to start the process. However, if this is felt necessary, you can give it a little on the hair.
- If your hair is really thin or short, and easily dulls and greasy, you can start the process from scratch.
- Wash your hair every few days.
Method 2 of 5: Using a Salt Water Mix
Step 1. Make a brine mixture
Making your own brine mixture is not difficult. This mixture will give you the same wave effect you would get if your hair was exposed to seawater. After making sure the spray bottle is clean, put the following ingredients in the bottle:
- 1 cup hot water
- 1-2 tsp. sea salt
- 1 tbsp. coconut oil or argan oil (or mix tbsp for each oil)
- tsp. leave-in conditioner or leave-in conditioner
Step 2. Shake the bottle to mix all the ingredients
Make sure the salt is dissolved and all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed. This stage will only take about 1 minute.
Step 3. Wash your hair and dry your hair with a towel
Wash your hair in your usual routine and then dry with a towel to get the extra moisture out of your hair.
Step 4. Spray with salt water
Make sure you spray all over your hair. Flip your hair up and down so you don't miss the inner hair.
Step 5. Squeeze the hair with both hands
After applying the spray, immediately squeeze the entire hair for a few minutes.
Step 6. Braid your hair loosely and wait for it to dry
Make your hair into a braid or two and then let it dry.
Step 7. Unwrap the braid and squeeze the hair
Make sure your hair is completely dry. Then, untie the braid and rock the hair. You can also squeeze your hair back to add texture.
Method 3 of 5: Using Curlers
Step 1. Apply the product to the hair
Start with dry hair. First, brush your hair with a small amount of product, such as mousse and texturizer. These products will add volume and help to withstand the effects of waves for longer lasting.
- Use less product if you have short hair. Too many products used will actually worsen the results obtained.
- Use a mousse that can withstand the effects of waves throughout the day.
Step 2. Use medium-sized curling irons
In addition to the heat that can reach every strand of hair, this measure also helps you create slightly denser curls. On the other hand, if you use large curlers, the curls you get will not be as good as those with medium curlers.
Step 3. Pin the outside of the hair
Grab the hair at the top of your head and pin it up so you can start the curling process from the inside.
Step 4. Curl your hair a little at a time
Take a small section of your hair and wrap it around the curling iron. After a few seconds, untie the hair.
Step 5. Continue on the rest of the hair
Curl your hair that was previously pinned and start the curling process again in that section.
Step 6. Flip the hair up and down, and toss it around
To keep your hair from looking like a corkscrew, flip it over and give it a slight shake.
Don't brush your hair with your fingers unless you really want softer waves
Step 7. Apply the right amount of hairspray
Too much hairspray can make your hair look stiff.
Method 4 of 5: Using a Diffuser or Funnel on a Hair Dryer
Step 1. Wash your hair and dry it
Wash your hair with your usual routine. Give conditioner then rinse. Use a towel to dry your hair.
Step 2. Use mousse
Apart from adding texture and volume to your hair, the mousse will also resist the wave effect to make it last longer.
Remove the mousse foam about 1/4 of the palm of your hand. Then, gently apply it all over your hair. If you have very long hair, increase the amount of lather if needed. On the other hand, if you have short hair, start with less lather
Step 3. Use a diffuser on a hairdryer
A diffuser is an enhancement that can be attached to a hair dryer. It is round in shape with scattered teeth. The diffuser will reduce the speed of the wind coming out of the hairdryer so your hair won't curl into a mess. In addition, the diffuser will also help create waves and curls in the hair.,
- Use medium heat on a hairdryer. This temperature will help you get a more regular wave result.
- Tilt your head up, down, or sideways. Then, place several sections of hair in the diffuser and move the diffuser to your scalp. Let hair 80%-90% dry.
- Continue the drying process on the rest of the hair.
Step 4. Use the funnel on the hairdryer
In addition to a diffuser, you can also use a funnel. You can attach this funnel to the end of the hairdryer.
Turn on a hairdryer with a funnel on medium heat and place a section of hair on top of it
Step 5. Squeeze your hair
Once your hair is dry, turn off the blow dryer and squeeze your hair to add waves to your hair.
Step 6. Give hairspray
To make the waves last longer, spray hairspray all over your hair. Do this with a distance of a few centimeters from the hair.
Method 5 of 5: Using Pins
Step 1. Prepare the hair
Wash your hair with your usual routine. Give conditioner then rinse. Use a towel to dry your hair.
Step 2. Use products for hair
Apply mousse, styling cream, or texturizer evenly to all strands of hair. Focus on the middle to the ends.
If you have short hair, don't apply these products to the roots or your hair will look stringy later
Step 3. Divide the hair into 10-15 sections
Make sure each is approximately 2.5-5 cm thick. Preferably, the hair on the top of the head is separated with bobby pins first so that the process can start from the inner hair.
The thicker you part your hair, the wavy your hair will be. If you divide it into sections with less thickness, your hair will end up curlier instead of wavy later
Step 4. Wrap the first section of hair around your fingers
Roll the ends of the hair on the index and thumb to form a loop. Keep rolling until it reaches the scalp.
Step 5. Pin the hair roll
After you've curled your hair, pin it to your head so it doesn't come loose.
Step 6. Do the process of rolling on all sections of hair
Make sure you pin your hair against your head so that the coils don't stick together. Your head will be filled with bobby pins after doing this process.
Step 7. Let hair dry overnight
You can sleep with your hair covered with bobby pins. You don't have to be afraid of pins if you install it horizontally.
Step 8. Remove the pins and rock the hair
When you wake up in the morning, untie the pins and give your hair a shake by flipping it up and down.
Apart from rocking your hair, you can also comb it with your fingers or a comb to make the hair texture less frizzy and wavy
Step 9. Give hairspray
To make the waves last longer, apply hairspray all over the hair.
