There are several ways you can cover chairs to match or hide flaws in your decor. You can buy or make a cover for it. If you want a more permanent solution, grab a nail gun and re-cover the chair with your favorite material.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using the Lining Cover
Step 1. Contact the company that makes the furniture to see if they recommend a particular type of cover for you
If the chair is in an "unusual" shape or has been upholstered over and over again, the standard holster may no longer fit. Search the internet by entering the name of the type of furniture and the term slip cover in online forums as one way you can try.
Step 2. Measure the dimensions of your chair to see if you can find a suitable cover
Be sure to include the seat height, width and height measurements. Then, measure any additional sections, such as the ottoman.
Step 3. Look for quilt covers from decor stores and home supply stores
Target, Walmart, Carefour and Matahari sell a wide variety of these products. You can get upholstery covers with elastic bands that can wrap around the bottom of the furniture.
This is the best way to upholster chairs and sofas
Step 4. Choose a "one size" sarong that fits all types of chairs
It's also available from decor stores and it's designed to securely fasten and cover a chair. Consider purchasing the seat cushion cover separately so you can create a layered look.
- Remove the seat cushion. Attach this cover to each seat cushion separately.
- Put this upholstery on the chair, then start tucking it into each corner of the chair. Tie where needed.
- Insert a large roll of paper towels into the crevices of the chair. This will keep the sheath well tucked inside.
- Purchase a twist pin to make a crease in the scabbard and hold it in place.
- Replace the cushion cover on top of the one on top of your new upholstery
Step 5. Purchase a dining chair cover from a wedding supply store or home decor store
It is specially designed for standard chairs in the dining room with straps on the back. Perfect for everyday use or for home preparation for special occasions.
A good set of upholstery for dining chairs can cost between IDR 390,000 and IDR 2,600,000
Step 6. Use a patterned sheet of fabric if you need to quickly cover the chair
You can wrap it around the underside of the chair and use a twist pin or with a nail gun.
Method 2 of 2: Replacing the upholstery of a Chair
Step 1. Take a photo of the chair you will be working on
You need to remember how the seat initially looks from all angles.
Step 2. Begin peeling off your seat upholstery by loosening the "staples" with the appropriate pliers
When you've removed all of the upholstery fabric, lay it face down and mark where it started with a piece of tape and a marker.
Also consider making a sequential list of the steps you take when opening your upholstery piece
Step 3. Repeat until all parts of the seat are removed
You may need to remove and label each button and piece of foam or filling.
Step 4. Purchase 5.5 m - 6.5 m of upholstery fabric that you will use to cover your chair
Spread the upholstery on the floor or workspace face down. Make sure your workspace is clean before doing this.
Also find suitable reinforcement or make your own if your chair requires it
Step 5. Place the old upholstery piece on top of the new upholstery
Draw a pattern around this old upholstery fabric with a fabric pencil/pen. This old piece will serve as a pattern guide for the new upholstery fabric.
Step 6. Cut according to the pattern with a pair of sharp fabric scissors
Sew back any studs or reinforcement as needed. Also take this opportunity to paint or refinish the wooden parts of this chair.
Step 7. Reassemble your chair in reverse order
Use tack strips on fabrics that need to be stretched and use tacks for smaller, hard-to-reach places.
Step 8. Use staples for the majority of the upholstery on the underside of the chair
You can cover the area with a spare piece of cloth cut to an appropriate size.
Step 9. Wrap upholstery fabric around the filling and foam for the cushions
Secure with staples and tack strips. Consider changing the foam if it is no longer soft.
Step 10. Insert reinforcement around the edges if your chair requires it
Sew this reinforcement into place with a needle and thread.
Step 11. Use a piece of cloth to cover the underside of the chair and hide the staples and tack strips
Sew in a whipstitch style around the fabric to attach it a little loosely. This fabric could be a different color, as it won't be easy to see.
