Serum helps prevent frizz, and makes it shinier, more flexible and stronger. Usually, the serum is used by people who have dry, wavy or curly hair (both long and medium hair). However, the best way to find out if the serum you are using is right for you to try it. There are several recommended ways to use hair serum. You can use it before shampooing, after shampooing, or after styling. However, serums are usually (and often are) used after styling to add shine to hair.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Getting the Right Product
Step 1. Consider the options available before buying a serum product
Check the label of each product and compare existing products to determine which product best suits your needs. There are several types of hair serum that you can use, depending on your hair type and preferences. If you have thin hair, try using a serum that thickens your hair. If you have fine hair, there are some light serums for people with hair that doesn't need a lot of moisture. If you style your hair often, try using a serum that can protect your hair from damage, especially those caused by heat. There are also several products specifically designed to treat and maintain hair shape (for curly or wavy hair), and add shine to hair. On the other hand, some products are designed to create a more natural looking hairstyle.
You can get a selection of serum products at supermarkets or pharmacies
Step 2. Apply a small amount of serum to your hair before you wash your hair
Please note that this step is optional. Some people find that applying serum to the ends of their hair before shampooing helps prevent frizz and dryness caused by the chemicals in shampoo. To protect your hair when you wash your hair, apply more serum to your hair than usual. If the serum is in a pump bottle, take out 3-4 times the pressure and apply it to the middle of your hair, especially the ends.
Wash and rinse your hair as usual. Make sure that no shampoo residue is stuck to your hair
Step 3. Wash and use conditioner before you style your hair
In another method of using a serum, you will need to apply the serum when your hair is very wet. When bathing, it's a good idea to use a shampoo that can moisturize, as well as a special conditioner for dry hair. If you have wavy or curly hair, consider buying an anti-frizz shampoo and dandruff product, or a shampoo and dandruff product specifically for curly or wavy hair.
- If you have wavy or curly hair, try to schedule a shampoo-free shampoo. There are some shampoo products without cleaning chemicals that can actually erode the scalp and cause special hair. These products can be an option if you want to get a more natural wavy hair shape.
- If you only want to use the serum after styling, skip this step.
Method 2 of 3: Using the Right Amount of Serum
Step 1. Carefully pour a few drops of serum on still wet hair
Don't towel dry your hair before you apply the serum. Some hair health experts say that it would be better if the serum is applied directly to hair that is still wet. For hair of medium length, use 1-2 drops of serum. Drop the serum into your palms, then wipe your palms together. After that, apply the serum on the middle and ends of the hair evenly.
Be careful not to use too much serum so that the hair is not too thick and greasy
Step 2. Style your hair as usual
Try using a hair protection spray before you style your hair with a heat generator. As much as possible you should keep your hair strong and naturally shiny so you don't have to use a lot of serum.
Step 3. Pour a small amount of serum into the palm of the hand
After you've styled your hair, pour a drop of serum into your hands. You can add more serum later if it is still not enough. If you don't want to pour it into your palms, dispense a small amount of the serum onto your fingertips (one or two presses).
Step 4. Apply serum to palms
Rub the serum into the palm of the hand evenly so that later, the serum can be applied to the hair evenly as well. In this way, the serum used will not only hit one part of the hair.
Method 3 of 3: Applying Serum
Step 1. Apply the serum on the back of the hair first
Don't start applying serum to the front or top hair and, in the end, ruin your hairdo because you used too much serum. Instead, gently apply the serum to the middle and ends of your hair with your hands. Start from the back of the hair, to the front of the hair. This way, if you use too much serum, there won't be any obvious "marks" on your hair.
Step 2. Add serum if necessary
If you are very careful not to use too much serum, you may need to apply more serum to your hair. If your hair still seems dry, add a drop of serum to your hands and rub your palms together first. After that, apply the serum on the hair on the edges and front. The serum used can prevent frizz and make it more flexible and shiny.
Step 3. Curl a small section of your hair
After applying the serum to your hair and getting the shine you want, the last thing your hair needs might be a little extra volume. If your hair looks straight and flat, you may need to style or curl your hair to give it a fresher, voluminous look.
Step 4. Pay attention to the effect of the serum used
If your hair becomes oily and too thick a few hours or days after applying the serum, try another serum. You may be using a serum product that is not suitable for your hair type. In fact, it's not uncommon for you to have to try hair care products and fail (eg the product doesn't work) before you find the right one.
