Step
Method 1 of 3: Melt Candy in the Microwave
Step 1. Place 4 Jolly Rancher candies in a heatproof bowl or plate
In addition to using a bowl, you can also melt candy in a coffee cup to make it easier to pour later into the mold.
- If you want to melt more than 4 candies at the same time, please increase the duration.
- 4 pieces of candy will make about 1 tbsp. melted candy.
- Make sure the container you're using has a handle, as the candy can be very hot once it's melted.
- If possible, use a glass-walled Pyrex measuring cup. However, if you want to use it to gradually melt candy, be sure to let the measuring cup sit for a while to cool down before reheating in the microwave.
Step 2. Melt the Jolly Rancher candy in the microwave on 80% power for about 1 minute
Since the power of each microwave is different, please adjust the temperature and duration to suit your microwave model. You should be able to melt 4 candies at once with this method.
If the candy has not completely melted after 1 minute, please reheat it at 15 second intervals. Then, to melt the candy in the later stages, use the combination of time it took to melt the candy in the first stage
Step 3. Remove the candy from the microwave very carefully
Once melted, candy is actually very hot so you have to be really careful when removing it from the microwave. Ideally, you should use heat-resistant gloves or a kitchen rag to hold the candy canes, which may also be hot.
Once removed from the microwave, immediately print or process the candy before the texture hardens again. If the candy hardens again before use, please reheat it at 15 second intervals to make the texture melt again
Method 2 of 3: Melting Candy in the Oven
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 177 degrees Celsius
Some recipes will recommend different temperatures which you can of course follow, but be aware that 177 degrees Celsius will make the candy melt in relatively less time.
Step 2. While waiting for the oven to heat up, place the candy that has been removed from the wrapper in a heatproof pan
It's best to melt a little more candy than the recipe calls for. That way, you have extra candy to use if you need to. Also make sure the pan is not overfilled so that the melted candy doesn't overflow after heating.
- Arrange the required amount of candy in neat layers to ensure that they melt evenly.
- Ideally, the height of the candy will be reduced by half once it's melted, although the exact result will depend on how the candy is arranged in the pan.
Step 3. Melt the candy in the oven for 10-12 minutes
Don't stir the candy while it's melting! The less nuisance the candy has when it is warmed, the less air bubbles will form on the surface. Remember, the presence of air bubbles can crack a not-so-thick layer of candy!
Step 4. Remove the melted candy from the oven
As the 10 minutes pass, observe the candy's condition, especially since you'll need to remove it from the oven before it's fully melted. If you heat it too long, the candy will start to boil and bubble. Make sure you also wear heat-resistant gloves when removing the candy from the oven!
- Use melted candy immediately after heating. If you still have other activities to do before molding the candy, it's a good idea to let the melted candy sit in the oven so that it stays warm and doesn't harden.
- If the candy hardens before molding, try reheating it in the oven for 2-3 minutes.
Method 3 of 3: Using the Jolly Rancher Melt
Step 1. Use the mold to shape the candy
For example, decorative molds can be used to mold Jolly Rancher candy into your desired shape. After molding, let the candy sit for 10-15 minutes at room temperature until it cools down and the texture hardens.
Make sure the mold used is able to tolerate hot temperatures. So that the mold does not melt when exposed to very hot melted candy, you should avoid candy or chocolate molds made of plastic
Step 2. Coat the apples with melted Jolly Rancher candy
Dip each apple in the melted candy, then remove the apple to drain any excess liquid on the surface. Once the apples are no longer dripping, feel free to place them on a nonstick baking sheet or serving plate until they cool down. After 10-15 minutes, the sweet and delicious apple candy is ready to eat!
- If the surface of the melted candy is too shallow to cover the entire surface of the apple, try transferring it to a thinner, deeper bowl or pan. If you want, you can also pour the melted candy all over the surface of the apple though of course, this method is prone to dirtying your kitchen counter or floor.
- Insert a stick or skewer that is firm enough into the apple. This will make it easier for the apple to dip into the candy, and it will be easier and safer to eat.
- Generally, you need about 12 pieces of candy to coat one apple.
Step 3. Make lollipops using lollipop molds and sticks
In fact, you can easily get lollipop molds at various grocery stores or candy stores. To make a lollipop, all you need to do is pour the melted candy into a mold that comes with a special stick!
- Use one of the methods listed above to melt the candy, then pour the melted candy into the mold that comes with the popsicle stick.
- After letting it sit for a while, the candy will harden around the stick and look like a lollipop.
Step 4. Mix the melted candy into your favorite drinks
In fact, melted candy is very easy to dissolve in various liquids, such as alcohol. Therefore, please try mixing 12 melted candies with 250 ml of your favorite drink to sweeten the taste.
- Mix melted candy into a cup of hot tea. After the temperature cools down, voila, a glass of fruity tea is ready for you to enjoy!
- Since melted candy is more difficult to dissolve in cold drinks, try warming or heating the drink that will be mixed with the melted candy later, especially if you have limited time.
Tips
If you find air bubbles forming on the surface of the candy, use the back of a metal spoon or toothpick to pop them
Warning
- Continue to monitor which oven or microwave is being used.
- Make sure the mold used is made of heat-resistant material! Of course you don't want to see those molds melt when exposed to very hot candy temperatures, do you?
