Like any other beauty tool, a hairbrush will get dirty over time. If your brush looks a little dirty, it might be time to do some cleaning. Combs and hairbrushes can usually be cleaned with a mild cleaning solution and a toothbrush. If the brush or comb has not been cleaned in a long time, it is recommended that you disinfect the comb or brush with alcohol or vinegar. You'll have a clean and tidy comb and brush when you're done.

Method 1 of 3: Performing Basic Cleaning
Step 1. Remove the hair from the brush using your fingers
Remove as much hair as you can in the comb or brush with your fingers. You should be able to throw it away easily. So, try to get rid of all the hair. If any hair is tangled and left behind, use a toothpick to untangle it, then pick it up with your fingers.
Step 2. Mix a mild cleanser with warm water
You don't need to use strong cleaners on brushes and combs. Mild cleaners, such as shampoo or dish soap are good ingredients. Add one drop of cleaning agent to a small bowl of warm water. There's no exact amount for the mixture, but you usually don't need to use too much cleaner to clean a comb or brush.
Step 3. Scrub the brush or comb using a toothbrush
Prepare an unused toothbrush and a cleanser you like. Then, gently scrub the comb or brush with the bristles of the toothbrush. Scrub the sides of the brush as well because that part is always in contact with the hair so a lot of dirt builds up there over time.

After you scrub the brush or hair comb, rinse with water to remove the cleaner. Rinse the brush using warm running water until the water is clear.
After cleaning, let the comb or brush dry on its own. If you're in a hurry, you can also dry it with a paper towel or cloth

Step 1. Soak a plastic comb in alcohol or vinegar
You can safely clean a plastic comb with rubbing alcohol or apple cider vinegar. Pour the alcohol or vinegar into a cup or bowl that can accommodate a comb. Soak the comb for about 10 minutes. Next, take the comb or brush and rinse under running water.
Step 2. Soak the brush head in vinegar to wash off bacteria
To carry out disinfection, you only need to soak the brush head. Mix one part vinegar with one part water in a bowl large enough to cover the brush head. Next, soak the brush head in the mixture for 20 minutes. When you have finished soaking, rinse the hairbrush under running water.
Step 3. Let the comb or hair brush dry
Place a comb or brush on a towel and let it dry on its own. The time it takes will vary depending on the type of comb or brush you have. Some combs take several hours, while others can take up to a night to dry.
Step 4. Clean the handle of the comb or brush
The handles of combs and brushes are also at risk of being exposed to many germs. You should also clean it during the disinfection process. This cleaning depends on the material of the comb or hair brush, but you can wipe the surface of the comb with rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt. After that, you can rub the handle of the comb with a damp cloth.
Do not use harsh cleaners (eg alcohol) on wooden brushes

Step 1. Gently clean the brush bristles
When cleaning the bristles, do it slowly with gentle movements. If you are too aggressive when cleaning, the bristles may bend or break during the cleaning process.
Step 2. Avoid soaking brushes that have pads for too long
Brushes that have a pad under the handle should not be wet for a long time. Do not soak this type of brush if you want to remove bacteria. Just scrub the brush gently with water and a mild cleanser.
Step 3. Avoid soaking the wooden brush
Do not immerse brushes with handles or wooden frames. Wood is very susceptible to damage when exposed to water, and easily damaged when soaked. Clean this type of brush using a toothbrush and cleanser.
