This WikiHow article teaches you how to find north when using Google Maps on Android.
Step

Step 1. Open Google Maps on Android
Look for a small icon that says "Maps" in the phone's main menu or in the application list.

Step 2. Tap the location button
This button can be found at the bottom right of the map. The shape is like a plain black circle surrounded by a larger circle with a crosshairs accent.

Step 3. Tap the compass button
The buttons are red and white with a double arrow icon near the top right corner of the screen.

Step 4. Look for the letter "U" or "N" on the compass
When the letter "U" or "N" appears on the compass, the red hand will automatically point north.
