This wikiHow teaches you how to build a relationship between two Sims in The Sims 4. You can do this naturally by finding the Sim you want and letting your Sim pursue the social interactions they need. If it seems too much of a hassle, there is a cheat that can be used to get the Sim to start a relationship.

Method 1 of 2: Using Social Interaction
Step 1. Understand the limitations
When trying to build a relationship between two Sims, they must not have a biological relationship, or have opposite traits to each other.
- Two Sims who are opposites of each other can still date, but it will be very difficult to do.
- Sim's gender doesn't affect his dating choices.
Step 2. Send the Sim to a social place
If you want your Sim to meet other Sims naturally, send them to clubs, bars, parks, or other social places.
You can also send your Sims to the streets if there are lots of other Sims out there
Step 3. Make Sims introduce themselves to other Sims
Select the Sim you want to pair with your Sim to start a conversation.
Step 4. Look for the positive sign
You'll see a green "+" sign appear above the heads of both Sims as they chat; if this sign appears a lot, it means that both Sims are compatible with each other.
- Sometimes you also see some red "-" signs. As long as there are more green positives than red negatives, both Sims can date each other.
- If you see more red negatives, we recommend looking for another Sim that is more compatible with your Sim.
Step 5. Build a friendship between the two Sims
The easiest and least risky way to do this is to select the conversation option Friendly (friendly), and choose dialogues like Ask About Day (ask daily) or Complimentary Outfit (praise the dress).
- The friendship meter ("Friendship") must be at least 50% full; if not, your romance will run aground.
- Stay away from the flirt dialogue option (pink) when building friendships.
Step 6. Start flirting
Once both Sims are good friends (the "Friendship" meter is 50% full or more), you can start flirting with other Sims by selecting the conversation option Romance (romance), then choose Flirt (seduce).
Step 7. Wait for the reaction from other Sims
If the other Sim accepts the flirt, you'll see a pink bar appear under the green "Friendship" bar under the Sim's name and the other Sim's name.
If the pink bar doesn't appear, try increasing the " Friendship " meter before trying again
Step 8. Build up the " Romance " bar to at least 30%
The way to build a romance is similar to building a friendship: choose the conversation option Romance, then choose a light option like Flirt or Compliment Appearance.
- Avoid physical action until the " Romance " bar increases several times. Ideally, it's best not to use the physical option until the pink bar is 30% full.
- If other Sims react negatively to something your Sim did, select the option Apologize (apologies) before continuing, then back to flattery and light compliments.
Step 9. Ask Sim on a date
After the " Romance " bar is 30% full, select the menu option Romance, then select Ask to Be Boyfriend or Ask to Be Girlfriend on the menu. If the reaction is positive, the two Sims will be dating.
If the other Sim's reaction is negative, flirt again until the " Romance " bar is 50% filled, then try again
Step 10. Continue to build relationships
After your Sim and others are dating, you can continue to use options Romance such as holding hands, kissing, and so on to increase the "Romance" bar.
When the " Romance " bar is 50% full, you can propose to another Sim for marriage. If the bar fills up enough, you can even have options Elope (eloping).
Method 2 of 2: Using Cheats
Step 1. Find the Sim you want to date
Before you can use the cheat to match the two Sims, choose the Sim that your Sim wants to date.
Step 2. Write down the name of the other Sim
You will need your first and last name before you can proceed.
Step 3. Activate the Cheats console
Press Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C (Windows) or Command+⇧ Shift+C (Mac) to bring up the text box.
Step 4. Enter the “Enable Cheats” command
Type testingcheats enabled and press Enter. Thus, the cheat will fire for your current Sims 4 game.
Step 5. Enter the "Modify Relationship" command
You need this command to increase the " Friendship " and " Romance " bars to 75% so that you can activate the romance options without breaking the game. The "Modify Relationship" command can be entered as follows:
- Type modifyrelationship and press space.
- Type in your Sim's first name and press space, then enter his last name and press space.
- Type in the first and last name of the Sim you want to date, and make sure you press the space bar after the last name.
- Type 75 and press space.
- Type Friendship_Main and press Enter.
- Repeat this command and replace " Friendship_Main " with " Romance_Main ".
Step 6. Start a conversation with another Sim
Go to the Sim you want to date and start talking to him. At the end, you will see the dialog options appear.
Step 7. Ask Sim on a date
Since both Sims already have high " Friendship " and " Romance " meters, you can choose dialogue Romance, then select Ask to Be Boyfriend or Ask to Be Girlfriend. Thus, the two Sims are now dating.
Tips
- If you feel like breaking up, choose mean (behave evil), then Break Up (separated). This move will make both of them hate each other. You can also choose Friendly and wear Ask to Just Be Friends to reset the " Romance " bar.
- Try to stay away from Sims who are "Unflirty" (hard to seduce). Romance options are very limited and this Sim usually resists your Sim's advances.
