Minecraft Pocket Edition was previously a version of Minecraft designed for phones and tablets. Now, the standard version of Minecraft (commonly referred to as Minecraft: Bedrock Edition) can be used on mobile phones and game consoles. This version is the same as the Windows 10 Edition version of Minecraft. Most games and apps issue updates to fix bugs and security issues. Minecraft releases new features to the game regularly. Method 1 of 5: On Android Devices
Step 1. Open Google Play Store
On devices running the Android operating system, look for the sideways colorful triangle icon (play button). Touch the icon to open the Google Play Store.
Step 2. Touch the menu icon
It's an icon with three horizontal lines in the upper-left corner of the screen. The menu will be displayed afterwards.
Step 3. Touch My apps & games
It's at the top of the menu. This option displays a list of all the apps and games stored in your library.
Step 4. Touch the Updates tab
This tab is the first option at the top of the page. A list of apps that need updating will be displayed afterwards.
Step 5. Tap Update next to Minecraft
It's a green button on the left side of Minecraft. The latest version of Minecraft will be installed to the device.
If you don't see Minecraft in the " Updates " tab, you haven't installed the game or your device is running the latest version of Minecraft
Method 2 of 5: On iPhone and iPad
Step 1. Open the App Store
This app is marked by a blue icon with a white capital “A”. Touch this icon on the device's home screen to open the App Store.
Step 2. Touch the profile photo
The photo appears in the upper-right corner of the App Store window. The account menu will be displayed. In addition, a list of applications that need updating will be loaded.
Step 3. Scroll down and tap Update next to Minecraft
The game Minecraft is marked by the icon of a patch of grass. Touch the blue button labeled “ Updates ” next to Minecraft to update the game on the App Store.

- If you don't see an " Update " button next to Minecraft in the App Store, you don't have Minecraft installed or your device already has the latest version of Minecraft.
Method 3 of 5: On Nintendo Switch
Step 1. Visit Minecraft on the console home screen
Use the directional pad or left stick to select Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch home screen.
Step 2. Press the + button
The plus sign (“+”) button is on the right joy-con. The “Options” menu will be displayed afterwards.
Step 3. Select Software Updates
This option is in the “Options” menu. Use the directional buttons or the left stick to select "Software Updates" in the menu. After that, press the “A” button to select it.
Step 4. Select Via the internet
With this option, you can update Minecraft using a wireless internet connection.
Method 4 of 5: Updating Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition
Step 1. Click the Windows “Start” menu
This menu is on the taskbar, in the lower-left corner of the bar. Click the Windows “Start” menu button to display the menu.
Step 2. Click the Microsoft Store icon
This icon looks like a white shopping bag with the Windows logo. The Microsoft Store will open and you can use this app to download and update apps.
Step 3. Click the “Downloads and Updates” icon
This icon looks like an arrow pointing down above the line. You can find it in the upper-right corner of the Microsoft Store window. A list of all Windows applications that need updating will be displayed.
Step 4. Click the download icon next to Minecraft
The latest update for Minecraft will be downloaded and installed.
- Alternatively, you can click the blue button labeled “ Get Updates ” to download all available updates.
- If Minecraft doesn't appear in the downloads and updates list, the game may not be installed on your computer or you already have the latest version of Minecraft.
- If you have Minecraft: Java Edition instead of Windows 10 Edition, you will need to update Minecraft through the Minecraft launcher program.
Method 5 of 5: On Amazon Fire Tablet
Step 1. Touch the Games & Apps tab
This tab is one of the tabs at the top of the screen. You can swipe the tab list left and right to scroll through the various tabs.
Step 2. Touch the “Store” icon
This icon looks like a shopping cart in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Touch the menu icon
This icon looks like a nine square in the top right corner of the screen.
Step 4. Touch the Updates tab
This tab is the third tab at the top of the screen. All apps that need to be updated will be displayed after that.
Step 5. Touch the download icon next to Minecraft
This icon looks like an arrow pointing down above the brackets. You can see it on the right side of Minecraft in the list of updates.
If you don't see Minecraft in the update list, the game may not be installed on your device or you already have the latest version of Minecraft
Tips
- It's a good idea to update the app when you have a WiFi connection and the device is connected to a power source.
- Make sure there is enough storage space on the device before you start a new download or update.
