Sometimes when you're really lost, it's better to choose to die and come back to life at home. Make sure you know how to get your stuff back before doing so. Then, if you want a perfect death, you have a choice from the mediocre to the cool.

Step

Method 1 of 3: Die without Losing Items

Step 1. Choose your death

In Minecraft, dying is easy. Read about how to die in the section below. However, if you don't want to lose all your belongings, read this first section first.

Step 2. Store your belongings in chests

Make a chest out of eight wooden planks. Place the chest on the ground and move all valuables from your inventory into the chest.

  • In single-player mode, place your chest somewhere clearly visible, such as on top of a hill.
  • In multiplayer mode, hide your chest underground so that other players can't find it. Mark the topsoil with a torch so you know where to dig.
  • If you have OP rights (Cheats), you can also use the /gamerule keepInventory true command to protect your belongings.

Step 3. Check your coordinates

These coordinates will tell you where you are in the world accurately. Check the coordinates while standing next to your chest:

  • In Minecraft for Windows or Mac, press F3. (If that doesn't work, press Fn+F3.)
  • In the Xbox or Playstation version of Minecraft, create a map, complete it and use it.
  • Unfortunately, there is no way to find coordinates in Minecraft Pocket Edition. Try to make a compass and follow the compass directions all the way to where you come back to life.

Step 4. Record your coordinates

Write down the numbers X, Y, and Z that appear as text at the top of the screen, or on a map. Use real paper, not just chat boxes.

Step 5. Kill yourself

Kill yourself any way you like. Many ways are listed in the next section below.

Step 6. Check your coordinates

When you come back to life, you will return to where you last slept, or at your initial spawn point. Use the method described above to display your coordinates. Take note of these coordinates too, so you don't get lost again.

Step 7. Use the coordinates to find your item chest

With the coordinates exposed, walk over and watch the X, Y, and Z numbers change. Look for directions that will bring these numbers closer to the coordinates you noted earlier. When you reach the coordinates in question, look for your chest. Grab your belongings and walk back to your spawn point using the same method.

  • X and Y are the North/South and East/West coordinates. Get this right first.
  • The Z number shows how far you are above or below sea level. Usually you can ignore this number unless you die underground or on a steep mountain slope.

Step 8. If using command, you can type the command "/gamerule keepInventory true" into the chat

This will keep your belongings with you, even after you die.

Method 2 of 3: Die in Survival or Adventure mode

Step 1. Drop yourself from a height

Jump off a high cliff and you will be seriously injured. You may have to repeat it a few times if you only find a few small hills.

If you have enough dirt or other useless blocks, you can build towers to jump off of. Look at the ground beneath your feet and jump repeatedly, clicking to place blocks as you do so

Step 2. Make yourself out of breath under the sand or gravel

Dig a hole three blocks deep. Jump inside and place two blocks of sand or gravel over your head. Blocks of sand or gravel will fall on you and bury your head, causing you to hurt yourself and eventually die.

Step 3. Immerse yourself

Any water two blocks deep can drown you. Dive in and wait until all your air bubbles are gone. The location is near your life.

If you wish to die an honorable death using water at any time, bring a bucket of water with you. Dig a hole two blocks deep, pour water from the bucket to fill the hole and then jump into your personal death sauna

Step 4. Die using the cactus

Crash yourself into the cactus many times to get a death from thousands of thorns. If you play multiplayer mode, the chat will tell everyone that you are "stabbed to death".

Step 5. Dig to find the lava

Lahars are usually found deep below the ground surface. Explore caves or dig straight down and hope for the torments of fire.

Step 6. Burn yourself in Survival mode

If you get lost in the wild, you can get your revenge on the wild by starting a forest fire. Keep in mind that this "does not" work in Adventure mode. Here's a step-by-step guide to your cremation fire.:

  • Break the pebbles with the shovel until you get a flint.
  • Mine iron with a stone pickaxe. Iron can be found underground, but you'll find more iron by digging deeper.
  • Make a furnace and use it to melt iron ore into iron ingots.
  • Process iron and flint at the same time to make flint and steel.
  • Use flint and steel to light a fire over any solid block, or next to a flammable block like wood. Step into the fire to kill yourself.

Step 7. Look for monsters

Enemy monsters breed at night or deep underground. Run towards the first monster you see and it will happily kill you.

  • If you are playing single player mode, use the menu setting to increase the difficulty to hard.
  • The black tentacled "Endermen" won't attack you until you stare straight into its head.

Step 8. Brag yourself with a cool death

Try the following if you want a cool death:

  • Make a monster trap and stand at the bottom.
  • Build a cannon with controls placed in the fire trajectory.
  • Make TNT from 5 gunpowder and 4 sand, then blast using fire. Get gunpowder by killing creepers, ghsats, or witches.

Method 3 of 3: Off in Creative Mode

Step 1. Dig a tunnel under the world in Minecraft for PC

Dig straight down until you find bedrock. Jump down the tunnel and let yourself float then stay in the void outside the world until you die. You can't destroy bedrock in Minecraft for consoles or mobile devices. So, this is only possible if you are playing on a computer.

Step 2. Use the kill command in Minecraft for PC

This is not possible for Pocket Edition or Console edition. Follow these instructions:

  • Open a chat window using T or /.
  • Type kill and press "enter".
  • If nothing happens, you should activate the cheat for a while and try again. In single player mode, press Esc to open the menu, then select Open to LAN → Allow Cheats → Start LAN World.

Step 3. Go to void in another version

If you're playing Minecraft on your phone, tablet or game console, there's only one way to kill yourself. Here's how:

  • Select “End Portal Frames” in the “Decoration Blocks” section. Place the frames in a 4x4 square, with no corners.
  • Create an End Portal by placing an “Eye of Ender” in each of the twelve portal frames. You can find this in the “Miscellaneous” section.
  • Wait for a black portal to appear in the square, then enter it.
  • When you reach the other end, walk to the edge of the land and immerse yourself. Once you reach a depth of 65 blocks below sea level, you will start to get hurt, then die.

Tips

  • Make a note of the coordinates of your home after it comes back to life so you don't get lost again.
  • You can also use the Keep Inventory cheat. This can help you secure things so you don't have to always return to the point of your death.
  • Since there's lava deep in the ground, dig straight down in Survival mode and you should be able to find lava. Jump into it to die.
  • Eating something poisonous, such as a poisoned potato or a poison potion, will degrade your health enough to be fatal.
