This wikiHow teaches you how to change your Twitter username, or the name that appears after the "@" sign. This process is different from the process of changing the Twitter profile name.

Method 1 of 3: For iPhone
Step 1. Open Twitter
This app is marked by a blue and white bird icon. If you are already logged into Twitter, you will be taken directly to the main page.
If you are not logged into Twitter, tap the “ Log in ”, enter your current username (or email address) and account password, then touch “ Log in ”.
Step 2. Touch the Me button
This button is indicated by a human icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Touch the ️ button
It's at the top of the screen, right next to your profile photo.
Step 4. Tap on Settings and privacy option
It's at the top of the pop-up menu.
Step 5. Touch the Account option
It's at the top of the screen.
Step 6. Touch the Username option
It's at the top of the screen.
Step 7. Touch the “New” field
This field is below the current Twitter username.
Step 8. Type in the new username
As you type, Twitter will check and make sure the new username is not already in use by another user.
If the desired username is already in use, you will need to type a different username
Step 9. Touch Done
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. As long as the selected username is marked with a green check mark on its right side, you can tap the “ Done ” and save the new username.
Step 10. Touch the Done button again
After that, you will exit the settings menu and return to the Twitter page. Now, you can see the new username under your display/profile name.
Method 2 of 3: For Android
Step 1. Open Twitter
This app is marked by a blue and white bird icon. If you are already logged into Twitter, you will be taken directly to the main page.
If you are not logged into Twitter, tap the “ Log in ”, enter your current username (or email address) and account password, then touch “ Log in ”.
Step 2. Touch your profile photo
The account profile photo will appear in the upper left corner of the screen. If you haven't set a profile photo, it will be replaced with an egg image on a colored background.
Step 3. Tap on Settings and privacy option
It's at the bottom of the pop-out menu.
Step 4. Touch Accounts
It's at the top of the page.
Step 5. Touch Username
It's at the top of the page.
Step 6. Touch the currently used username and delete it
It's at the top of the " Username " page.
Step 7. Type in the new username
When you're done, you'll see a green check mark next to the username if the name isn't already in use by another user.
If the name is already in use by another user, the username will be shown in red
Step 8. Touch the Done button
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen. Your Twitter username has now been changed, and the changes can be seen on any page that displays your username.
Method 3 of 3: For Desktop
Step 1. Visit the Twitter website
If you are already logged into your account, you will be taken to the main Twitter page.
If you are not logged into your account, click the “ Log in ” in the upper-right corner of the window, enter your username (or email address) and password, then click “ Log in ”.
Step 2. Click on your profile photo
The profile picture of the account appears in the upper right corner of the Twitter window, to the left of the “ Tweet ”.
Step 3. Click Settings and privacy
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Enter the new username in the "Username" field
This column is at the top of the " Accounts " page. When typing, Twitter will check the username to make sure it has not been taken/used by another user.
If the proposed username is not already in use, you can see the message "Available!" above the "Username" column
Step 5. Press Enter key
After that, a pop-up window with password entry will be displayed.
Step 6. Type in the Twitter password
Enter your account password in the pop-up window that appears.
Step 7. Click the Save changes button
It's a blue button at the bottom of the pop-up window. After that, a new username will be applied to your account.
