This wikiHow teaches you how to download and install on your iPhone, Android device, or computer.
Step
Method 1 of 3: On Android Device
Step 1. Open Google Play Store on the device
This app is marked by a white icon with a colorful triangle inside. You can see it on the device page/app drawer.
Step 2. Touch the magnifying glass icon
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Type whatsapp into the search bar and tap Go
The WhatsApp application will be searched on the Play Store. You can see it in the top row of search results on the next page.
Step 4. Tap on “WhatsApp Messenger” option
After that, you will be taken to the WhatsApp application page.
Step 5. Touch INSTALL
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 6. Touch ACCEPT when prompted
It's at the bottom of the pop-up menu. After that, WhatsApp will immediately be downloaded to the device.
Step 7. Wait for WhatsApp to finish downloading, then touch OPEN
It's on the right side of the screen. Once WhatsApp is installed on your device, you can set it up or set it up.
Step 8. Touch AGREE AND CONTINUE
This button is shown at the bottom of the screen.
Step 9. Enter the mobile number
Type a number into the field that appears in the middle of the page.
Step 10. Select OK when prompted
WhatsApp will send a text message with a verification code to the mobile number you entered earlier.
If you don't have a mobile number that can receive text messages, tap “ Call Me After that, you will receive an automatic phone call stating the verification code.
Step 11. Open the phone's messaging app
You will see a new message.
Step 12. Touch the new message
In the main part of the message, you can see the words "Your WhatsApp code is [six-digit code] but you can simply tap on this link to verify your device".
Step 13. Type the six-digit code into WhatsApp
As long as you type in the code correctly, the identity of the phone will be confirmed and you will be directed to the WhatsApp account creation page.
Step 14. Enter a name and upload a profile photo
You're not required to upload a photo, but photos can help contacts or other users to recognize you (especially if you use a different name).
- If you've previously downloaded WhatsApp, you have the option to restore old chat histories.
- You can also choose " Use Facebook Info ” to use your Facebook profile photo and account name.
Step 15. Touch Next
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. WhatsApp is already installed and set up on the device. Now, you can start using it however you want.
Method 2 of 3: On iPhone
Step 1. Open App Store on iPhone
This app is marked by a light blue icon with a white “A” inside. Usually, you can see this icon on your device's home screen.
Step 2. Touch Search
This magnifying glass button is at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3. Touch the “Search” bar
This bar appears at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Type whatsapp into the bar and touch Search
This button is displayed on the lower right side of the screen.
Step 5. Touch GET on the right side of WhatsApp
The WhatsApp icon is blue and has an image of a white speech bubble surrounding the handset.
If you've downloaded WhatsApp before, this button will be replaced by a cloud icon with an arrow pointing downwards. Touch the icon to download WhatsApp.
Step 6. Touch INSTALL when prompted
This button appears in the same place as the “ GET ”.
Step 7. Type in your Apple ID password if prompted
If you just signed in to your Apple ID in the App Store, you don't need to type in your password again.
You can also scan for Touch ID if your device supports it
Step 8. Wait for WhatsApp to finish downloading, then select OPEN
This button is on the right side of WhatsApp. After that, WhatsApp will be opened and you can set it up or set it up.
Step 9. Touch OK or Don't Allow on the pop-up windows that appear
The windows will ask if you want to allow the app to access your contact list, as well as if WhatsApp is allowed to send you notifications.
Step 10. Touch Agree & Continue
This button is shown at the bottom of the screen.
Step 11. Type in the phone number, then tap Done
Enter the number into the field in the center of the screen. Knob Done ” is displayed on the top right side of the screen.
Step 12. Select Yes when prompted
WhatsApp will send a confirmation code to the iPhone's messaging app (Messages).
If the phone number cannot receive text messages, select “ Call Me You will receive an automated phone call stating the verification code.
Step 13. Press the “Home” button and open the Messages app
This app is marked by a green icon with a white speech bubble.
Step 14. Open the text message from WhatsApp
In the main part of the message, you can see the words "Your WhatsApp code is [6-digit number]… ".
Step 15. Type the six-digit code into WhatsApp
As long as you type in the code correctly, WhatsApp will let you customize or edit your profile.
Step 16. Enter a name
Tap the " Your name " field in the center of the screen and type in your name.
- You can also add a profile photo on this page.
- You may be able to touch the option “ Restore ” in the upper right corner of the screen to restore old chat history. However, this option is only applicable/available if you have previously used WhatsApp on the same phone.
Step 17. Touch Done
WhatsApp is already installed and set up on the iPhone. Now, you are ready to use it!
Method 3 of 3: On a Desktop Computer
Step 1. Access the WhatsApp website on the computer
You can visit it at https://www.whatsapp.com/. Through this site, you can download the WhatsApp desktop application.
You must have WhatsApp installed on your phone in order to enter WhatsApp on your desktop computer.
Step 2. Click Mac or Windows PC
This option is at the bottom of the web page.
Step 3. Click the green DOWNLOAD button
This button appears on the right side of the page. Once the button is clicked, the WhatsApp installation file will be downloaded. However, you may need to specify a download location first.
This button may be labeled "Download for Windows 64-Bit" or "Download for Mac OS X", depending on your computer's operating system.
Step 4. Wait for the installation file to finish downloading, then double-click the file
Files are usually stored in the “Downloads” folder or the main directory where the downloads are stored (eg desktop).
Step 5. Wait until WhatsApp is successfully installed to the computer
After that, you can see the WhatsApp icon which looks like a white phone on a green background on the desktop.

Step 6. Double click the WhatsApp icon if the app doesn't open automatically
After that, the WhatsApp login page will appear and contain a black and white chessboard patterned square (this square is a QR code).
Step 7. Open WhatsApp on the phone
If you don't have WhatsApp on your phone yet, you will need to install it on your iPhone or Android before moving on to the next step.
Step 8. Open the code scanner feature on WhatsApp
The steps that need to be followed to access the QR scanner will depend on the phone used:
- iPhone – Touch option “ Settings ” in the lower right corner of the screen, then select “ WhatsApp Web/Desktop ” at the top of the screen.
- Android – Touch button ⋮, then select " WhatsApp Web ” at the top of the menu.
Step 9. Point the phone camera at the QR code
After a while, WhatsApp will scan the code and allow the computer to access/login to the WhatsApp account. Now, you can use WhatsApp on your computer!
- If the QR code has expired, click the arrow icon in the center to update the code.
- If the code is not scanned successfully, make sure all the QR codes enter the phone screen. You may need to move your phone away from the computer screen.
