Method 1 of 2: Using iPhone
Step 1. Open WhatsApp
This app is marked by a phone icon and a white speech bubble on a green background.
If this is your first time opening WhatsApp on your phone, you will need to set up a WhatsApp account first
Step 2. Touch the Chats tab
This tab is at the bottom of the screen.
If WhatsApp immediately displays the chat, just touch the back button in the upper left corner of the screen
Step 3. Touch the square with the pencil icon
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 4. Touch the contact
By default, contact entries are displayed alphabetically by their last name. Therefore, you may need to scroll through the screen before finding the contact you want.
Step 5. Touch the contact name
This name is displayed at the top of the screen.
Step 6. Touch Edit
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 7. Touch the contact name
The first column that is displayed is the first name column, while the second column is the last name column.
Step 8. Type in a new name
If you want to delete all the contact's first and last names, touch the “ x ” at the far right of the first name column.
Step 9. Touch Done
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. After that, the contact name will be updated, both on WhatsApp and iPhone.
Method 2 of 2: Using Android Device
Step 1. Open WhatsApp

Step 2. Touch the Contacts tab
It's on the right side of the Chats tab, at the top of the screen.
If WhatsApp immediately displays the chat, touch the “ ← ” in the upper left corner of the screen first.
Step 3. Touch the photo of the contact you want to edit
After that, a window with contact details will be displayed.
Step 4. Touch
It's in the lower-right corner of the contact box.
Step 5. Touch
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will open afterwards.
Step 6. Touch Edit
It's at the top of the drop-down menu.
Step 7. Touch the name you want to change
The name field is at the top of the screen.
Step 8. Type in a new name
If you want to delete the entire name, tap the “ x ” which is at the far right of the first name column.
Step 9. Touch Done
It's in the top-left corner of the screen. After that, the contact name will be updated on WhatsApp and the device's contacts app.
