This wikiHow teaches you how to change your WhatsApp status to a new one. You can't edit an existing status, but you can delete it and create a new one for your contacts to see.

Method 1 of 2: On iPhone
Step 1. Launch WhatsApp
Tap the WhatsApp icon which looks like a white phone inside a white lined conversation bubble on a green background. If you are logged in, the last section of WhatsApp that was ever opened will be displayed.
If you're not logged into WhatsApp, sign in first by following the on-screen instructions before continuing
Step 2. Tap the Status tab located in the lower left corner

When WhatsApp opens a chat conversation, first tap "Back"
which is in the top left corner.
Step 3. Open the status list
Do this by tapping the heading My Status located at the top of the page.
If you want to add a state, but not delete the old one (or there is no old state to delete), skip to the "Creating a new state" step in this method
Step 4. Tap on the Edit option located at the top right corner
Step 5. Tap your status
Tap the status you want to delete. A check mark will appear to the left of the status.
If you want to delete multiple statuses, tap each of the desired statuses
Step 6. Tap Delete
This option appears in the lower right corner of the screen once the status is selected.
Step 7. Tap Delete 1 Status Update when prompted
It's a red text option at the bottom of the screen. Status selected from the list My Status will be deleted.
If you delete multiple statuses, this option will say the number of statuses selected (for example Delete 3 Status Updates).
Step 8. Create a new state
Tap the camera button to the right of the heading My Status at the top of the page, then take a photo (or select an existing photo) to use as a status.
If you only want to create a text status, tap the pencil icon to the right of the heading My Status, then type the desired status message.
Step 9. Submit the status
Tap the "Send" icon
which is located in the lower right corner.
This status can be seen by all your WhatsApp contacts within 24 hours. After 24 hours have passed, the status will automatically disappear
Method 2 of 2: On Android
Step 1. Launch WhatsApp
Tap the WhatsApp icon which looks like a white phone inside a white lined conversation bubble on a green background. If you are logged in, the last section of WhatsApp that was ever opened will be displayed.
If you're not logged into WhatsApp, sign in first by following the on-screen instructions before continuing
Step 2. Tap STATUS
This tab is at the top of the screen.
When WhatsApp opens a chat conversation, first tap "Back" to open the main WhatsApp interface
Step 3. Tap to the right of the "My Status" heading
A page with a list of your statuses will be displayed.
If you want to add a new state, but not delete the old one (or there are no old states to delete), skip to the "Creating a new state" step in this method
Step 4. Select the desired status
Long press the status you want to delete until a checkmark appears next to it, then release your finger.
If you want to delete multiple statuses, tap on each of the subsequent statuses after you press the first status for a long time
Step 5. Tap on “Delete” icon
It's a trash box-shaped icon at the top of the screen.
Step 6. Tap DELETE when prompted
The selected state will be deleted.
Step 7. Create a new state
Tap the camera button at the bottom right of the screen, then take a photo (or select an existing photo) to use as a status.
