This wikiHow teaches you how to enable message and call notifications from WhatsApp on an Android device. You may need to enable notifications from your device's settings menu, or open WhatsApp and access the app's settings menu.

Method 1 of 2: Enabling Notifications Via Device Settings
Step 1. Open the device settings menu (“Settings”)
On most devices, this menu is indicated by a gear or wrench icon present in the menu/app drawer. On some devices, this menu icon looks like a toolbox.
Step 2. Touch Apps or Application manager on the settings menu or “Settings”
You can see one of the two options in the settings menu. After that, a list of all the apps installed on the device will load. You can change app settings from here.
Step 3. Swipe the screen and touch WhatsApp
Page App Info ” for WhatsApp will load.
Step 4. Touch Notifications
You can see this option at the bottom of the “App Info” page. If you previously disabled WhatsApp notifications, the “Notifications” option may be displayed with the label “ Blocked " or " Off " Touch an option so you can change notification settings.
If you don't see the “Notifications” option on the “App Info” page, look for the checkbox labeled “ Show notifications ” at the top of the screen. Touch and check the box to turn on notifications. You don't need to change any other settings.
Step 5. Slide the Block all switch to the off or “Off” position
App notifications are automatically turned on, but also if you ever change settings and block notifications, you can re-enable notifications by turning off blocking.
This option may be displayed as “ Block " or " Disable ”, depending on the device model and the software running.
Method 2 of 2: Enabling Notifications Through WhatsApp Settings
Step 1. Open WhatsApp Messenger on the device
The WhatsApp icon looks like a green speech bubble with a white telephone receiver inside.
If WhatsApp immediately displays the chat thread, tap the back button in the upper-left corner of the screen. You will be taken to the menu " CHATS ”.
Step 2. Touch the “Menu” button
This button looks like three stacked vertical dots in the upper-right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will load afterwards.
Step 3. Touch Settings
This option is at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Touch Notifications
It's next to the green bell icon in the “Settings” menu.
Step 5. Touch and check the box next to Conversation tones
This option is at the top of the “Notifications” menu. Once activated, the device will play a sound whenever you send or receive a message in a private or group thread.
Chat ringtones will be temporarily muted when you mute your device
Step 6. Enable Message notifications and Group notifications
You need to change the notification settings of private chats and group chats in two different segments in the “Notifications” menu.
- Touch " Notification tone ”, select a ringtone, and touch “ OK " The device will play the selected ringtone every time you receive a message.
- Touch " Vibrate ” and select an option. The device will vibrate to notify you when a message is received.
- Touch " Popup notifications ” and select an option. You will receive a notification in a pop-up box on your device's home screen and/or the notification bar whenever you receive an incoming message.
- Touch " Light ” and choose a light color. Whenever you receive a message, the device LED notification light will flash with the selected color.
Step 7. Enable the Call notifications option
You can change call notifications at the bottom of the “Notifications” menu.
- Touch " Ringtones ”, select a ringtone, and touch “ OK " The device will play the selected ringtone every time someone calls you via WhatsApp.
- Touch " Vibrate ” and select an option. The device will vibrate every time you receive a phone call via WhatsApp.
