This wikiHow teaches you how to chat with your contacts through Gmail's chat (chat) feature on a computer.
Step
Step 1. Open Gmail
Visit https://www.gmail.com/ via your computer's web browser. After that, the Gmail inbox page will be displayed if you are already signed in to your account.
If not, enter your email address and password when prompted
Step 2. Search for the chat name
You'll find your name and email address at the bottom left of the page. This area is a chat segment that allows you to choose the people you want to chat with.
Step 3. Click
It's to the right of the chat name. After that, a pop-up menu will be displayed.
Step 4. Select a contact
Click the contact's name in the pop-out menu, or type in the contact's email address or phone number, then click the appropriate name from the drop-down menu.
If the user's name is not displayed after searching, it may not be saved in the contacts list. You need to add them to contacts before you can chat
Step 5. Enter the invitation message
In the text field at the top of the chat window, type the message you want to use to invite the contact to the chat session (eg "Hi! Please add me to your chat contact.").
Step 6. Click Send Invite
It's a blue button at the bottom of the chat window.
Step 7. Wait for the contact to accept the request/invitation
Once the chat request is accepted, you can proceed to the next step.
Step 8. Start a chat with your friend
After he accepts the request, you can click the “ ＋ ” and click on his name to start the chat. The chat window will appear at the far right of the page.
If the chat window is closed, you can reopen the window by clicking on the corresponding username in the chat section on the left side of the page
Step 9. Have a group chat
Click the icon ＋ ”, enter the contact name, click the appropriate name when it appears, repeat the process for each person you want to add to the group, and click the button
in the top-right corner of the pop-out menu. With this step, you can chat with many people at the same time.
Step 10. Use Gmail to make a voice call
If you want to call a local number (e.g. not an international number) without a cell phone, you can use Gmail's chat feature to make a call:
- Click the phone icon below the chat segment.
- Type in the phone number you want to call.
- Click " Call [phone number] ” in the drop-down menu.
