Chrome is a web browser made by Google that is available for almost all devices, including Android phones or tablets. You can install Chrome via the Google Play Store on your device, but if you need an older version of Chrome, you'll need to download it through a site that stores older versions of apps. If you want to find out about the latest Chrome features that are not yet available in the main version of Chrome, you can install Chrome Beta.
Step
Preparation Before Starting
Step 1. Check Android version
Google Chrome can only be installed and run on devices running the Android 4.0 operating system or later.
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down the screen, then tap "About Device".
- Find the "Android version" entry. As long as your device is running Android version 4.0 and later, you can install Chrome.
Method 1 of 3: Downloading Chrome via Play Store
Step 1. Open the Play Store on the device
You need to sign in using a Google account.
Step 2. Tap the magnifying glass button, then do a search with the word "chrome"
Step 3. Select "Chrome Browser - Google" from the list of search results
Step 4. Tap "Install" to start downloading and installing Chrome into the Android device
If you see an "Open" or "Update" button, Chrome is already installed on your phone
Step 5. Wait for Chrome to finish installing
The installation process may take a few minutes, especially if your network signal is poor.
Step 6. Launch Chrome
You can tap the "Open" button on the Chrome page in the Play Store, or you can launch it via the App Drawer.
Step 7. Sign in using your Google account
Chrome will display the Google account connected to your Android device, which you can use to log into Chrome. By doing so, you can access your synced site address records (bookmarks), history, and settings.
Step 8. Set Chrome as the primary browser
Later, when you tap on a link that takes you to a website or something else that will be opened with a web browser, Android will ask you to select the app to use. Select "Chrome", then tap "Always" so that similar links always open with Chrome.
Method 2 of 3: Downloading Old Versions of Chrome
Step 1. Remove installed Chrome (if any)
If you have a newer version of Chrome on your device, you must remove it before installing the older version of Chrome.
- Open the Settings app.
- Select "Applications" or "Apps".
- Find Chrome in the list of installed apps.
- Tap "Uninstall". If Chrome is installed directly on the device, tap "Uninstall updates" to revert Chrome to its original version, which is the version it was given when the factory installed it.
Step 2. Allow installation of apps from unknown sources
If you need an older version of Chrome, you can get it online, but you'll need to set up your device to install apps from sources other than the Play Store.
- Open the Settings app.
- Select "Security".
- Scroll down and check the "Unknown sources" box.
Step 3. Visit the site that hosts the old version of the app
There are several sites that host APK (installer) files for older versions of apps. Make sure that the sites you visit are trusted because installing apps from unknown sources can harm your device.
One of the most popular websites for downloading old apps is APKMirror. You can find older versions of Chrome on APKMirror, via the following link
Step 4. Tap on the Chrome version that you want to download onto the device
You may have to wait a while for the download to complete.
Step 5. Open the notification bar on the device, then tap on the "Download Complete" notification once Chrome finishes downloading
The installation process will begin. You will be asked to confirm that you want to install apps from unknown sources.
Step 6. Start Chrome
Once installed, you can start Chrome the way you normally would open any other app.
Step 7. Turn off the automatic update option
If you don't want your Chrome version to be updated, you must disable automatic updates in the Google Play Store. This way, your device won't automatically download the latest version of Chrome.
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Open the menu, then tap "Settings".
- Tap "Auto-update apps", then select "Don't auto-update apps". From now on, you will have to manually update the app.
Method 3 of 3: Downloading Chrome Beta
Step 1. Open Play Store with the device
Google allows every Android user to download the beta version of Chrome. That version of Chrome acts as a test object for the latest Chrome features that will be implemented in the next app update, and this means that you can access new features faster than regular users. The downside is that Chrome isn't as stable as the regular version of Chrome, and Google doesn't guarantee that Chrome Beta will always work normally.
Step 2. Tap on the magnifying glass icon, then do a search with the keyword "chrome beta"
Step 3. Select "Chrome Beta" from the search results
Step 4. Tap "Install" to start downloading and installing Chrome Beta into Android device
Step 5. Start Chrome Beta once it's finished installing
You will be asked to agree to the applicable terms before you can start using them.
