Step
Method 1 of 3: Making Iced Green Tea with the Hot Brewing Method
Step 1. Bring 950 ml of water to a boil in a large saucepan
If you want to drink it yourself, simply boil 240 ml of water in a teapot and pour it directly into the cup.
Step 2. Remove the pot from the stove, and drop 4 to 6 tea bags into the water
The more tea bags used, the stronger the taste of the tea. If you want to drink alone, just put 1 tea bag in the cup.
Step 3. Brew the tea for 3 minutes
Don't brew the tea too long so it doesn't taste bitter! If you like a strong flavored tea, simply increase the number of tea bags used.
Step 4. Remove the tea bag from the water
If you want, you can dip the tea bag several times in the water to get the most out of the tea extract. Make sure you also squeeze the tea bag to remove any excess liquid before throwing it away.
Step 5. Let the tea come to room temperature before placing it in the refrigerator
Generally, this process takes about an hour, although it really depends on the air temperature where you live. Don't put hot tea in the fridge! In other words, wait until the temperature is completely cool so that the tea doesn't risk damaging the quality of the food around it.
Step 6. Store the tea in the refrigerator until it cools down, about 1 to 2 hours
Step 7. Fill 4 glasses with ice cubes
The number of ice cubes can be adjusted according to your taste, but should not be too much so as not to dominate the contents of the glass. If the tea will be drunk alone, just fill 1 tall glass with ice cubes.
Step 8. Pour the cooled tea into a glass, and add a little honey, if desired
If the tea doesn't go away right away, you can store it in a mason jar or pitcher and refrigerate it. The tea can last for 3 to 5 days.
Method 2 of 3: Making Iced Green Tea with the Cold Brewing Method
Step 1. Fill a tall glass with 240 ml of cold or room temperature water
Tea brewed with hot water will taste more bitter than tea brewed with cold or room temperature water. Instead, the taste will actually feel lighter and softer, you know!
If you want to make more tea, brew the tea using a pitcher. In general, 240 ml of water is equivalent to 1 serving
Step 2. Add 1 green tea bag, or similar amount of tea leaves
Some people prefer to cut the tea bag and use only the contents to produce a better tasting tea.
- If you want to make more tea, brew the tea using a pitcher. In general, 1 tea bag is equivalent to 1 serving.
- 1 tea bag equals 1 tbsp. (2 to 3 grams) of tea leaves.
Step 3. Cover the cup or pitcher, then refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours
Allow enough time for the taste and aroma of the tea to mix perfectly with the brewing water. If you prefer a stronger tea, you can brew it in the refrigerator for 6 to 8 hours.
Step 4. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes
If making a lot of tea, prepare more glasses. In general, one glass should be filled with 240 ml of iced tea.
Step 5. Remove the tea bag while squeezing the excess liquid into the glass
If using tea leaves, read the next step to find out which method to use.
Step 6. Pour the cooled tea into a glass filled with ice cubes
If using real tea leaves, strain the tea first before pouring it into a glass. If the tea leaves are finely ground, you may need to coat the filter with a coffee filter first.
Step 7. Add honey as a sweetener if desired, and serve the tea immediately
Make sure the honey is stirred well until it is thoroughly mixed with the tea. If the amount of tea is large enough, store the rest in the refrigerator and use it within 3 to 5 days.
Method 3 of 3: Making Iced Green Tea with Lemon
Step 1. Fill a cup with 120 ml of boiling water
In this recipe, you first need to make a thick-textured solution of green tea with lemon using a little hot water. Don't worry, the amount of water will be added at a later stage.
Step 2. Put 1 green tea bag in the water and add 2 tablespoons of sugar, if desired
Interested in using other sweeteners such as honey? Please do that at the end of the process.
Step 3. Brew the tea for 3 minutes, then remove the tea bag while squeezing the remaining liquid into the glass
Step 4. Squeeze the juice of 2 lemons, and pour it into the tea
If you want the tea to be more tart and sour, you can add a little grated lemon zest to it.
Step 5. Add 240 ml of cold water, mix well
Do this to dilute the still very strong tea solution and reduce the bitterness.
Step 6. Fill 1 to 2 glasses with ice cubes
The number of ice cubes can be adjusted according to your taste, but it should not be too much so that it does not dominate the contents of the glass. The recipe above can make 1 large cup or 2 small cups of iced green tea.
Step 7. Pour iced green tea with lemon into a glass filled with ice cubes
Since the tea is still slightly warm, don't worry if the ice cubes melt. This process is very normal.
Step 8. Garnish the tea, if desired, then serve the tea immediately
Green iced tea with lemon can be served directly, or after the surface is decorated with mint leaves and lemon slices to make the color look more attractive.
Tips
- The flavor of the tea can be enriched by adding sliced fresh ginger and/or mint leaves to the pot of tea that is being brewed.
- After adding the ice cubes, you can enrich the taste of the tea by adding a slice of cucumber or lemon.
- In fact, there are various variations of green tea mixed with various additional ingredients, such as lemongrass and min. If you don't like the standard flavor of green tea, chances are that such a unique variant will suit your taste buds better.
- Although sugar is a sweetener that is commonly mixed into a glass of iced tea, there's nothing wrong with choosing a healthier option like honey. There's no need to worry because the taste goes well with green tea!
