“Boho Chic” is described as a style that uses floating clothes, classic and ethnic accessories, and natural hair and makeup. The term became popular in 2002, when Australian journalist Laura Demasi used it to describe the eclectic gypsy look that was then in Vogue. Even though 10 years have passed since Demasi's article was written, Boho Chic is still a popular style.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Choosing Boho Chic. Outfits
Step 1. Choose clothes with natural fabrics and colors
When collecting Boho Chic clothing, choose clothes made from natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, velvet, chiffon, silk, leather, suede, and fur.
- Also, choose clothes in natural colors, such as white, beige, light brown, orange and earth red, and dark green.
- Note that wearing fur is seen as a cruel and unethical choice. If you love fur, but don't want to wear real fur, there are many faux fur outfits available.
Step 2. Add lace, crochet, and other embellishments
Crochet and lacy overalls, tops, hats, and bags are the basis of Boho Chic. Beading, tassel, and embroidery are also popular and can be added to clothing and accessories.
Step 3. Try fun motifs
Boho Chic clothing has many motifs, such as flowers and quirky accents, as well as plaid and ethnic motifs.
When experimenting with fun motifs, mix them with other relatively neutral options to create balance
Step 4. Think convenience
At the heart of the Boho Chic style is comfort. You'll see lots of soft, loose, and floaty clothes that are often worn in layers.
- A maxi dress (long, and usually loose) is an example of a comfortable, floaty outfit that Boho Chic women often display.
- Another example of a cozy Boho Chic look is a short top and white lace float paired with a light brown long knit sweater.
Step 5. Combine tights and floats
Not everything you wear has to be loose. You can combine a loose top with fitted pants or skirts, or vice versa. Here's an example of what you can wear in the colder months, when rain and snow make floating dresses and skirts impractical:
- Pair well-fitting blue jeans with a white chambray top and a loose-fitting neutral knit sweater.
- Add charm to this long silver necklace with a beautiful stone pendant, specifically turquoise.
- You can also pair the outfit with a jewel-colored scarf.
- For shoes, choose ankle boots in brown, beige, or light brown with a relatively low heel (like cowboy boots).
Step 6. Wear shoes with natural materials and colors
Ethnic ballet shoes and sandals (inspired by Greek, Roman, or African styles) are common footwear choices in the Boho Chic style. When the weather is cold, you can wear cowboy boots, ankle boots with chunky heels, or high boots inspired by '70s fashion.
- The choice of materials for shoes is leather and suede with natural colors such as light brown, beige, and brown.
- If you're vegan, try looking for a vegan “skin” version that looks like the real thing.
Step 7. Avoid neon colors
Bright colors are great for warming up a Boho Chic style, but make sure they're in nature. For example, gem colors like ruby red or sapphire blue, or turquoise colors like clear mountain lake water.
Step 8. Don't overdo it
Combining the Boho Chic style is certainly a bit challenging with the motifs and layers that can be used. Avoid the temptation to wear all your favorites at once. You also need to avoid a lot of color, choose a neutral color with one or two other color accents.
- You should also consider texture. Patterned pants with lace tops and frayed knit vests are certainly overkill.
- Similarly, if you are wearing a beaded top, it would be superfluous to add it to a beaded necklace.
- If you're not sure what colors to combine, try searching the internet for “Boho Chic color combinations” for creative suggestions.
Step 9. Choose clothes that fit your body shape
If your body is curvy, look for clothes that have more structure because floating and layered clothes make you look bigger.
If you're thin and short, you'll be drowning in long, layered floats. Choose tops and/or short, slightly fitted skirts and shoes with heels
Part 2 of 3: Using Accessories
Step 1. Know that accessories are mandatory
Boho Chic locks are layers, and accessories are an important part.
Step 2. Put on the bracelet
Bracelets are a must in Boho Chic style. Thin and woven silver bracelets are the most popular types. For a creative variation, you can wear a wooden bracelet.
- You can also wear anklets. Silver and sheer anklets are a beautiful choice.
- You can also wear bracelets on your arms (called armbands), popular choices are metal and woven bracelets.
Step 3. Wear dangle earrings
Boho Chic earrings are usually dangling and are made of a combination of metal and natural stone. Sometimes, earrings are also made of fur and leather. As with everything in Boho Chic style, look for natural colors and materials.
Step 4. Put on the necklace
Boho Chic necklaces vary in length, but are made of two things that are generally the same, natural materials and colors.
- Commonly used materials are leather, metal, stone, shell, tassel, cotton, and wool (these are also common materials for earrings and bracelets).
- Ethnic accessories are very popular.
Step 5. Have at least one hat
Fedora hats and wide-brimmed hats are very popular in the Boho Chic style, as are knitted hats. Wide-brimmed, limp hats in natural colors are often paired with long dresses, or floating tops and short skirts.
Step 6. Buy a bandana
Floral headbands are very popular in the summer of 2015. Other types of headbands are braided headbands and chain tiaras.
It is also popular to wrap a scarf or bandana in your hair or use it like a headband
Step 7. Have a colored bag
Colorful patterned handbags as well as bags with tassels and tassels are popular choices. As always, choose natural materials and colors.
Step 8. Wear classic style sunglasses
Oversized sunglasses of varying shapes are an important element in the Boho Chic style. Round and aviator sunglasses are quite popular, but anything big and classic can be worn as long as it fits your face shape.
Step 9. Don't overdo it
Choose accessories with the overall outfit in mind. Make sure that a) accessories match the outfit, and b) don't compete with each other.
- Don't wear five necklaces with large stone pendants, just choose the one that best suits the outfit.
- Don't wear a chain tiara with jeans and a simple white top. A chain tiara will fit better with a maxi dress.
Part 3 of 3: Makeup and Hairdressing
Step 1. Buy cosmetics in neutral colors
The idea is to look natural without looking pale. To determine the color of cosmetics to buy, look at your face when you are blushing, how to:
After exercising or doing activities that make your heart rate increase, look at your face. What color are your cheeks and lips? Those are the colors you need to highlight in your Boho Chic makeup
Step 2. Make sure your skin looks even and clear of blemishes
If your skin is perfect, you're in luck! If it's not perfect like most people, you'll need to apply concealer to the blemishes, and maybe foundation to the rest of your face.
- If your skin is fairly smooth with only slight redness, try a tinted moisturizer, BB or CC cream instead of foundation. It helps to even out skin tone without having a thick or mask-like feel.
- If your skin is oily, use a light foundation in the form of powder (powder foundation). Use a brush, not a sponge, to make it more even.
Step 3. Add highlighter
Highlighter creams and powders are great for adding an extra glow to the face. Apply to the inner corner of the eye (the skin next to the tear glands), the upper cheekbones, and the V-shaped slit above the lips.
If you want, apply highlighter to other parts of your face, such as your chin and forehead
Step 4. Apply blush
After the face looks smooth, add blush. Smile and brush a little blush on the circle of the cheek outwards following the natural curve of the cheek.
- When applying blush, keep in mind a fresh complexion, not redness after intense exercise.
- A little blush on the bridge of the nose can give a fresh look like just sunbathing. However, do not overdo it because you will look like a sick person with a red nose.
- If you have dark skin, you can use bronzer instead of blush.
Step 5. Highlight the eyes
Boho Chic makeup ranges from neutral to smokey eyes. For traditional Boho Chic, choose a color that accentuates the eyes without making it obvious that you're applying makeup.
- Earth reds, browns, and golds are popular choices, plus a light coat of black mascara on curled lashes.
- If you want dramatic eye makeup, make sure your lips are neutral or else your makeup will look overdone.
Step 6. Have healthy looking lips
If you don't use lipstick, use lip balm to make your lips look soft and moisturized.
- If you want to wear lipstick, choose a color that looks natural on your skin.
- Moist lip gloss and lipstick in pinks, peaches, and burgundy and berry hues are popular choices.
- Avoid bright matte lipsticks and glossy lip glosses that look unnatural.
Step 7. Choose a natural hairstyle
Boho Chic hair is usually long and wavy, in black, brown, red, and natural blonde.
- If your hair isn't long, don't worry. Choose a hairstyle that looks classic, ideally not standing up or sharply shaved.
- Loose braids and loose curls are two of the most popular styles.
- If you insist on straightening your hair, add a touch of curl below so that your straight hair still looks natural.
