This wikiHow teaches you how to update your ASUS computer's motherboard software. You can update this software (known as BIOS) by downloading the update file from the ASUS website and selecting the file through the BIOS interface. Keep in mind that usually the BIOS doesn't need to be updated if you still have Windows updates installed regularly.

Part 1 of 4: Finding the Computer Model Name
Step 1. Open the “Start” menu
Click the Windows logo in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 2. Open the settings menu or “Settings”
Click the gear icon in the lower-left corner of the “Start” menu.
Step 3. Click System
It's a monitor icon in the upper-left corner of the “Settings” window.
Step 4. Click About
It's a tab in the lower-left corner of the window.
Step 5. Find the computer model name
You can see the computer model name between the " Device specifications " heading and the " Device name " heading.
Part 2 of 4: Downloading the BIOS Update
Step 1. Visit ASUS support site
Access https://www.asus.com/support/Download-Center/ via a web browser on a computer.
Step 2. Click the "Please enter a model name" text field
This column is at the top of the page.
Step 3. Enter the computer model name
Type the name of the model you found in the " About " section of the " System Settings " menu. As you type an entry, a drop-down menu with the appropriate search results will be displayed.
Step 4. Select the appropriate model name
On the drop-down menu, click the computer model number.
Step 5. Click Drivers & Utility
This link is on the right side of the page.
Step 6. Click the BIOS & FIRMWARE tab
This tab is in the middle of the page.
Step 7. Look for available updates
You can view the latest BIOS update files on this page. If the date on the BIOS update file is later than your computer's manufacture or manufacture date, it's possible that your computer's BIOS needs updating.
If the file is several years old, it's possible that the BIOS on your computer doesn't need updating
Step 8. Click DOWNLOAD
This link is on the right side of the BIOS file. After that, the BIOS file ZIP folder will be downloaded to the computer.
Part 3 of 4: Placing BIOS Update Files
Step 1. Extract the downloaded BIOS update folder
You need to use WinRAR to open or extract the contents of the BIOS archive:
- Install WinRAR if it is not already available on the computer.
- Double-click the downloaded update folder.
- Click " Extract To ” at the top of the window.
- Click " OK ”.
Step 2. Copy the BIOS file
After extracting the contents of the archive, double-click the extracted folder to open it, then locate the BIOS file (usually a blank white file with the computer model number), click the file, and press the Ctrl+C shortcut.
Step 3. Open the “This PC” segment
Click This PC ” on the left side of the File Explorer window.
Step 4. Double-click the hard drive
The drives are displayed under the " Devices and drives " heading.
Step 5. Double click the “Windows” folder
This folder is at the bottom of the window.
You may need to scroll through the page to see the folder
Step 6. Double click the “ASUS” folder
This folder is inside the " Windows " folder.
Step 7. Paste the copied file
Press the shortcut Ctrl+V to paste the file. You can see the copied files in the " ASUS " folder.
You may need to click the “ Continue ” after pasting the file to confirm the action.
Part 4 of 4: Updating BIOS
Step 1. Turn off the computer
Click the menu Start ”
choose Power ”
and click Shut down ”.
Do not restart the computer
Step 2. Hold down the F2 key
After the computer shuts down, start pressing and holding this button.
Step 3. Press the power or “Power” button
While holding down the F2 ”, press the computer's physical power button or “Power” button to turn on the computer.
Step 4. Release the F2 key when the BIOS is displayed
The BIOS page will load after a few seconds, and you can release the “ F2 after that.
Step 5. Select the Advanced tab
This tab is at the top of the BIOS page.
Step 6. Select Start Easy Flash
It's at the top of the "Advanced" page.
Step 7. Select the BIOS update file
You can select files using the directory “ FS1 ” to browse to the “ASUS” folder on the computer:
- Use the “down” arrow key to select “ FS1 ”.
- Press the “right” arrow key to open “ FS1 ”.
- Choose " Windows ” and press Enter key.
- Choose " ASUS ” and press Enter key.
- Select the update file at the bottom of the list and press Enter.
Step 8. Confirm the installation of the update
Press the "Confirm" button as prompted when prompted to confirm the BIOS update. After that, the BIOS will be updated immediately.
Step 9. Wait for the BIOS to finish updating
The update process takes a few minutes to about half an hour. While the BIOS is being updated, make sure you perform the following actions:
- Keep the computer connected to a power source in case the computer battery runs out of power at any time.
- Do not restart (or in general tamper with) the computer until it has finished reloading.
