This wikiHow teaches you how to breed animals in Minecraft. Animal breeding is done by collecting 2 animals of the same type and giving them the food they like. This can be done on any version of Minecraft, such as the computer edition, Pocket Edition, or console.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Taming Animals
Step 1. Know what kind of animal to tame before you breed it
Skip this step if the animal you want to breed is not one of the following:
- Horse
- Wolf
- Cat
- Llama
Step 2. Get materials to tame animals
Prepare the following materials according to the animal you want to tame:
- Horse - No materials required, but hands must be empty.
- Wolf - A piece of bone.
- Ocelot (a type of wildcat) - Any raw fish (must be raw fish or raw salmon if you are playing Minecraft PE).
- Llama - No materials required, but hands must be empty.
Step 3. Bring taming materials
To tame a llama or horse, you don't need to bring anything with you, but you must select an empty slot in the gear column.
Step 4. Select the desired animal while carrying the taming material
Right click and touch, or press the left trigger while pointing your body at the animal.
- When taming a llama or horse, you will ride the animal when you choose it. You have to climb up and down from its back several times until a heart appears above the animal's head.
- When taming an ocelot, approach the ocelot until it reaches a distance of 10 blocks from it. Wait for the ocelot to move closer before you select it.
Step 5. Wait for the heart to appear above the animal's head
Keep selecting the animal until its heart appears. If a red heart appears above the animal's head, it means you've managed to tame it.
Step 6. Repeat this process on other animals of the same breed
Since you must use 2 animals to breed, you must also tame a second animal of the same breed to breed it.
Part 2 of 2: Breeding Animals
Step 1. Prepare 2 animals that you want to breed
Skip this step if the animal has been previously tamed.
You cannot breed 2 animals of different types (eg a wolf with a pig)
Step 2. Make a cage with one part open
You can do this using a fence, or a wall 2 blocks high. Provide ample space for animals to move freely.
Step 3. Take the food that the animal likes
Depending on the type of animal to be bred, please bring the following foods according to the animal:
- Horse - Golden carrot or golden apple. Both of these foods can be made by placing a carrot or apple in the center of a craft box. Next, place the gold bars in all the other crafting squares.
- Sheep - Wheat.
- Cow or mushroom cow (mooshroom) - Wheat.
- Pig - Potatoes, carrots or beets.
- Chicken - Seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds, or beetroot.
- Wolf (dog) - Any meat available. Wolves must have full health in order to reproduce.
- Ocelot (cat) - All kinds of fish.
- Rabbit - Carrots, dandelions, or golden carrots.
- Llama - Straw rolls.
Step 4. Wait for the animal to follow you
As soon as you touch their favorite food, the animal will turn and look at you. At this point, you can lure him into the cage.
Step 5. Enter the cage
The animal will follow you into the cage as long as you bring food.
Go deep into the cage so that animals following you don't get stuck at the entrance
Step 6. Feed both animals
While carrying food, select the two animals you want to breed. After that, above the heads of the 2 animals a heart will appear.
If the heart symbol does not appear when you feed the wolf, it means that the animal's health bar is not full. Keep feeding the wolf until its heart appears, and repeat the same steps for the second wolf
Step 7. Get out of the cage and close the door
Once the two animals are facing each other, get out of the cage and close the door. This is to prevent the two animals from escaping when the baby is born.
Step 8. Wait for the baby to appear
About 3 seconds later (from the moment the two begin to breed), a baby will emerge from the breeding.
Tips
- If you have chicken eggs, you can throw them on the ground to make chicks.
- If you don't find any animals, switch to creative mode and breed animals using eggs.
