This wikiHow teaches you how to breed two horses in Minecraft to pair up. Once tamed, make the two horses breed by giving one golden apple to each horse. Breeding horses is possible in all versions of Minecraft, including computer, Pocket Edition, and console editions.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Taming a Horse
Step 1. Collect at least 40 apples
You will need approximately 20 apples for each horse you wish to tame. Apples will make it significantly easier (and faster) to tame a horse than if you tamed it without using food.
Step 2. Find the horse
You can usually find horses in flat, grassy areas such as plains and savannas.
Step 3. Take the apple
In the toolbar at the bottom, select the apple before you approach the horse.
Step 4. Select the horse until the animal stops eating
Right-click or press the left trigger button (LT or left trigger) on the horse until there is no more rattling sound and the horse starts jumping and neighing.
In Minecraft PE, you have to face the horse and tap Feed 20 times.
Step 5. Switch to empty hands
This allows you to ride a horse.
Step 6. Select the horse
Right click or press left trigger button to select a horse. After doing so, you will ride the horse.
In Minecraft PE, you have to face the horse and tap Mount located at the bottom of the screen.
Step 7. Wait for the red heart to appear
If there are several red hearts around the horse, you have successfully tamed it. Next, you can dismount from the horse by pressing the button Shift left or "Crouch".
If the horse throws you off its back, hop back on and wait for the red heart to appear. You may have to perform this action several times
Step 8. Tame the other horse
You must have two tame horses if you want to breed them.
If the first tamed horse doesn't follow you, place it in a high area two blocks wide to prevent it from roaming around
Step 9. Build a wall 2 blocks high around the horse
You can do this using any material (such as sand or dirt), but the walls must be two blocks high to prevent the horse from escaping.
- If you have sufficient fencing materials in your inventory, use them to place horses instead of having to make blocks.
- You can make additional space in the stable as you will have a third horse in the near future.
Part 2 of 2: Breeding Horses
Step 1. Gather the ingredients to make a golden apple
You will need two golden apples (one apple for each horse). This means you will need the following ingredients:
- 2 apples - As a base for making golden apples.
- 16 gold bars - You can make gold bars by melting gold ore in a furnace.
- 1 crafting table - This is a tool for making golden apples. If you don't have a crafting table yet, make one before continuing.
Step 2. Make 2 golden apples
The way to do this is slightly different, depending on the device you're using:
- Computer - Open the crafting table, click the gold ingot pile, right click 2 times on each box on the crafting table, except the one in the middle. Next, place the two apples in the square in the middle, then move the two golden apples to your inventory.
- Mobile devices - Open the crafting table, tap the magnifying glass icon on the left of the screen, then double-tap the golden apple icon.
- Console - Open the crafting table, select the magnifying glass tab, then select the golden apple icon twice.
Step 3. Enter the stables
Make sure no horses escape when they enter the stable.
Step 4. Make sure both horses are completely healthy
Giving a golden apple to a horse you accidentally attack will only feed the horse, not prepare it for mating.
If the horse is not completely healthy, feed it red apples until both horses stop eating
Step 5. Take the golden apple
Select the golden apple in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
Step 6. Select each horse
Right click or press the left trigger button on each horse while carrying the golden apple. By doing so, several red hearts will appear above each horse's head. This indicates that both are ready to breed.
In Minecraft PE, you have to face each horse and touch Feed at the bottom of the screen.
Step 7. Wait for the foal to appear
A few seconds later, a small horse will appear in the stable. This foal is the result of breeding from two of your tame mares.
