Want to have healthy glowing skin without having to pay for expensive facial products? There is good news! You can make a fantastic face mask using ingredients you probably already have in your fridge. An egg white, lemon and honey mask will help reduce blackheads and acne while an egg yolk, olive oil and banana mask will help moisturize and nourish the skin. Read this article to learn how to make both!
Ingredients
Ingredients for a Simple Mask
- 1 egg white
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- tablespoon honey
Ingredients for Nourishing Masks
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 banana, mashed
- 2 teaspoons coconut oil or olive oil
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making a Simple Mask
Step 1. Separate the eggs
Crack the eggs over a bowl, and transfer the yolks from shell to shell. Each time you move the yolk, a little bit of the egg white will flow into the bowl. Keep doing this until all the egg whites fall into the bowl. Not only will the egg white help nourish and tighten the skin, it will also help tighten the pores. Discard the yolk or save it for another recipe.
You can use egg yolks to make a nourishing face mask. See the section in this article on making a nourishing face mask to learn how to make one
Step 2. Add lemon juice to the egg whites
You need 2 teaspoons of lemon juice. Lemon juice acts as a natural astringent and helps get rid of the bacteria that cause acne and blackheads. It can also help lighten the skin.
Step 3. Mix egg white and lemon juice
Using a fork, beat the two ingredients quickly until the egg whites become frothy.
Step 4. Add honey to the egg white and lemon juice mixture, and mix everything again
You will need tablespoon of honey. Make sure the honey used is a clear and watery type of honey. Honey is anti-bacterial and acts as a natural antiseptic. Honey also moisturizes and helps nourish the skin.
Step 5. Prepare your face for the mask by washing it off with warm water
This will open up the pores, making the mask more effective. Since this mask has a tendency to get very messy, you can also tie your hair back into a ponytail, braid, or pin it back. This will prevent it from sticking.
To protect your clothes, consider draping a towel over your chest and shoulders
Step 6. Apply the mask to the face
You can use your fingers, a cotton ball, or even a cloth. Avoid the area around the nose, mouth and eyes.
Step 7. Leave the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes
This mask is runny and may drip from the face. To prevent you from getting too dirty and messy, consider lying down or sitting in a chair with your head tilted back.
You can also use this mask in the bath when you take a relaxing bath
Step 8. Wash off the mask and pat your face dry
Use warm water and splash it on your face. Wash the mask gently and avoid scrubbing your face too hard. Use a clean, soft towel to pat your face dry.
Step 9. Consider continuing with a little moisturizer
The lemon in this mask might make your skin a little dry. If you feel your face is a little dry, apply some moisturizer to your face.
Method 2 of 2: Making a Nourishing Mask
Step 1. Separate the eggs and save the yolks
Crack the eggs over a bowl and move the yolks back and forth between the two halves of the shell. Each time the yolk falls into the shell, a little bit of the egg white will fall into the bowl. Keep doing this until all the egg whites fall into the bowl. Save the yolks and discard the egg whites (or save them for another recipe). Not only does egg yolk help nourish and moisturize the skin, it can also help reduce the appearance of blemishes.
You can use egg whites to make a simple face mask. To learn how to make one, see the section in the article on making simple masks
Step 2. Add the mashed bananas to the egg yolks
Peel the bananas, and cut them into small pieces with a knife. Use a fork to grind it into a pulp. Bananas will help nourish the face.
Step 3. Add coconut oil or olive oil
You will need 2 teaspoons of olive oil. Olive oil will moisturize your face, leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth. If you don't have olive oil, you can use coconut oil instead, which is also very moisturizing.
Step 4. Prepare your face for the mask by washing it off and tying your hair back
Use warm water to help open the pores. If you wear makeup, you will need to remove it first using a makeup remover product. Since this mask can be messy, it's a good idea to tie or pin your hair back. You can also drape a towel over your chest and shoulders to protect your clothes.
Step 5. Apply the mask to the face
You can use your fingers, a cotton ball, or even a cloth. Avoid the area around the nose, mouth and eyes.
Step 6. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes
To prevent the mask from dripping everywhere, lie down or sit in a comfortable chair with your head tilted back. You can also use this mask in the bath while you are bathing or taking a relaxing bath.
Step 7. Wash off the mask and pat your face dry
Use warm water to rinse your face thoroughly. Try not to rub too hard. Gently pat your face dry with a soft clean towel
