You might think that being a popular 5th grader is impossible. However, 5th grade is a good time to increase your popularity, because you will be in junior high school soon. You can use your 5th grade to change your behavior, be kinder, and get involved in school and community activities. Popularity is not being a “Bad Girl” who is rude to almost everyone. Popular means being liked, respected, and always having fun. So how do you become popular? See Step one to get started.

Part 1 of 3: Getting Attention

Step 1. Let others see that you are having fun

Don't be in someone else's shadow. If you want attention, then you can't be the quiet student who is always at the back when dancing or the very quiet girl in class. You should be known for your positive energy, laughter, and optimistic nature. You should enjoy yourself, whether you're playing with friends or studying history in class. You don't have to make things up, but you should try to be someone who can always find something that makes you happy in almost every situation.

• Well, you can't possibly laugh in the middle of a science exam. However, you should try to be a fun person, and make other people want to hang out because of your positive energy. If you're a negative or complaining person, people are less likely to want to hang out with you.
• This doesn't mean you have to pretend to be happy when you really aren't. This doesn't mean you have to always think positive by pushing those negative feelings out, and showing your best self to the world. Everyone has bad days, and you shouldn't force yourself to be happy when you're feeling down, but you should make an effort to have more good days than bad.

Step 2. Stand out - in a good sense

You probably wouldn't be popular if you were known as the girl who spilled coke on herself - but hey, accidents happen. But if you're known for always wearing cute shoes, having a quirky laugh, making your own bracelet on vacation, or being able to talk to just about anyone, then people will start to notice. You don't have to dye your hair pink or wear a fake tattoo to get attention; whatever you do should be humble and not overdo it like that. Now it's your turn to decide what will be your signature.

Step 3. Be proficient at something

If you are known for your talents or talents, such as a great voice, being the best football player in your class, or proficient in English, then more people will know who you are and will respect you for that. You don't have to show off or try to be the best at every little thing. In fact, it's much better if you're so, so good at one thing that it makes you stand out. Choose what you like and try to master it; soon, people will notice you for it.

• Also, being good at something can increase your self-confidence, because you will feel you have added value.
• If you're trying to master something that requires teamwork, like playing soccer or drama, then this will be a good way for you to get to know more people and become popular that way.

Step 4. Build your confidence

Another way to get attention is to build confidence. While it's not always easy to feel confident, especially when you're in 5th grade and still indecisive about everything, you can try to like and be proud of yourself, both now and in the future. You can do this by hanging out with people you feel comfortable with, trying to do well in school and asking for help if you need it, and talking to other people about the things you enjoy. If your friend is being bullied, defend him or her from the bully. If you have confidence, people will notice - and you.

Step 5. Demonstrate confident body language

Even if you're not always confident, it's enough to look confident. If you want people to notice you out of confidence, then you have to make sure that your body shows this. Body language can do that for you, whether you're walking around school or hanging out with friends. What's more, if your body language conveys confidence, it can make you feel more confident, and it doesn't hurt anyone. Here are some tricks to try if you want to have more confident body language:

• Look into the eyes of your interlocutor

  

• Stand up straight, don't bend over

  

• Have good posture, even when you are sitting

  

• Don't cross your arms in front of your chest

  

• Look straight ahead when walking, not down

  

• Approach your interlocutor, not away

  

Step 6. Maintain cleanliness

You don't have to look like a shampoo model to take care of yourself. However, it is important that you take care of your appearance so that others see that you treat yourself with respect. If you don't care about your appearance and let your house look messy, people will think that you don't respect yourself. It's not about pretending or looking like a celebrity - it's about you having to respect yourself and believe that you deserve to take care of your appearance. Here's what you should do:

• Wash every day or every other day, depending on your hair type
• Brush your teeth every morning
• Shower regularly
• Brush/comb your hair before school

Step 7. Wear clothes that make you feel comfortable

You don't have to follow the latest trends or wear what other cool kids are wearing to be popular. In fact, if you do that and end up wearing something you're not, then the results won't look good. You can shop at fashionable stores like Zara, Pull & Bear, Stradivarius, Penshoppe, or Forever 21 if you're into fashion. The most important thing is that your clothes are clean, fit, and make you feel comfortable.

• You can also wear matching accessories, such as a necklace or hat, to go with your outfit. But you don't have to overdo it.

  

Part 2 of 3: Socializing

Step 1. Smile

You may think that smiling only makes you look high or desperate, but that's not the case. Everyone loves people who smile at them, and smiling can make you feel better about yourself and can make other people feel better about themselves too. Get into the habit of smiling at people when you run into them at school, at the bus stop, or even in class if you see them. Smiling at people can soften them up, and make you appear more approachable so people will want to talk to you.

• You don't have to overdo it. Don't look for people to smile at you, but smile when you see each other.
• A lot of smiles will also give you a reputation as a friendly person, and people will be happy to come to you to ask questions or invite you to play.

Step 2. Be able to laugh at yourself

If you slip at school and your clothes get dirty or you do something embarrassing, just say "oops," and laugh about it to have fun with your friends instead of making it a big deal. If you accidentally make an embarrassing comment in class or tell a joke that isn't funny, it can seem like big trouble if you make it that way. If you can laugh it off, forget about it, and show that you're a fun person, people will respect you and be more interested in hanging out with you.

No one wants to hang out with people who are so serious that they're afraid to offend them. If you can laugh at yourself, people will be more attracted to you because they don't have to be careful what they say

Step 3. Be kind to everyone

Don't just be friendly to "cool" kids and then ignore the others. Get in the habit of being friendly and nice to everyone, unless the person gives you an excuse to be unkind to them. Don't listen to what other people have to say and decide for yourself whether everyone has a good heart instead of assuming that the person is "weird" because of what other people say. You have to respect everyone for who they are, smile, then ask how they are, and know that you can learn something from anyone. Having a reputation for being kind and friendly can make you more popular.

• The only time you don't have to be friendly is when other people are mean to you. You don't want to do good to people who take advantage of you.
• What's more, think about this: you're still in 5th grade. Contrary to popular belief, the group of “popular kids” can change in elementary, middle, and high school. If you're nice to everyone, then it's guaranteed that you won't feel like a stranger to someone who's going to be popular in the future.

Step 4. Stay positive

While it's impossible to never complain, you should try to be a source of positive energy instead of negative energy. You should talk about things you enjoy, compliment other people, discuss exciting things to come, like school holidays or a movie you'd really like to see, or get in the habit of keeping things fun when talking to other people. You don't want to make people think that you're someone who is always negative and complains about everything, or they won't want to hang out with you.

If you are known to be a positive person, then people will tend to want to spend time with you and approach you. If people think all you do when you talk to them is complain, they will stay away from you

Step 5. Don't pretend

Unfortunately, people can pretend to be in 5th grade if they want to get something. They will smile at people they don't like, gossip too much, or say things they really don't agree with just to get attention. While these kinds of actions can increase your popularity in the short term, in the long run you should try to avoid these actions and try to be yourself. Let people know who you are and don't lie about your interests. If you fake it, people will find out soon enough.

Even if you think that popular people knock each other down and gossip about each other, real popular people believe in themselves so they don't have to talk bad about other people. Make sure you don't fall into temptation and stay true to your friends. If other people start gossiping near you, try changing the subject or walking out of the conversation

Step 6. Be open to meeting new people

If you really want to socialize, then you're not hanging out with ten people you already know. It won't make you grow. Instead, try to be open to talking to someone completely new, whether it's someone in another class or even another level, or a new student in your class. If you're already very comfortable with yourself, then you should have no problem talking to new people, introducing yourself, and seeing if you fit in with them. This is the key to truly popular people: they're not afraid to be around new people.

• You don't have to be cheerful to be popular. Unfortunately, shy people get a bad reputation for being rude or aloof. If you're too shy to start a conversation with a new person, at least try to smile and be friendly when the person approaches you.
• You don't need to be introverted or think that you should avoid some people because of their social status or reputation. Everyone you can talk to as long as the person is kind and considerate.

Step 7. Have an interest in other people

If you really want to be popular, then you have to show people that you're interested in them too, not always talk about yourself. You can still open up to others while paying attention when talking about what their interests are, how their lives are, and what they are up to in the near future. When you hang out with other people, make sure they talk at least half of the time, and that you don't dominate the conversation. Ask about subjects, pets, siblings, what sports they enjoy, or anything they enjoy talking about. You can show that you are genuinely interested in them, not just bragging about yourself.

• While it's important to be open to other people for socializing, make sure that other person has the opportunity to open up too.
• You don't have to ask too many questions at once. You don't want people to feel like they're being interrogated. Ask enough questions to show that you care.

Part 3 of 3: Get Active

Step 1. Be actively involved in school activities

While there aren't as many ways to get involved in school activities in 5th grade compared to middle or high school, you can still find ways to be active. You can join a foreign language club, or even a student organization. Many people want to be known as school president or other position in the organization, and you can try that if you feel it's right for you. You can also help your teachers after school, or find other ways to make your presence known at school.

The more activities you participate in, the more people will get to know you, and the more opportunities to meet new people

Step 2. Be actively involved in the community

Another way that you can get actively involved is to help the community around you. While there isn't much to do in 5th grade, you can help your neighbor keep the house clean, take the dog for a walk, help clean the garden, or sell cakes with your parents. If you go to church or other places of worship, you can find a way to be actively involved in the community that way. If you help the local community, you will be recognized by more people.

Helping the local community will also introduce you to people of different ages and different walks of life. This will help you achieve fame and feel proud of yourself

Step 3. Get actively involved in sports

If you are interested in sports and want to try to be part of a team, it can be great to be active in sports such as cheerleading, football, volleyball, baseball, tennis, or any other sport in your school or community. You don't have to be the world's best athlete to be actively involved in a sport, and being part of a sports team will help you learn how to work with others, develop communication skills, and find your place when working in a group. Everyone can exercise. While it's not mandatory, being actively involved in a sport can help you be more active and more popular, if you feel confident about doing it.

Don't be shy if you don't feel athletic about taking part in a sport. Give it a try and see if you've found one that fits. If you don't like football, for example, try baseball. And if you're not into any kind of sport, try something else, like painting or playing the guitar, which might be more fun for you

Step 4. Find different friends

If you want to be a real social being, then you have to be actively involved with the different kinds of people in your life. Try not to be friends with just one type of person; instead, make friends, or at least be friendly, with people who like sports, are computer savvy, or are shy. The more types of friends you have, the more comfortable you will be in any social situation, and the more famous and popular you will be.

• Dare to get acquainted with people on a different level. People at lower levels can ask you questions, and people in grade 6 can give you tips on how to survive at higher levels.
• Don't limit yourself to just your school. Make friends with neighbors, people on sports teams, or people from other schools. This will help you thrive and be comfortable with different types of people.

Step 5. Help others

If a friend needs help, you have to help them. If you study hard, you can help them study for exams and help your friends with their homework. Offer to help and be a good person. Don't be evil. Remember, being popular doesn't mean you can do bad things. Never command others and always help others.

• Always volunteer or audition for school plays, performing arts, and so on.
