Most modern telephones now have a reverse look up that allows you to locate the caller, but this is not always possible. Here are instructions on how to trace the location of a phone number.
Step
Step 1. Describe your own caller's phone number
The digits of the telephone number correspond to the specific location where the mobile phone is registered. By dividing a cell phone number into four parts, you can define a “general caller location,” such as the country or city where the phone number is located..
-
Describe "Country Code." This number is the very first, before the three-digit area code. As an example,
Step 1. (021) 444-3333. This number states the country of origin of the caller. If this part of the number does not appear, it means that the caller is in the same country as the recipient of the call. A complete list of country codes can be found on the internet.
- Describe "Area Code." This is a series of three digits in a phone number. For example, 1 (021) 444-3333). This area code will provide the most specific information of the location of the phone number. You can find out the general location of the caller (province, city or part of the city) listed. A complete list of area codes can be found on the internet.
- Describe "Prefix." This is a series of three digits after the area code. For example, 1 (021) 444-3333. This number is also known as the "switchboard" telephone number that is sent. This figure will guide you to a specific company switchboard. This list of numbers is not available because the switchboard method is obsolete, and phone numbers can be brought up when changing telephone service suppliers.
- Describe "Channel Number." These are the last four digits of the phone number. For example, 1 (021) 444- 3333. This number indicates the level on the switchboard that is called. Again, this method is deprecated and a complete list is not available as it relies on area codes and prefixes.
Step 2. Look for the "Phone Number Locator" site
This method will usually give you the city, the telephone service provider, and whether the number is from a landline or cellular. Many phone number locator sites claim to also be able to provide the address of a phone number. Be careful if the site asks you to join or pays money to obtain information, and there is no guarantee that you will be able to access the information offered.
- Find the site "Phone Number Locator." You can find many sites that provide basic information without registering or paying through Google
-
Type in the full 10 digits of the phone number, or just 9 digits without the country code.
You will need to include the area code to find the city the caller is in.
Step 3. Google the phone number
This method sometimes works and sometimes fails because it relies on the idea that a possible phone number is listed on the internet by a company or someone.
-
Search on Google using the proper format.
Type in a 10-digit phone number in the format: "X(XXX)XXX-XXXX".
-
The results will appear.
Search results may appear in two ways:
- If the number matches exactly what is listed on the internet, the phone number will appear with the business or number owner's name on the website where the information is listed.
- If the numbers don't match exactly, the result will appear with “Phone Number Search Results” and Google will provide the general location of the phone number from the previous step.
Step 4. Call back the number
If all else fails, call back the number for information. Find the name of the person or company in the voicemail. You can then use that information to locate the phone number on the internet
Tips
- There may be other additional ways to trace a phone number regardless of your country of residence. contact your telephone service supplier for domestic telephone number information.
- Sometimes the caller ID screen shows the name of the caller, and sometimes the location as well. Don't trust this information too much, unless you know the number and call it frequently.
Warning
- If the phone number appears as " withheld ", you won't be able to find its location.
- Hurry up to decipher area codes, country codes, prefixes, and phone number suffixes. Don't let the caller wait long while you decipher who the caller is.
- If a potential criminal offense is taking place over the phone for you (eg threats, kidnapping, etc.), contact the appropriate authorities immediately.
