As a new Tinder user, you can use the app to find a true soul mate or just have fun. Whatever the reason, you can start that search through Tinder. This free app has become popular since its release in 2012 and is used by users of all ages (you don't have to worry, users under 18 can only get matches with other users who are not older than 18). For existing and new users, having an attractive profile is the best way to maximize match count and enjoy Tinder.

Step 1. Connect the Tinder app with your Facebook
You will be asked to do this when you create your Tinder account. This step is important because many dating sites are filled with fake accounts and scammers. Tinder reduces the number of fake and fraudulent account creations by requiring its users to link their social media accounts. This rule makes creating fake accounts more difficult because the creator has to create a Facebook account every time they create a Tinder account.
Step 2. Check the photos you are using
By default Tinder will use your Facebook photos. Even so, the photo is not necessarily suitable for use on Tinder. For example, you will be hard to spot if a friend of the same gender as you is in the same photo. Keep in mind that Facebook photos will generally only be seen by people who already know you and Tinder photos are intended for people who don't know you yet.
Step 3. Upload a photo from Facebook
Unfortunately, you can't upload photos directly from your phone. You can only use photos that have already been uploaded to Facebook. If you want to use a photo but don't want it to appear on Facebook, change the permissions to "Only Me". You can also upload a photo to Facebook and delete it immediately after making it a Tinder photo. Deleting photos on Facebook will not affect your Tinder profile.
Step 4. Choose a flattering photo
A flattering photo makes a big difference! The quality of a particular camera or shooting angle can determine how "sexy" or "creepy" the photos you take are.
- Avoid using selfies or photos taken using a laptop camera or with your own hands. Photos like this will generally make you look wild and childish. While there's nothing wrong with taking a photo of yourself, Tinder isn't the place for that kind of photo.
- Don't use photos when you're with an ex.
- Watch your facial expressions. In general you just smile in a friendly manner. Keep in mind that other users will judge your photos without a second thought. A "pensive" pose will give the impression of being manipulated, a duckface will appear "childish and obnoxious", and a photo of a blurry face in a hat and sunglasses will give an "I know myself and don't want to be seen" impression. Don't be afraid to show your face.
- If you have a photo of a face or portrait taken by a professional photographer, use it. Photographers know how to take the best photos.
- You can use Photoshop to add an airbrush effect or increase brightness. Use Photoshop sufficiently so that the effects used do not look too obvious and your face is not much different from the original.
- Ask a friend you trust when in doubt. They can help determine the most appropriate photo. Make sure the friend you ask for help is someone who isn't afraid to say which photos are interesting and which are not!
Step 5. Make sure other people can recognize you through the photos you use
Although it doesn't need to be discussed, many lose matches because users are difficult to identify through the photos they use.
- The first Tinder photo you use is the one that will appear when other users find your profile. Make sure it's only you in the photo. Try using a face photo, but any flattering photo that clearly shows your face is a good choice.
- Limit the use of “action photos”. Snowboarding or playing music with friends may look cool, but you'll be hard to spot if all the photos you're using are only showing you from afar. Insert a photo or two that shows your interest in something, but make sure there's also a photo that shows your face. Make sure your profile includes at least two photos that show you from the shoulders up.
- Don't use blurry photos! Blurred photos can damage your profile. The effort expended will be in vain if you cannot be recognized by the photo.
- Be careful when using photos in groups. It's possible that other users will have a hard time finding you. Limit the number of people in the photo to three and make sure you have enough photos alone to make them easier to identify in group photos.
Step 6. Think carefully when filling out your bio
The bio field is initially blank and you have to fill it out yourself.
- Keep your bio short and clear. Don't write down your entire life history. Those who are interested will swipe the screen to the right. You can also add funny quotes and some important facts about you.
- Make a compelling presentation. Listing “San Francisco → NYU” is much shorter than “I was born in San Francisco but went to study at New York University.” Short and clear.
- Even so, you can talk about the things you really like. Talking about rock climbing and mountain climbing, for example, can help you find a partner who shares similar interests. Having interests and hobbies can give you more value in the eyes of other users.
- Avoid spoiling your entire personal life. Avoid telling too much about you, where you work, or especially your past love history.
- You can explain what you want in your potential partner. This way you can save time when searching for and interacting with matches. If you explain that you're looking for a serious relationship, users who only want a casual relationship will skip your profile straight away.
- Once that's done, your profile will more or less have a bio that says: "DC's move to Georgia Tech batch '11. Work in Banks. Loved the drums and dogs. Looking for a casual and fun relationship.” Make sentences that are creative but don't contain lies.
Step 7. When you're done creating your profile, ask a friend to rate it
Try asking a friend of the opposite sex for help if you are looking for a match of the opposite sex. It's possible they know something you don't.
