One alternative way of tying a tie with a four finger knot is the “Half Windsor” knot. This knot is larger, resembling a triangle, and is considered to be sleeker than the four-finger knot (but not as sharp as the regular Windsor knot). Many people prefer the Half Windsor knot because it is not as thick as a regular Windsor knot.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Half Windsor Knot Version 1
Step 1. Stand in front of a mirror and wrap your tie around your collar
Adjust the tie so that the wide end is about 25-30 cm lower than the small end.
Step 2. Twist the wide end around the small end
Pull the wide end in front of the smaller end, then pull back behind it so that it forms a loop.
Step 3. Tuck the wide end into the neck loop of the tie
Start by taking the wide end, then fold it and thread it into the loop between your tie and collar.
Step 4. Cross the wide end with the small end
Take the wide end and make a cross in front of the small end of the tie from right to left.
Step 5. Insert the wide end of the tie into the neck loop of the tie
Pull the wide end up through the loop between your collar and the knot of the tie.
Step 6. Finish the knot
Pull the wide end of the tie through the front of the knot. Tighten and trim the tie so that the knot is symmetrical.
Step 7. Trim the tie
Tighten the tie around your collar by pulling on the small end of the tie, which is behind the wide end of the tie. If there is a hook hole behind the wide end of the tie, you can insert the small end into it so that the small end of the tie is covered by the wide end of the tie.
Method 2 of 2: Half Windsor Knot Version 2
Step 1. Lift your collar and loop the tie around your neck
Adjust the tie so that the wide end is on your dominant side and longer than the other, and the fold is facing your body.
Step 2. Cross the wide end of the tie with the small end
A cross is made in front of the small end of the tie, leaving the remaining part of the tie to make a knot.
Step 3. Cross the wide end back behind the small end until the tie is not facing your body
Make both ends of the tie criss-cross just below the previously made cross.
Step 4. Take the wide end of the tie
Insert it into the neck loop and pull. Hold the wide end of the tie by your dominant side.
Step 5. Cross the wide end of the tie in front of the tie to make a knot
Step 6. Move the wide end of the tie behind the neck loop and thread it into the neck loop from below
Step 7. Thread the wide end of the tie into a knot and pull it tight
To tighten, pull the small end of the tie while extending the wide end of the tie. Trim your tie then fold back your collar. Your appearance is already neat!
