This wikiHow teaches you how to add a missing (or unavailable) place address to Google Maps. You can do this through the mobile version of Google Maps and the desktop version. If you own a business that you want to add to Google Maps, first register your business with Google so that its location can be added to Google Maps.

Method 1 of 2: Via Mobile App
Step 1. Open Google Maps
Tap the Google Maps icon, which looks like a location marker on a map. After that, the map view will be opened.
If prompted, select an account or enter the email address and password for the account before proceeding to the next step
Step 2. Touch the button
It's in the top-left corner of the screen. After that, a pop-out menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Tap on Add a missing place option
You can see this option at the bottom of the menu. After that, you will be taken to the “Add a place” page.
Step 4. Enter the place name
Tap the " Name " field at the top of the screen, then type in the name of the place you want to add.
You will need to spell the name of the place according to the name that you want to appear on the map
Step 5. Enter the address of the place
Tap the " Address " field and type in the address of the place. Make sure you include the name of the city, province/region, and postal code if necessary.
The more information you include, the faster Google will verify the existence of the place you want to add
Step 6. Select a place category
Touch the " Category " field and touch the category that corresponds to the place you added.
You can search for a more specific category by typing the category keyword in the text field
Step 7. Enter additional information
You can enter additional (optional) information about the place:
- “ Phone number ” (phone number) – Touch the “field Phone ”, then type in the phone number of the place you added.
- “ Website ” (website) – Touch column “ Website ”, then enter the address of the website where it was added.
- “ Hours ” (hours of operation) – Touch column “ Add hours ”, select the day of operation, and add the opening and closing hours of the place by touching the option “ SET OPEN AND CLOSE HOURS ”, then select the appropriate operating hours. Once you've added at least one day of the week, you can add more hours of operation for different days by tapping the link “ ADD HOURS ”.
Step 8. Touch SEND
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. After that, the request for additional places will be sent to Google. You will receive an email regarding the acceptance or rejection of the application within two weeks.
On some Android phones, tap the paper airplane icon in the upper-right corner of the screen instead of the “ SEND ”.
Method 2 of 2: Via Desktop Site
Step 1. Open Google Maps
Visit https://www.google.com/maps in a browser. Once signed in to Google Maps, you can add places from this website.
If you are not logged into your account, click the link “ Sign in ” in the upper-right corner of the page and enter your Google email address and password before continuing.
Step 2. Click the button
It's in the top-left corner of the page. After that, a new menu will appear on the left side of the window.
Step 3. Click Add a missing place
This link is at the bottom of the pop-out menu. Once clicked, an "Add a place" window will appear in the top-left corner of the page.
Step 4. Enter the place name
Click the " Name " field at the top of the " Add a place " window, then type in the name of the place you want to add to the map.
Step 5. Add the address of the place
In the "Address" field, type the address of the place. This address must include the city, province/region, and postal code if applicable.
Step 6. Select the place's directory
Click the " Category " column, then select the appropriate place category (eg “ Restaurant ”) in the drop-down menu.
You can search for a more specific category by typing the category entry in the text field
Step 7. Add other information about the place
You can add additional information as follows:
- “ Phone number ” (phone number) – Click column “ Phone ”, then type in the phone number of the place you want to add.
- “ Website ” (website) – Click column “ Website ” and enter the address of the website where you added it.
- “ Hours ” (hours of operation) – Click the link “ Add hours ”, select the day of operation, and add the opening and closing hours of the venue. You can click the link again “ Add hours ” to add hours of operation for different days if necessary.
Step 8. Click the Submit button
It's a blue button in the lower-right corner of the "Add a place" window. As long as the added place is not yet shown on Google Maps, a request to add a place will be sent to Google. You will receive an email confirming acceptance or rejection of your space application within a few weeks.
- If the added place is already on the map, you'll see a pop-up window showing the place and its address.
- If you see a pop-up window telling you that the place you want to add is in the wrong place/address, click “ SUBMIT ANYWAY ”.
