Dancing is an activity that is also a form of exercise. Dance requires not only a pretty face, but a lot of practice and hard work. However, if you have talent, confidence, and patience, you can achieve anything. Dance doesn't care who you are or your background. If you feel called, follow the voice. Dance engages passion, relaxes you, and is true to yourself. Even if you can't dance perfectly, you have to dance with love. If you like to dance, you will be able to dance well, in your heart. See Step 1 to get started.
Step
Step 1. Make sure you really want to do it
Dancing takes a lot of passion and dedication, either as a hobby or if you aspire to be a professional dancer. If you want to make a career as a dancer, you may need to cut back on other sports or after-school activities to get enough time to practice. Remember that dancing is also a sport and requires a lot of physical endurance.
Step 2. Decide what kind of dance you enjoy doing
You are free to choose traditional dance, ballet, tap, jazz, swing, lyrical, contemporary, acro, hip hop, break-dance, modern or belly dance. However, make sure you choose the type of dance that suits your style.
Step 3. Find the guide
Watch music videos and see the movements of the dancers, buy interesting video lessons, read dance instructions in books and the internet, watch YouTube tutorials, find a dance teacher, ask for tips from friends/professional dancers, etc. Dancing is hard, but with hard work and dedication, you will become a good dancer.
Step 4. Do the experiment
Stand in front of a mirror at body height, play music and body movements. Or, use a dance studio that can be rented. Practice various movements in different parts of the body. Make sure the transition from one movement to another is smooth. Also, do stretches and don't let the muscles get cold. Lack of stretching can cause muscles to pull.
Step 5. Find a dance school
Dance schools range from youth centers to more intense independent schools. If you plan to dance during your high school and college years to become a professional dancer, you will need to choose a more intense dance school. Talk to other dancers and dance teachers from each school to choose the best school.
Step 6. Take as many dance classes as you can
Remember that you must learn the basics of dance, such as traditional dance or classical ballet, to learn other types of dance. You don't have to take every class offered, but you can take more. Talk to a dance teacher and ask for advice and an assessment of your level of ability. The more you practice, the better your progress will be. If you can't afford dance school, buy dance instruction DVDs that teach dance techniques. However, if you plan to become a professional dancer, you should study at a reputable school.
Step 7. Stretch
Stretching is very important in the world of dance. The more often you stretch, the better your flexibility will be. Stretch every day during your workout, but you should also stretch every morning or before bed to improve flexibility. Make sure you're warm enough so you don't get hurt. If there is enough space, install bars on the walls, preferably in a room with wooden floors. A perfect floor is not mandatory, but it supports better stretch.
Step 8. Practice
Once you have your own dance style, take dance classes, and choose the moves that look the best, you have to physically make them happen. It's best to dance freestyle in your own room, and when you've reached your average level, join a dance program at school.
Step 9. Take care of your mental and physical health
Dance is a sport that demands energy. You must eat healthy, have a balanced diet, and get enough fluids. If you feel overwhelmed, talk to your dance teacher and ask if you can leave one of the classes.
Step 10. Enter a dance competition
Once you've learned enough and have acquired a new skill, try putting your skills to the test. Champion or not, you've won because you managed to devote time and effort to achieve your dreams.
Step 11. Balance the schedule
You can dance up to four hours a day, but remember to set the time. Make sure you have enough time and energy to do your homework every night. Schedule time to hang out with close friends who don't take dance classes with you. Time in a dancer's life is very short, but remember that you must remain a complete human being. However, if you don't plan on becoming a professional dancer and just dancing for fun, you don't need to devote a lot of time to practice.
Step 12. Speak
If you don't understand a dance, don't be shy about asking for help. You won't understand it just by standing in the corner. Talk to a dance teacher if you're having trouble, they'll be able to help you.
Step 13. Know that dancing is hard
Learn to distinguish "good" and "bad" pain. Dancing is not easy, but it is not always painful. Dancing should be fun. If you don't enjoy it anymore, stop. There's no point in dancing if you're already unhappy or looking forward to doing something else.
Step 14. Don't just move
You have to feel and follow the music. If your dance is cheerful or happy, smile and make some passionate moves. If your dance is sad or emotional, move at a slower pace and use facial expressions to guide your body. Feeling will make performance better.
Step 15. Maintain confidence
Rest assured you can do it. Imagine yourself as a brilliant dancer.
Step 16. Create passion
The best dancers in the world don't become great because of the right technique. They have a high passion for dancing and decide to train hard, devote dedication, and face pain to become the best dancers. If this is what you want, do it with all your heart.
Step 17. Never give up a dream
If you want to be a hip hop dancer, but feel uncool, don't stop. Your dedication now could change your life forever.
Tips
- Don't be intimidated by older or high-level dancers. If you worry about their opinion, you will be distracted from the goal.
- If you're still in school, try getting into dancing or drama. Try asking for advice or joining a school dance club first as they are usually free. However, after that, join other dance clubs and schools.
- Make friends with the people you take dance classes with. That way, practice and dance in pairs won't feel awkward, and if you're taking part in a competition or show, it's even more exciting if you have friends to support and chat with.
- If a given dance costume is uncomfortable, ask the director for a new one. If your costume is inappropriate, you don't need to wear it. However, if the problem is simply that it doesn't suit your style or it's ugly, you should wear it.
- Respect the instructor's thoughts. Everything he says will only make you better.
- Watch your body. Dancing is a very challenging activity, but don't get hurt.
- Listen to your favorite songs so when you hear them, you'll automatically dance to the beat of the music.
- Dance school is not mandatory. You can become a great dancer without professional training.
- Use your own style. Don't copy other dancers, create your own style. Be a unique dancer.
- Watch dancing videos or how to dance. Imitate what is shown and once more proficient, try to do without a tutorial.
Warning
- If you have a busy schedule, you may miss other activities, such as school or other activities. Consider this before attending dance school.
- The stress of being a dancer can usually cause problems in the short and long term. Some examples are skin blisters, sore feet, broken bones / sprains, eating disorders, etc. Do not ever give up.
- Don't train too hard as it may have a negative impact on your health. The best option is to practice slowly and gradually.
