Is your computer starting to “act up”? Do pop-up windows keep appearing on the screen, even when you're not browsing the internet? If so, there is a possibility that your computer is infected with a Trojan Horse.
Step
Step 1. Open the Add/Remove Programs and Task Manager program, then look for the application that you have never installed
- Add/Remove Programs can be accessed by clicking on the “Start” -> “Settings” -> “Control Panel” menu.
- The Task Manager can be accessed by right-clicking the workbar or task bar (shown at the bottom of the screen) and selecting “Task Manager”.
Step 2. Find out about any program you don't recognize through a search engine
Step 3. Press “Winkey” and “R” keys simultaneously, type “regedit”, click “HKEY_CURRENT_USER”, “Software”, “Microsoft”, “Windows”, “CurrentVersion”, and “Run”
Look for unknown program names and use Google to find out information about those programs. This window displays all the programs that run automatically when you turn on the computer. After that, check “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”, “Software”, “Microsoft Windows”, “CurrentVersion”, “Run” and delete unwanted program entries.
Step 4. Look for security or technology websites in the search results that may provide information regarding whether the application/program you found is malicious or not
Step 5. Use a search engine to search for the name of the specific Trojan Horse found, and look for instructions to remove it
Step 6. If the Trojan Horse removal instructions don't work, switch the computer with an antivirus and anti-spyware program
Step 7. If you don't have a virus scanner or surveillance software program, search the internet for a free antivirus or anti-spyware program like AVG
Step 8. Your computer is now free from Trojan Horse attacks
Tips
- Some types of Trojans will be re-installed automatically after being removed. Double-check for the presence of programs or viruses after deleting to make sure they are completely removed!
- After removing the Trojan Horse, it is a good idea to look for a new antivirus program if the program you are currently using is unable to detect the Trojan Horse.
