This wikiHow teaches you how to add music to an iPod using iTunes on a computer, or buy and download music from the iTunes Store app on an iPod.

Method 1 of 3: Sending Music from iTunes
Step 1. Open iTunes on the computer
This app icon looks like a colorful musical note on a white background and colorful rings around it.
If iTunes prompts you to download the latest version, download it
Step 2. Connect iPod to computer
Use the iPod cable to connect one end of the USB cable to the computer port and the other end to the iPod charging port.
If the automatic sync feature is enabled in iTunes, new music will be sent directly to the iPod when iTunes is opened and the device is connected to the computer
Step 3. Click the media drop-down menu
It's in the top-left corner of the screen, next to the iPod icon.
Step 4. Click Music
This button is the first option displayed in the menu.
Step 5. Click "Library"
In the “Library” section of the left pane of the iTunes window, there are several categories you can choose from to view the music stored in your library:
- “ Recently Added ” (music recently added to library)
- “ Artists (music by artist)
- “ Albums (music by album)
- “ Songs (music as a whole, usually by title)
- “ Genres (music by genre)
Step 6. Click and drag the music content to the iPod
Drag a song or album from the library on the right side of the window to the iPod icon in the left pane of the iTunes window, under the "Devices" section.
- A blue rectangle will surround the iPod icon.
- You can select multiple pieces of content by clicking on them while holding down Ctrl (PC) or Command (Mac).
Step 7. Drop songs to iPod
Release the mouse or trackpad buttons to send music to the iPod.
Step 8. Wait for the music to finish sending
When you're done, you can disconnect your iPod from your desktop computer.
Look for submitted music in the Music app, under the "Downloaded Music" tab in your music library ("Library")
Method 2 of 3: Buying Music from the iTunes Store App
Step 1. Open the iTunes Store app
This app is marked by a purple icon with white musical notes in a white circle.
The device must be connected to a WiFi network if you wish to use this method
Step 2. Find the desired music
You can search for music in several ways:
- Touch " Search " It's a magnifying glass icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.
- Follow these steps if you want to search for a specific song, artist, or genre. Tap the " Search " field at the top of the screen. Type a title, artist, or search keyword into the field, then tap the result you're looking for.

Touch " Music " It's a musical note icon in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Follow these steps if you want to browse the available songs, albums, artists, ringtones, and genres in the iTunes Store
Step 3. Touch the price of the content
To download a song or album, touch the price of the content shown next to the title.
Step 4. Touch BUY (MEDIA)
This button is displayed in the same place as the price button. After that, the content purchase will be confirmed. Purchased music will be downloaded to the iPod.
Look for music that has been purchased in the Music application, precisely on the "Downloaded Music" tab in the music library ("Library")
Method 3 of 3: Downloading Previously Purchased Music
Step 1. Open the iTunes Store app
This app is marked by a purple icon with white musical notes in a white circle.
The device must be connected to a WiFi network if you wish to use this method
Step 2. Touch More
It's an ellipsis icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Touch
Purchased.
Step 4. Touch the Music option
Step 5. Touch Not on This iPod
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 6. Touch the artist or song title
Music will be displayed alphabetically by artist.
Step 7. Touch
This button is to the right of the song or album that you have purchased and want to download.
- The music or video will be downloaded to the iPod.
- Look for music that has been purchased in the Music application, precisely on the "Downloaded Music" tab in the music library ("Library").
