6 Ways to Add Songs to Your Music Library

This wikiHow teaches you how to add songs to your music collection stored on your computer or phone. You can add songs by importing them from an audio CD (compact disc) on your computer or purchasing songs through the music player (music player or program that plays songs) installed on your computer or phone.

Method 1 of 6: Using Audio CDs on Windows

Step 1. Insert the audio CD into the computer

Make sure the position of the CD logo is on top when the CD is inserted into the disc drive (disc drive).

If the autoplay window appears on the screen, you can skip this step and proceed to the "Click option. step" Import ".

Step 2. Open the Start menu

Click the Windows logo at the bottom left of the screen.

Step 3. Open File Explorer

Click the icon in the form of a directory (folder) at the bottom left of the Start menu window.

Step 4. Click This PC

It's a computer icon and is on the left side of the File Explorer window.

Step 5. Click the disc drive

You will see a gray box containing the CD icon in the " Devices and drives " section.

Step 6. Click Manage

This tab is in the upper-left side of the window. Clicking on the tab will bring up a toolbar at the top of the window.

Step 7. Click Autoplay

This option is in the " Media " section of the toolbar.

Step 8. Click the Import option

The computer's default (default) music player will open and begin importing songs from the CD.

Step 9. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen

Depending on the music player you are using, you may have to confirm that you want to import the CD or select a directory where the songs are saved.

Step 10. Wait for the import process to complete

When the music player finishes importing songs from the CD, you can eject the CD from the computer. After that, the song can be played on the computer.

Method 2 of 6: Using Audio CDs on Mac

Step 1. Open iTunes

Click the iTunes icon, which looks like a colorful note in front of a white background. You can usually find this icon in the Dock.

It's a good idea to have your computer connected to the internet when importing songs from a CD. Otherwise, songs imported from CDs may not have the correct information, such as musician name, song name, song order, and so on

Step 2. Insert the audio CD into the disc drive

Most Macs don't come with a disc drive. Therefore, you may have to purchase an external disc drive and connect it to the computer.

Step 3. Click the CD icon

You'll find this icon at the top left of the window.

Step 4. Click Yes when prompted

After clicking this button, iTunes will start importing songs from the CD.

You can also click the button No, uncheck the songs you don't want to import, and then click Import CD.

Step 5. Wait for the songs to finish importing

Once the import is complete, you can click the blue and white " Eject " button at the top right of the page to eject the CD from your computer and save the song.

Method 3 of 6: Using Groove on Windows

Step 1. Open the Start menu

Click the Windows logo at the bottom left of the screen.

Step 2. Type groove in the search field available in the Start menu

This is done to find a music player named Groove Music on the computer.

Step 3. Click Groove

It's at the top of the Start window. After clicking on the program, a Groove window will open.

Step 4. Click Settings

It's a gear icon and is in the lower-left side of the Groove window. After clicking on the icon, the Settings page will open.

Step 5. Click Choose where we look for music

This link is in the " Music on this PC " section near the top of the page.

Step 6. Click +

It's in the middle of the page. After clicking the button, a File Explorer window will open and you can choose a music directory.

Step 7. Choose a directory

Click the directory that contains the music you want to add to Groove. You can find the directory on the left side of the File Explorer window.

Step 8. Click Add this folder to Music

It's in the lower-right side of the window.

Step 9. Click Done

You can find this button at the bottom right of the Groove page. After clicking the button, your song will be uploaded to Groove.

You can't buy music through Groove. However, you can purchase a "Groove Music Pass" which allows you to download the songs available on Groove. To purchase the "Groove Music Pass", click Try a Music Pass at the bottom left of the window and select Start trial when requested. After that, enter your credit card information if prompted. However, as of January 1, 2018 Microsoft is discontinuing the Groove Music Pass service. As such, you will not be able to listen to, purchase, or download songs from the Groove Music Pass. Once you've downloaded your purchased song, you can keep playing it.

Method 4 of 6: Using iTunes on Mac

Step 1. Open iTunes

Click the iTunes icon, which looks like a colorful note in front of a white background. You can usually find this icon in the Dock.

Step 2. Click File

It's in the upper-left side of the screen. After clicking the option, a drop-down menu will appear on the screen.

Step 3. Click Add Files to Library… (Add Files to Library.

..). You can find this option in the drop-down menu. After clicking on the option, a Finder window will open.

Step 4. Select the directory where the music is stored

Click the directory where the music you want to add to your computer is stored. You can find the directory on the left side of the Finder window.

Step 5. Select the music you want to add

Click and drag the cursor to select multiple songs you want to import or hold down Command and click the songs you want to import one by one.

Step 6. Click Open

It's in the lower-right side of the Finder window. After clicking the option, the songs will be added to iTunes.

Step 7. Buy music on iTunes

In addition to adding your own music to iTunes, you can also purchase and download music to your computer in iTunes. Here's how to buy songs on iTunes:

Click tab Shop (Store) on iTunes.
Click the "Search" column in the upper right of the window.
Type in the name of the song or album and press Return.
Click the price of the song or album.
Enter your Apple ID password and then click BUY (Buy).

Step 8. Wait for the music to finish downloading

Any songs you have purchased will be downloaded to iTunes. You can transfer songs to iPhone if you want.

Method 5 of 6: Using iTunes on iPhone

Step 1. Check if the music is saved in iTunes on the computer

Once saved, you can transfer music from iTunes to iPhone without having to buy or download music from the iTunes app installed on iPhone.

If the music is not already saved on the computer, follow this method

Step 2. Open iTunes Store on iPhone

Tap the iTunes Store icon, which looks like a white note in front of a purple background. Usually you can find this application on the iPhone home screen.

Step 3. Tap the Search tab

This option is at the bottom right of the screen.

Step 4. Tap the “Search” column

This column is at the top of the screen.

Step 5. Enter the search keywords

Type in the name of the song, album, or musician. After that tap Search on the iPhone keyboard.

Step 6. Select a filter

Tap Songs or Albums at the top of the page to sort music by song or album.

Step 7. Tap the price column next to the selected music

For example, if you want to buy a song by a famous musician, you have to tap IDR 7ribu ($1.29) which is to the right of the song.

Step 8. Tap BUY SONG or BUY ALBUM when prompted.

This button is green and is located where the price column is.

Step 9. Enter your Apple ID password

Type in the password you use to sign in to your Apple ID account.

If your iPhone has a Touch ID sensor, you can scan your fingerprint to sign in to your Apple ID account

Step 10. Wait for the music to finish downloading

When it's finished downloading, the music will be immediately available on your iPhone.

Method 6 of 6: Using Google Play Music for Android

Step 1. Go to the Google Play Music page

Visit https://music.google.com/ using a browser on your computer. This will open the Google Play Music home page if you are signed in to a Google account. Please note that for now Google Play Music is not yet available in Indonesia. If you live in countries supported by Google Play Music, you can follow these steps to add music.

If you are not logged in to your Google account, click the button Enter located at the top right of the page. After that, enter your email address (email or email) and password.
If you are signed in to more than one Google account, you can click the profile icon at the top right of the page. After that, select the desired account available on the drop-down menu.

Step 2. Click

It's in the top-left side of the page. After clicking the button, a pop-up window (small window containing certain information) will appear on the screen.

Step 3. Click Upload music

It's at the bottom of the pop-up window.

If you haven't set up Google Play Music, click the button NEXT and enter your debit or credit card information. After that, click the button ACTIVATE. This is done only to verify the country you live in. Therefore, the money stored on the credit card or debit card will not decrease.

Step 4. Click SELECT FROM YOUR COMPUTER

It's at the bottom of the page. After clicking the button, a File Explorer (for Windows) or Finder (for Mac) window will open.

Step 5. Select the music directory

Click the directory where the music is stored in the left-hand side of the window.

Step 6. Select the music you want to add

Click and drag the cursor to select multiple songs you want to add or press and hold Ctrl (for Windows) or Command (for Mac) and click songs to select them one by one.

Step 7. Click Open

It's at the bottom of the window. After clicking the button, the selected music will start uploading to Google Play Music. Once done, you can play the uploaded song using the Google Play Music app.
