This wikiHow teaches you how to add music from your computer to your Android phone or tablet. You can add music by uploading it directly to the Google Play Music website, or using a Windows or Mac computer to send it directly to your device.

Method 1 of 3: Using Google Play Music
Step 1. Open the Google Play Music page on your computer
Visit https://music.google.com/ in a web browser on your computer. After that, the main Google Play Music page will be displayed if you are already signed in to your Google account.
- If you are not logged into your Google account, click the link “ Sign in ” in the upper-right corner of the page, then enter your email address and password.
- If you're signed in to more than one Google account, click the profile icon in the upper-right corner of the page and select the account you want to use from the drop-down menu.
Step 2. Click
It's in the top-left corner of the page. After that, a pop-out window will appear on the left side of the browser window.
Step 3. Click Upload music
It's at the bottom of the pop-out window. After that, you will be taken to the Google Play Music upload page.
If you haven't set up a Google Play Music account, click “ NEXT ”, enter your debit or credit card information, and click “ ACTIVATE ” before moving on to the next step. You won't be charged anything as this step is done only to verify the country of origin.
Step 4. Click SELECT FROM YOUR COMPUTER
It's at the bottom of the page. After that, a File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window will appear.
Step 5. Select the desired music folder
Click the music storage folder on the left side of the window. You may need to double-click an additional folder in the main window to find the music collection folder.
Step 6. Select the music you want to add
Click and drag the mouse over the contents of the music folder to select songs, or hold down Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) and click songs to select them individually.
Step 7. Click Open
It's at the bottom of the window. After that, the selected music will be uploaded to Google Play Music. Once that's done, you can play the uploaded song using the Google Play Music app.
Method 2 of 3: Sending Music Files on a Windows Computer
Step 1. Connect Android device to computer
Use the charging cable to connect the device to one of the computer's USB ports.
If the device prompts you to select a connection type, select “ Media devices (MTP) ” is displayed on the screen before proceeding to the next step.
Step 2. Open the “Start” menu
Click the Windows logo in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 3. Open File Explorer app
Click the folder icon in the lower-left corner of the “Start” window.
Step 4. Go to the music collection folder
Open the music storage folder by clicking the folder on the left side of the File Explorer window. You may need to double-click an additional folder in the main File Explorer window to enter the music folder.
Step 5. Select the music you want to add to the device
Click and drag the mouse over the music you want to select to mark it, or press and hold the Ctrl key while clicking specific songs to mark them individually.
Step 6. Click the Home tab
It's in the upper-left corner of the File Explorer window. After that, a new toolbar will be displayed under the tab “ Home ”.
Step 7. Click Copy to
This option is indicated by a folder icon located in the " Organize " section of the toolbar. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 8. Click Choose location
It's in the bottom row of the drop-down menu.
Step 9. Click the Android device name
This folder is usually shown in a pop-up window. After that, the folder will open so that the files in the folder are displayed.
You may need to swipe up to see the device name
Step 10. Click the “Music” folder
This folder is shown below the main Android folder that has been opened.
Step 11. Click Copy
It's at the bottom of the window. After that, the selected music will be copied to the Android device.

Step 12. Disconnect Android device from computer safely
This is done to ensure that you can safely disconnect your device from your computer after the music copying process is complete.
Method 3 of 3: Sending Music Files on a Mac Computer
Step 1. Connect Android device to Mac computer
Use the charging cable to connect the device to one of the computer's USB ports.
- If your Mac doesn't have a USB port, you'll need to purchase a USB-C or USB-3.0 adapter cable.
- If the device asks you to select a connection type, select “ Media devices (MTP) ” is displayed on the screen before proceeding to the next step.
Step 2. Open a browser on the computer
Since Android doesn't automatically sync with Mac computers, you'll need to download an official program to allow your device to connect and sync with Mac computers.
Step 3. Visit the Android File Transfer page
Go to https://www.android.com/filetransfer/. After that, the program download page will open.
Step 4. Click the DOWNLOAD NOW button
It's a green button in the middle of the page. After that, the Android File Transfer installation file will be downloaded.
You may need to confirm the download and specify a save location for the file, depending on your browser settings
Step 5. Install the Android File Transfer program
To install it, you need to double-click the DMG file, verify the file in the “System Preferences” window (for MacOS Sierra and later), then click and drag the Android File Transfer icon to the “Applications “shortcut.
Step 6. Open Finder app
This application is marked by a blue face icon in the computer's Dock.
Step 7. Go to the music storage folder
Click the music storage folder on the left side of the Finder window. You may need to click on additional folders in the main Finder window to view your music collection.
Step 8. Select the music you want to add to the device
Click and drag the mouse over the music to select it, or press and hold the Command key while clicking specific songs to bookmark them individually.
Step 9. Click the Edit button
It's in the upper-left corner of your computer screen. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 10. Click Copy

Step 11. Open the Android File Transfer program
After that, you'll be able to see a list of folders on your Android device (one of which is labeled "Music") in the Android File Transfer window.
Step 12. Double click the “Music” folder
It's in the middle of the Android File Transfer window. After that, the folder will be opened.
Step 13. Click Edit, then click Paste Items.
