WhatsApp allows you to easily block contacts, whether via the web, iPhone or Android. Once blocked, the contact can't send you messages, see when you were last online, view profile photos, and more. To block a contact, you have to adjust the privacy settings a bit.

Method 1 of 3: iOS
Step 1. Tap on the WhatsApp icon
Step 2. Tap the gear-shaped "Settings" icon in the lower-right corner of the screen
Step 3. Tap Account. "
Step 4. Tap Privacy. "
Step 5. Tap Blocked. "
Step 6. Tap Add New. …"
Step 7. Tap a contact to block it
If you want to unblock a specific contact, tap the contact from the "Blocked contacts" page. After that, swipe to the bottom of the "Contact Info" page, and tap "Unblock this contact"
Method 2 of 3: Android
Step 1. Tap on the WhatsApp icon
Step 2. Tap the menu icon in the form of three stacked dots in the top right corner of the screen
Step 3. Tap Settings. "
Step 4. Tap Account. "
Step 5. Tap Privacy. "
Step 6. Tap on “Blocked Contacts. "
Step 7. Tap the "Add Contact" icon at the top right of the screen
This icon is in the shape of a person with a "+" sign.
Step 8. Tap a contact to block it
- To block multiple contacts, select them individually by tapping the "Add Contact" icon.
- If you want to unblock a specific contact, tap the contact on the "Blocked contacts" page, then select "Unblock (contact name)".
Step 9. Block unknown users (users whose numbers you didn't save) by tapping the "Block" button that appears when that user sends you a message
Currently, you cannot block unknown users before they send a message
Method 3 of 3: WhatsApp Web
Step 1. Visit www.web.whatsapp.com on your computer

Step 2. Tap the WhatsApp icon on your Android phone or iPhone to open the app
Step 3. Open the "WhatsApp Web" option on the phone
Once the app is open, you can use WhatsApp Web or Desktop easily.
- iPhone: Tap the "Settings" icon in the lower right corner of the screen, then tap "WhatsApp Web/Desktop". You will be asked to allow WhatsApp to access the camera. After granting permission, you will be directed to the QR scanner screen.
- Android: Tap the "Chats" tab at the top of the screen, then tap the three-dotted stacked menu icon. After that, select WhatsApp Web. You will be directed to the QR scanner screen.
Step 4. Scan the QR code
Point the QR scanner at the code that appears on the screen. The phone will scan the code automatically.
Step 5. Click OKAY, GOT IT. "
Step 6. Click the menu icon in the form of three stacked dots in the upper left corner of the screen
Step 7. Click Settings. "
Step 8. Click "Blocked
Step 9. Click Add blocked contact. "
Step 10. Click a contact to block it
If you want to unblock a specific contact, click the "X" button next to the contact's name. When prompted, confirm the action by clicking "Unblock"
Tips
- Currently, you cannot block unknown users before they send a message.
- You can't unblock someone else's contact list.
- Once blocked, you can't send messages to contacts you blocked, and vice versa.
- Since being blocked, the contact cannot see your profile photo, name and status updates.
- Online information and last online hours will not be visible to blocked contacts.
- Blocking a specific contact will not remove it from your contact list. The contact will still see your number. To delete a contact completely, you must delete it through the contacts app.
- If you unblock certain contacts, you still can't receive the messages they sent while they were still blocked.
- By paying attention to certain indicators, the owner of the contact can tell if you have blocked them.
- You can still receive messages from contacts blocked in the group. They just can't send you private messages.
