In Pokémon Sun and Moon, Grubbin is a Bug-type Pokémon that evolves into Vikavolt, which has a Bug/Electric type. This article will explain how to evolve Grubbin into all its forms.
Step
Step 1. Get Grubbin
You have a 10% chance of finding Grubbin on Route 1, Route 4, Route 5, and Route 6 so it might take a while. You'll find Grubbin level 3-17, depending on where you're looking.
Net Balls are great for catching Grubbin as they are most effective on insect and water Pokémon. If you're still early in the game, all PokéBalls have a 100% catch rate on Route 1 (this doesn't happen in the later part of the game)
Step 2. Raise Grubbin's level to 20
Since Grubbin is a Bug-type Pokémon, it is very effective against Grass (grass), Dark (darkness), and Psychic (psychic).
- If Grubbin continues to lose battles, turn on Exp. Share (sharers experience), which is in your bag.
- You can also give Rare Candy to Grubbin to increase the level.
- Once Grubbin is level 20, he will evolve into Charjabug.
Step 3. Head to Vast Poni Canyon on Poni Island
This is the last island to explore in the game. You will need to be inside the canyon to evolve the Charjabug.
Step 4. Level up Charjabug in Vast Poni Canyon to evolve into Vikavolt
The method can be applied to all levels except 100 so you can get Vikavolt from level 21.
- In this canyon you will find Fighting type Pokémon such as Machoke, Dark/Flying type (darkness/flying) such as Murkrow, Steel/Flying type (iron/flying) such as Skarmory, Rock type (stone) such as Boldore and Lycanroc, Rock/Fairy (rock/fairy) like Carbink, and Dragon type (dragon) like Jangmo-o. Fight these Pokémon to gain experience and levels.
- You can also give Rare Candy to Charjabug to level up.
Tips
- Since Grubbin's level is quite low, you can use a Nest Ball to make it easier to catch.
- If a Grubbin manages to summon a friend when you try to catch it, defeat one of the Grubbins first before you can throw a PokéBall. Be prepared for a long fight as this can happen several times. This won't happen until you've completed the first exam so you shouldn't have to worry about this if you want Grubbin early in the game.
