While the Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino is delicious and refreshing, it's also very expensive. Now you no longer need to visit Starbucks and can make your own clone version at home, using only the basic ingredients you can buy at the supermarket. This recipe will produce a similar drink with the same taste as a real Mocha Frappucino.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup of very strong flavored cooked coffee
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/3 cup full milk
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
- Whipped cream and extra chocolate syrup for garnish
Step
Step 1. Cook the coffee
You'll only need 1/3 cup of coffee, but make sure your coffee is very thoroughly cooked for that classic mocha taste. Cook dark roasted coffee and add about a teaspoon of ground coffee beans to make sure your coffee is dark enough.
- Alternatively, you can use two shots of espresso instead of coffee. Espresso will produce a drink that is rich in caffeine.
- Or, if you're watching your caffeine intake, use decaffeinated coffee. You can also use chicory for the decaf option.
Step 2. Mix coffee with sugar while still warm
Mixing a tablespoon of sugar with warm coffee will dissolve the sugar, so the final texture of your drink will be smoother and tastier. Stir the sugar in the hot coffee solution until you can no longer see the sugar grains.
Step 3. Mix the milk
Add 1/3 cup cold milk to the coffee and sugar mixture. While milk makes for a delicious, rich-tasting drink, you can still use 1 percent skim milk if that's what you prefer. If you want to experiment, try using half and half.
- As a dairy-free alternative, try using coconut milk. Your drink will have a variety of delicious tropical flavors.
- Or, use almond or cashew milk. The milk produced by nuts has a delicate taste, which will go well with the rich flavors of coffee and chocolate.
Step 4. Mix in the chocolate syrup
Adding 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup will produce a very similar taste to the classic Starbucks Mocha Frappucino. If you are a chocolate lover, you can add another tablespoon.
Step 5. Cool the mixture
Place the coffee, sugar, and milk mixture in the refrigerator to cool it until it's ready to use. Once the mixture has cooled, you can use it. You can store it for up to five days before using it (if that's what you want).
Step 6. Put the ice in the blender
Some blenders have a hard time crushing large ice cubes, so you may want to use crushed ice instead of ice that is still in large cubes. Most importantly, put a cup of ice cubes into the blender.
Step 7. Pour in your drink mix
Take the cooled mixture and remove it from the refrigerator, then pour it over the ice cubes.
Step 8. Mix these ingredients until evenly distributed
You may have to mix it in several sessions to get the smooth texture of Starbucks' Mocha Frappucino. Keep mixing until you get the texture you want.
Step 9. Serve the drink
Pour the drink into a tall glass. Add whipped cream on top and a little chocolate syrup. Add a straw and enjoy your own specialty drink.
Tips
- Personalize your drink. Add things like caramel flavor to spice it up.
