Knowing how to draw lips is a useful skill to have, especially if you like to draw portraits. This tutorial will teach you how to draw lips with just a few easy steps. Let's start!
Step
Method 1 of 2: Woman's Lips
Step 1. Draw three overlapping circles in the imaginary triangle area
Step 2. Create a pea-shaped open area touching the ends of the top and bottom circles
Step 3. Draw some wavy lines inside the shape of the peas – the center area is bigger and the top area of the pea is smaller
Step 4. Join the ends of the wavy lines that are in the middle to the tapered corners of the pea shape
Step 5. Delete the guide circles
Step 6. Color the lips with appropriate light and shadow
Method 2 of 2: Men's Lips
Step 1. Make a number of small circles above the center of the page
Step 2. Recreate some circles on the base diagonal below the small circle drawn earlier, touching the bottom corners
Step 3. Draw wavy lines across between the circles
Step 4. Join the top edges of the circle with a symmetrical hill shape to form the upper side of the lips
Step 5. Join the curves below touching the circles at the bottom towards the extreme line of the upper lip
Step 6. Erase unwanted stripes and circles
Step 7. Color the lips
Tips
- Draw thin with a pencil so you can erase the wrong parts easily.
- Men have thinner lips than women. If the woman is wearing gloss, this effect can be achieved by leaving some white space, making sure to look natural.
- All lips are different--some plump, some thin, some with a broad smile, some completely devoid of teeth behind the lips. It takes practice to be able to express so many aspects in a simple sketch, but if you repeat the process again and again with slight changes each time, you'll know what you need to achieve the effect you want.
