Chevron bracelets are very popular because they are often worn as friendship bracelets. This bracelet can be a unique way to show affection to someone, or worn as an accessory. Here are some ways to make a Chevron friendship bracelet.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making Friendship Bracelets
Step 1. Prepare the embroidery thread
Cut crochet or craft thread 150-165 cm for each color depending on wrist size. You'll need a minimum of six strands of yarn (two for three colors), but you can use as many yarns as you want, as long as the number is even.
- The more bracelets you use, the wider the bracelet will be and the more complex the color schemes will be.
- Use the desired color. Just make sure you have two strands for each color you choose.
Step 2. Tie each strand of yarn
Make knots to join the ends of each strand of yarn and tie them together in a variety of ways to make them easier to hold when you work on the bracelet.
You can clip it to a clipboard, attach it to safety pins stuck to a pillow or bolster, or tape it to a work surface. You can also use binder clips with binders or books. Otherwise, simply tie it to the drawer handle
Step 3. Arrange the strands of yarn
Arrange the threads so that they form a symmetrical pattern: the two outermost strands are the same color, then the next strand is also the same color, and so on towards the middle.
Assume there is an imaginary line in the middle and create a pattern of yarn color that is symmetrical on both sides of the line
Step 4. Start from the right node
Starting from the outermost thread on the right side, tie the right knot twice on the thread next to it (second thread from the right)
- To tie a right knot, pull the string over the knotted thread so that they form a 90 degree angle. Then, thread the binding thread through the bottom of the tied thread, then pull it tight.
- Note: Don't forget to make two knots for each yarn.
- After the outermost thread is tied to the thread next to it, do the same for the thread on the other side again. Continue this process until you reach the center of the thread.
- Note: The binding thread (rightmost thread) should now be centered.
Step 5. Start with the left thread
On the left side, tie the left knot with the leftmost thread until it reaches the middle.
The left knot is made in the same way as the right knot, but reversed the sides. Pull the binding thread over the tied thread so that it forms a 90 degree angle, and thread the binding thread through the bottom of the tied thread and pull it firmly
Step 6. Make a middle knot
Tie the right or left knot (it's up to you) with the two middle strands to connect the two sides of the bracelet (make sure you tie the knot twice).
Note: If you've done everything right up to this point, the threads tied together in the middle will be the same color and you'll start to see a V pattern appear
Step 7. Continue pattern creation
Repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 until you reach the desired length of the bracelet. Always start with the outermost thread on each side. Each strand of this yarn is always the same color.
Step 8. Finish the bracelet
Tie a knot at the end of the pattern and use the remaining thread to tie the bracelet to your or a friend's wrist.
You can also attach buttons to the ends of the bracelets. Pull the two strands of thread in the bracelet through the buttonhole, then tie the two threads together and cut off any excess thread (even those that are not used to attach the button). On the other side of the bracelet, there should be a hole formed from the knot at the end and where the knot started. Pull the button through this knot hole after completing all the steps above
Method 2 of 2: Making Double Chevron Friendship Bracelets
Step 1. Prepare the embroidery floss
For this bracelet, prepare some yarn in four different colors. Cut two strands of each color 160 cm long. You should now have 8 strands of yarn.
After cutting all the yarn, fold the skein in half and cut it down the middle. Now, you have 16 strands of yarn
Step 2. Tie the thread
Make a knot to hold each end of the thread together and secure it to the flat surface on which you are working using strong tape (such as masking tape or tire duct tape).
Otherwise, you can clip it to your pants, tie it to a drawer handle, or clip it to a clipboard
Step 3. Arrange the strands of yarn
Use yarn to create a symmetrical pattern that repeats twice so that you have two replicas of the exact same pattern next to each other.
- For example, your pattern might look like this: 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1
- Assume there is an imaginary line in the middle and make a pattern of the same color with thread on both sides of the line. Then, repeat this pattern again.
Step 4. Start from the right node
Starting from the outermost thread on the right side, tie the right knot twice on the thread next to it (second thread from the right).
- To tie a right knot, pull the string over the knotted thread so the two form a 90 degree angle.
- The left knot is made in the same way as the right knot, but reversed the sides. Pull the binding thread over the tied thread so that it forms a 90 degree angle, and thread the binding thread through the bottom of the tied thread and pull it firmly.
- Thus, you complete one side of the symmetrical pattern.
Step 6. Finish the other side
Repeat steps 4 and 5 to create a double Chevron pattern on the left side.
Step 7. Make a middle knot
Tie the right or left knot (it's up to you) with the two middle strands to connect the two sides of the bracelet (make sure you tie the knot twice).
Note: If you've done everything right up to this point, the threads tied together in the middle will be the same color and you'll start to see a double V pattern appear
Step 8. Continue patterning
Repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 until you reach the desired length, always starting with the middle strand and working your way out in each direction until you get a double symmetrical pattern (1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1).
Step 9.
Tips
- Tie a double knot tightly so the bracelet doesn't unravel.
- Iron the bracelet that starts to twist to fix it.
- You can buy embroidery floss at a craft or thread shop
- Use a variety of color combinations for different events. For example, use a combination of pink, red, and white for Valentine's Day, or red and green for Christmas.
- Spread the yarn in the same direction each time.
- Make a friendship bracelet as a friend's birthday gift.
- Apply glue to the end of the excess thread that was cut during the buttoning process to prevent the knot from unraveling with the glue.
