Werewolf is a very fun party game that can be played by many people. The objective of the game is to find and kill the werewolves hiding among the villagers. Start by shuffling and dealing the playing cards. Make sure you deal 2 Werewolf cards, 1 Doctor and 1 Soothsayer card. There are several wild cards in this game such as Drunk, Witch and Alpha Werewolf. After the cards are dealt, the night round begins and the moderator orders the Werewolf to kill 1 person, the Doctor to save 1 person, and the fortune teller to find out the identity of the 1 player he considers to be a Werewolf. After the night has passed, the afternoon round begins and the players start discussing and voting to determine who is considered the Werewolf. The selected player dies and the night round begins again. The game continues until the Werewolf or Villager wins the game. One Night: Ultimate Werewolf is one of the versions of the Werewolf game that includes more roles.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Dealing the Cards
Step 1. Gather at least 7 players
Werewolf is a game that should be played by many people. Gather at least 7 players and order them to sit parallel on the floor or at the table. This is done so that the players can make noise when the night round begins.
Instead, make sure the number of players is odd (not mandatory)
Step 2. Select a moderator
Moderators don't come into play when the night or day round begins. However, the moderator is obliged to keep the game running smoothly. The moderator will shuffle and deal the cards. In addition, the moderator also knows the role of each player. The job of a moderator is to guide the players through the night and day rounds.
- Make sure the players take turns being moderators for each game.
- If the number of players is large enough, the moderator can record the role of each player and who has been eliminated in the book to keep the game running smoothly.
Step 3. Make sure the number of cards matches the number of players
The cards will assign the player roles to each game. Count the number of players and prepare cards with the same number so that each player gets 1 card.
Set aside unused cards
Step 4. Make sure the prepared card contains the Fortune Teller, Doctor, and Werewolf
Each player has their own role for each game. However, fortune tellers, doctors and werewolves have special abilities and tasks that can keep the game fun. It is important that you prepare the appropriate roles for the game to run smoothly.
- For each game, the moderator must always prepare 1 Soothsayer, 1 Doctor and 2 Werewolves.
- The remaining cards are Villagers.
- You can change 1 Villager to Werewolf if the number of players is more than 16 people.
Tip:
If you don't have Werewolf Cards, you can use scraps of paper. Write or draw Villagers, Werewolves, Soothsayers, and Doctors on scraps of paper. After that, put all the pieces of paper into the hat and instruct each player to take 1 piece of paper.
Step 5. Add wild cards to make the game more interesting
You can add a wild card that comes from the Werewolf card pack. This is done so that there are more roles in the game. Wild cards can also be used to replace lost cards. Change the Villager card to Drunk, Witch or Alpha Werewolf to add more elements to the game.
- The drunkard had the same role as the Villager, but he could only communicate through movement and sound. If the Drunk spoke, he would die and be eliminated. Other players, such as the Werewolf, could pretend to be a Drunk as a strategy.
- Witches also behaved like Villagers. However, Magicians have the ability to heal or poison a single player at any time. If a Wizard is included in the game, the moderator will wake him up separately during the night round. The moderator then allows the Magician to poison or revive 1 player.
- The Alpha Werewolf behaved like a normal Werewolf. However, he must at least say the word "Werewolf" or "Werewolf" once when the afternoon round begins. This will be difficult if other players are deliberately avoiding the word to find out the identity of the Alpha Werewolf. If the Alpha Werewolf fails to pronounce it during the afternoon round, he will die.
Step 6. Shuffle the cards and deal face down
After taking cards with the appropriate number and roles from the pack, shuffle the cards. Deal cards until each player has 1 card.
Each player must look at his cards. However, each player must try to hide his role from other players
Part 2 of 3: Entering the Night Round
Step 1. Order all players to close their eyes
The first phase of the game is the night round. After the cards are dealt, the moderator will start the night round by saying “close your eyes.”
If any player cheats or opens his eyes, he is removed from the game
Step 2. Tap your knees or the table to drown out the player's voice
The Werewolf game is set so that players don't know the roles of other players. To make the game even more mysterious, instruct each player to make noise by tapping their knees or the table so that the other players' words are not heard.
- Ask players to make noises with the same rhythm to make it sound louder.
- When not called by the moderator, each player must always turn a blind eye.
Step 3. Order the Werewolf to choose its prey
When the players make noise, the moderator will say, “Werewolves, open your eyes.” The Werewolf then opened its eyes and pointed to one person to be its prey. Both Werewolves can only kill 1 player for each round.
- Werewolves had to contribute to making noise when looking for prey so that other players would not suspect.
- When the Werewolf agreed to his decision and agreed to kill his choice, the moderator noted who would die and said, “Werewolf, close your eyes.”
Tip:
Use gestures, such as nodding, raising an eyebrow, or moving your head to indicate which player to kill.
Step 4. Invite the Doctor to save 1 person
Make sure all the players are still making noise. The moderator then said, “Doctor, who are you going to cure?” The player who plays the role of a Doctor then opens his eyes and chooses 1 person. The selected player will survive if the Werewolf chooses to prey on him. The moderator records the selected players. After that, the doctor closed his eyes again.
- Doctors can choose to save themselves.
- Doctors must not find out who the Werewolf's chosen prey is.
- If the Doctor manages to select a player that the Werewolf will devour, the moderator will say, “One of the players survived,” when the afternoon round begins.
Step 5. Invite the fortune teller to try to find out the Werewolf's identity
After the Doctor closes his eyes and the other players continue to make noise while closing their eyes, the moderator will say, “Seer, open your eyes. Pick one person to find out if he's a werewolf or not. The player who plays the Seer then opens his eyes and appoints 1 player to find out his identity as a Werewolf. The moderator will give a signal if the fortune teller succeeds in appointing a werewolf. The fortune teller then closed his eyes again.
- The Moderator can give a thumbs up or shake his head to inform the Fortuneteller's guess.
- In some other Werewolf games, such as One Night: Ultimate Werewolf, the Fortune teller is allowed to see the cards of the player he chooses instead of just knowing whether the player of choice is Werewolf or not.
- Make sure the moderator and the Fortune teller are not too loud so the Werewolf can't recognize the fortune teller's identity.
- The fortune teller may only ask for the identity of 1 player for each game.
Step 6. Allow the Witch to poison or revive 1 person if she wishes
When you include a Witch in the game, the moderator will say, “The Witch is awake.” After that, the moderator said, “Witch revives one person, then, “Witch poisoned one person.” As long as the moderator is speaking, Magicians may appoint 1 person to be poisoned or revived.
- If a wizard is killed, the moderator will still make an announcement as above for each round to keep the wizard's identity confidential.
- Magicians can only poison and revive other players once. However, Magicians can use their abilities at any time.
Step 7. End the night round and announce who was killed
After the Werewolves, Doctors, and Soothsayers have made their choices, the moderator will say, "Everyone open their eyes, it's afternoon round." The moderator then tells which players were killed and eliminated from the game. The player then returns his card and does not reveal his identity.
- Have fun with each role! Moderators can tell the chronology of the killing of players in detail. In addition, killed players can die dramatically.
- Alternatively, the killed player may reveal his identity to other players.
Part 3 of 3: Playing the Afternoon Round
Step 1. Instruct each player to introduce themselves
The afternoon round begins by allowing each player to introduce their character as a Villager. The Werewolf, Doctor, and Soothsayer must convince other players that he is an ordinary Villager.
- Role playing is the most important part of this game. Therefore, have fun!
- For example, when you have to introduce yourself, you might say, “Hello, my name is Budi. I work as a blacksmith. I've prepared some weapons to kill the werewolves!”
Tip:
Ask each player to explore their own character throughout the game to make the discussion and voting sessions more interesting!
Step 2. Vote to determine which player to kill
After each player introduces himself, the player must discuss to determine which resident is considered a werewolf. The player can say whatever he wants. Players can promise, swear, hide something, or tell stories about themselves. The moderator then starts the voting session. The player who gets the most votes will be killed. The player is removed from the game.
- To keep the game running smoothly, set a time limit for the noon rounds to pass to force players to quickly decide who to kill.
- If the time is up and no player has been selected, the afternoon round ends and no one is killed so the chance to kill the Werewolf is missed.
Step 3. Restart the night round and continue playing until a winner can be determined
After voting and choosing who to kill, the killed player is removed from the game and the night round begins again. Players turn a blind eye and make noise by tapping their knees or the table. The Werewolf determines its prey, the Doctor chooses 1 person to save, and the Soothsayer tries to find out the identity of 1 person. The game continues until a winner can be determined.
- If both Werewolves are killed, the Villagers win the game,
- The Werewolf wins the game if it manages to reduce the number of Villagers to the same number. In other words, if there are 2 Werewolves and only 2 Villagers remaining, the Werewolf wins the game.
