Slices of lettuce and cabbage are used as accompaniments to Mexican dishes, as a base for salads, and in specialty dishes in many restaurants. Thinly slicing lettuce and cabbage isn't difficult to do at home. Read this article to learn how to slice lettuce and cabbage by hand, using a grater, or using a blender.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Chopping Lettuce and Cabbage By Hand
Step 1. Start with a piece of lettuce or cabbage
Iceberg lettuce is usually served as a side dish such as enchiladas and on tostadas, while green cabbage is used as the base of various salads.
Step 2. Peel the leaves that are already looking bad from the outside
Leaves found on the outside of lettuce and cabbage tend to be easily damaged. Lettuce and cabbage will look fresher on the inside.
Step 3. Take the thick part of the stem and face the flat part on the cutting board
Step 4. Slide the head of the lettuce stalk onto the cutting board
Assume that there are nails on a cutting board and you are using the rod as a hammer. Hit it with a strong enough force. In this way, the rod will be crushed, and the rod can be pulled out. Pull and throw it to make compost.
This method is not very effective with cabbage, it will be easier if you split the cabbage in half through the stem to the top. Then remove the stem by cutting along the outline of the thick part
Step 5. Cut it in half
Turn the head so that the hole from the stem is facing up and cut the head of lettuce in half vertically.
Step 6. Rotate the head of lettuce so that it is tilted slightly (about 5 degrees) to the left
Step 7. Slice the lettuce
Cut vertically and gently turn half of the head of lettuce until all of the lettuce has been cut off. If you don't want the slices to be too long, cut the stack of lettuce horizontally in half. You can also lay the flat part on the cutting board and cut to the thickness you want.
Step 8. Repeat the same process for the remaining half of the lettuce
Step 9. Done
Method 2 of 3: Chop Lettuce and Cabbage With a Grate
Step 1. Remove the outer leaves from a fresh lettuce or cabbage
Make sure you don't see any rotten or damaged spots on the lettuce or cabbage.
Step 2. Cut the lettuce or cabbage into quarters
Step 3. Stand the cheese or vegetable grater in a large bowl
That way, the grated lettuce or cabbage can fall straight into the bowl.
Step 4. Slide the lettuce or cabbage over the grater
Finely grated lettuce or cabbage will start to fall off.
Step 5. Continue until all the lettuce or cabbage is shredded
Continue with the next section of lettuce or cabbage until you have a finely grated pile.
Method 3 of 3: Chop Lettuce and Cabbage With a Blender
Step 1. Remove the outer leaves from a fresh lettuce or cabbage
Make sure you don't see any rotten or damaged spots on the lettuce or cabbage.
Step 2. Cut the lettuce or cabbage into quarters
Step 3. Place a quarter of the portion into the blender
Step 4. Turn on the blender for a few seconds
Check to see how finely chopped the lettuce or cabbage is.
Step 5. Allow the lettuce or cabbage to continue chopping using a blender until it reaches the right texture
Some restaurants serve very finely sliced lettuce or cabbage; keep the blender on until the lettuce or cabbage is to your liking. Don't keep the blender on for too long as the lettuce and cabbage can turn into mush.
Step 6. Remove the lettuce or cabbage pieces from the blender
Place it in a bowl.
Step 7. Finish cutting the lettuce or cabbage quarters at a time

Handle the sharp knife carefully to avoid slipping and cutting your finger
Warning
- Be careful not to hurt yourself. Don't cut too close to your hands and try not to cut too fast if you're not used to it.
- Avoid using a steak knife. You can't cut lettuce and cabbage finely enough with a steak knife.
