Method 1 of 4: Using Yahoo Website
Step 1. Open the Yahoo website
If you're already signed in to your Yahoo account, you'll see your profile photo and the first letters of your name in the top-right corner of the page.
- If you are not logged into your account, click the “ Sign in ” in the upper-right corner of the page, enter your current email address and password, then click “ Sign in ”.
- If your internet service provider (ISP) uses Yahoo! as an account (e.g. AT&T, Frontier, Verizon, BT, Sky, Rogers, Spark, or MTS), you will need to contact their customer service department for instructions on the account password change process. This process is different from the process of changing your Yahoo account. In addition, each internet service provider has a different process of change.
Step 2. Click the profile name
The name appears in the upper right corner of the screen. This option replaces the "Sign In" button once you have logged into your account.
Step 3. Click Account Info
This link is just below your Yahoo email account in the window that appears.
Step 4. Click the Account security tab
This tab is at the top of the menu, on the left side of the “Account Info” page.
Step 5. Click Change password
This link is in the middle of the page.
Step 6. Click No, I want to change my password
This link is displayed under the button “ Make my account more secure ”.
Step 7. Type in the new password twice
You will need to enter your password once in the " New password " field, and then enter it again in the " Confirm new password " field directly below it.
You can check the " Show password " box at the bottom of the screen to display the password you typed in
Step 8. Click Continue
After that, your Yahoo account password used on all platforms will be changed.
To verify, log out of your Yahoo account and log back in using the new password
Method 2 of 4: Using Mobile Apps
Step 1. Open Yahoo Mail
This application is marked by a purple icon with an envelope in front of it.
Step 2. Touch the ?
. It's in the top-left corner of the screen.
Step 3. Touch Manage Account
It's at the top of the menu.
Step 4. Touch the “Account info” link
You'll see the link under the name, at the top of the " Accounts " page.
If you have multiple Yahoo accounts being used on one device, you can tap the " Account info " link under any account name to review the respective account settings
Step 5. Touch Security Settings
It's at the bottom of the account page.
Step 6. Type in the phone passcode
If you're already signed in to your account via the Yahoo Mail app, you won't be prompted for your password.
If you're using an iPhone with Touch ID, you can scan your fingerprint
Step 7. Touch Change password
It's in the middle of the screen.
Step 8. Touch No, I want to change my password
This gray link appears at the bottom of the page, below the “ Make my account more secure ”.
Step 9. Type in the new password twice
You will need to enter your password once in the " New password " field, then re-enter it in the " Confirm new password " field directly below it.
You can check the "Show password" box at the bottom of the screen to display the typed password
Step 10. Touch Continue
After that, your Yahoo account password used on all platforms will be changed.
To verify, log out of your Yahoo account and log back in using the new password
Method 3 of 4: Reset Forgotten Password Via Desktop Site
Step 1. Go to the Yahoo Sign-In Helper page
This tool uses a single login information to connect you to the account.
Step 2. Type in your phone number
Enter this information in the text field in the middle of the page.
If you want to enter a recovery email address, keep in mind that it must be registered with your previous Yahoo email address
Step 3. Click Continue
It's below the text field on this page.
Step 4. Click Yes, text me an Account Key
Select this option if you can access the phone number shown on the screen.
- If you cannot access the phone number, click “ I don't have access " You will get the option to click “ Start Over " After that, you can enter your recovery email address if you have one.
- If you can't access your account's recovery email or phone number, you won't be able to log back into your account.
Step 5. Open the message on the phone
You will receive an SMS from a six-digit phone number with the message " [8 letter code] is your Yahoo Account Key."
If you want to use a recovery email address, you'll need to open that email account. You can view messages from Yahoo. If not, check the Spam folder
Step 6. Type the code on the Yahoo page
The code field is in the middle of the page.
Step 7. Click Verify
It's at the bottom of the code text field.
Step 8. Click Continue
You have the option to review your account information on this page. After that, you can access your account again. At a later stage, you can change the account password.
Method 4 of 4: Reset Password Via Mobile App
Step 1. Open Yahoo Mail
This application is marked by a purple icon with an envelope in front of it.
Step 2. Touch Sign In
It's a large blue button at the bottom of the screen.
If Yahoo Mail displays your Yahoo account immediately, proceed to the password change process as usual
Step 3. Touch the “Trouble signing in?” link. This link is under the button “ Next ” which is on this page.
Step 4. Type in your phone number
This number is the number you entered when you created your Yahoo account.
- You can also enter a recovery email address, but it must be registered with your Yahoo account.
- If you don't have a recovery email address or phone number registered with your Yahoo account, you can't get your account back.
Step 5. Touch Continue
It's at the bottom of the screen.
Step 6. Touch Yes, text me an Account Key
After that, Yahoo will send a short message containing an eight-letter code to your phone number (or to the email address you choose as the recovery address).
If you use a recovery email address, this option will be labeled " email " instead of " text"
Step 7. Open the message on the phone
