This wikiHow teaches you how to make a decorated TV in Minecraft Creative mode. While you can't make a real TV that works and comes with channels, you can make a decorative TV that turns on when the button is pressed.

Step

Part 1 of 4: Getting Ready

Step 1. Start the game in Creative mode

Technically, you can actually create a TV in the Survival mode of the Minecraft game. However, you need a very long time to collect the materials used to make the components of the television.

If you already have a world in Creative mode, load it

Step 2. Select the materials needed to make the TV

Open the menu to create objects by pressing the E key (PC edition), (for Minecraft PE), or X or box (Xbox/PlayStation console edition), then add the following ingredients to the equipment bar (equip bar):

  • Material for building (eg cobblestone)
  • Pistons
  • redstone
  • redstone repeaters
  • redstone lamp
  • Lever
  • Painting

Step 3. Determine the location to create the TV

If you already own a building, install a TV in the living room or basement area. However, don't forget that you need a few blocks of free space behind and to the side of the TV.

Step 4. Make a wall to place the TV

Create a 4 x 4 block wall in the area you want to use for the TV. If the walls are ready, continue with your steps for creating the TV screen.

Part 2 of 4: Making a TV Screen

Step 1. Make a hole in the wall to place the TV

The hole should be one block high by two blocks wide.

Step 2. Place the two pistons side by side

Face the area that will be used as the TV screen, then place the pistons in each of the unblocked holes in the wall.

Step 3. Place the redstone repeaters under and behind each piston

Walk to the back of the wall and face the back of the pistons, then place the redstone repeaters one block below them and one block behind each piston.

If the piston is more than a block above the ground, create a platform for your redstone repeater

Step 4. Place a cobblestone torch directly behind each repeater

This makes the repeater active. When the torch is placed there, the piston in each repeater will light up.

Step 5. Place two redstone lamps behind the piston

Select the back of the piston while carrying the redstone lamp, then place the lamp there and repeat this action on the other piston. This is a "backlight" for the TV because the light from the redstone lamp will pass through the piston.

Step 6. Place the painting on the left piston

Return to the front of the wall, then select the painting in the gear bar, and place the painting on the left piston. The painting will cover the two pistons, which will form a "sail". Now you can move on to creating a TV remote.

You can change the painting if you don't like the picture

Part 3 of 4: Creating a Remote

Step 1. Place the lever on the ground in front of the TV

If you want a more interesting " remote ", place the lever on a cobblestone block or other similar object.

Step 2. Place a series of blocks until you reach one of the redstone lights

Place a block below and to the side of the redstone lamp, and repeat until you have a "ladder"-shaped block that leads from the side of the TV to the redstone lamp.

Keep in mind that the power of redstone can only reach up to 15 blocks. So, don't make the "ladder" too high

Step 3. Make a redstone trail from the lever towards the lamp

Place one redstone blot on each block by forming a line from the lever to the top block on the "ladder", then place the last redstone spot on one of the lights. This will form a "wire" from the lever to the lamp.

Step 4. Test the TV remote

Select the lever by right-clicking (on PC), tapping (PE), or pressing the left trigger (console edition). The redstone light will turn on.

If the lever is active when you place redstone, the redstone lamp will light up. You can turn it off by pressing the lever

Part 4 of 4: Decorating the TV

Step 1. Build the back of the TV

You can cover everything behind the TV using whatever material you want by making a box around the back of the TV and filling it in. This makes all parts of your assembled TV more attractive.

Step 2. Move the cord underground

If you want to hide the redstone "wires," make a trench to plant the wires in, then build a wall over it. You can't place blocks directly on top of the redstone wire, but you can place something up to a block high on top of the wire without cutting the connection.

Step 3. Draw a frame around the TV

Use a material that is not the same as the wall material to make the frame for the TV screen.

  • You can also build a "shelf" to use as an entertainment center this way.
  • Bookshelf blocks are the right choice to decorate the side of the TV.

Step 4. Add speakers to the TV

Add a jukebox tower to the side of the TV if you want to have a set of speakers that can work. You can also place a speaker-like object (such as a Wither Skeleton skull) on either side of the TV.

Since the TV can't actually display a moving picture, there's nothing wrong with using a decorative (non-functional) speaker

Step 5. Add furniture to the room

Use a quartz ladder for a white sofa, or a wooden block for an end table (a small table placed next to a sofa or other piece of furniture). You can also give the room a warm glow by adding a block of glowstone.

Step 6. Turn on your TV

Turn on the TV by selecting the lever. When the room is dim, the TV will turn on so you can enjoy it.
