One of the features that has made Snapchat a popular photo-sharing service is the ease with which it can create images on photos and videos. Just touch the pencil button and you can use your finger to draw anything on the post. Both the iPhone and Android versions of Snapchat allow you to customize the color of the lines created, but the color selection process to follow is slightly different for each version.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Adjusting Colors on iPhone
Step 1. Take a photo or record a video via Snapchat
The Snapchat app allows you to draw on the snaps you take, both photos and videos. Touch the shutter button on the Snapchat camera window to take a photo, or press and hold the button to record a video.
Step 2. Touch the pencil button to display the drawing mode (drawing mode)
With this mode, you can draw on your post with your finger. On the right side of the screen, you can see the brush/line color slider.
Step 3. Gently drag finger on the slider towards up and down to select a color
Move your finger slowly to see the color change. By slowly dragging your finger, you can choose the colors and patterns you want to use precisely. The currently selected color is displayed as the background color on the pencil button.
Step 4. Drag the finger directly towards the left to brighten the color
The further you drag your finger to the left, the brighter the color will be. Make sure you keep dragging your finger horizontally because if you move it up or down, you'll switch to a different color.
Step 5. Drag your finger to the bottom corner of the screen to select black color
Touch the color slider first, then drag your finger to the bottom end of the screen to select black as the brush/line color.
Step 6. Drag finger to the left end of the screen to select white color
Touch the color slider first, then drag your finger to the far left of the screen to select white as the brush/line color.
- You can drag your finger to the left, then slide it down if you want to get a gray color.
- The iPhone version of Snapchat doesn't support semitransparent lines, like the Android version.
Method 2 of 2: Adjusting Colors on Android Device
Step 1. Take a photo or record a video
You can draw captured snaps, including video posts. To take a photo, touch the shutter button on the Snapchat camera window. If you want to record a video, press and hold the shutter button.
Step 2. Touch the pencil button to enter drawing mode
You can drag your finger over the screen to create the next image.
Step 3. Press and hold the color strip in the upper right corner of the screen
The strip will expand into three columns showing 33 color options.
Step 4. Release your finger on the color you want to use
The color of the pencil button will change according to the movement of the finger on the color palette. Release your finger when you find the color you want to use.
Step 5. Choose a color on the bottom center side to make the image semitransparent
This option allows you to create semitransparent lines. You'll still be able to see what's below the line, including the original image or video, or any other line that's been drawn in a solid color. Use the semitransparent option to create further effects or shadows.
The black option at the bottom of the left column is actually a darker transparent color so you have two different transparency options
Step 6. Drag your finger outside the color column to create and get your own selected color
The color choices that can be used are not limited to the colors displayed in the column only. Once the color column is open, drag your finger outside the column, towards the center of the image. This mechanism allows you to choose your own color:
- Drag your finger up or down on the screen to select a color. You can see the currently selected color on the pencil button.
- Drag your finger left or right to change the hue of the selected color. If you drag your finger to the left, the color will appear darker. Meanwhile, the colors will appear brighter if you slide your finger to the right.
