An inkjet printer is a non-impact printer that prints documents by spraying ink dots on paper. This printer is one of the most popular types used in homes and offices because it provides good printouts and is relatively inexpensive. There are many manufacturers of inkjet printers so there is little difference between one printer and another. However, there are several ways to check the remaining ink in your printer. Read the article below to find out how to check the remaining ink in the printer.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Checking Using a Computer
Step 1. Make sure the software that you received with the printer is installed on the computer using the printer
If this printer is shared by several computers, you may be able to access the ink check feature on your own computer or you may have to use the computer where the printer was originally installed to use the ink check feature
Step 2. Make sure your computer is connected to the printer
Step 3. Make sure the computer and printer are on
Step 4. Click the printer application on your computer and look for the "Estimate Ink Levels" menu
- If you're using an Apple computer, this option can be found in the System Preferences Application under "Hardware." Click the printer and click the "Supply Levels" option.
- If you are using Windows (OS), go to the Start menu and select "Control Panel." Click " Devices and Printers " in the Control Panel. Right click your printer from the hardware list, select " Printing Preferences… ", and find " Estimate Ink levels " or " Get Ink levels ".
Method 2 of 2: Checking Manually
Step 1. Turn on the printer
Step 2. Open the top (or center) of the printer and the cartridge will move into a position that you can access
Do not move parts of the printer forcibly. Look for the arrow indicating the printer opening. Many printers have a top or front that can be opened so you can access the cartridges
Step 3. Remove the cartridges one by one carefully
For HP cartridges, press cartridge. For Epson, open the cartridge case, then pull it out. Unlike toner cartridges, most ink cartridges are made of a transparent or opaque material so you can check the remaining ink inside.
Step 4. Repeat this procedure to check the other cartridges
Tips
- Also check the flashing indicator on the top of the printer. Newer versions of inkjet printers may have running text that provides information when there is only a small amount of ink remaining. Check the printer console before continuing.
- Even if you have refilled the ink cartridges, they will need to be replaced from time to time. Printer heads are often supplied with cartridges so they can be replaced frequently. The printer head will wear out if it is used too much and this will affect the print quality.
