This wikiHow teaches you how to tag your friends and other Facebook users via the Facebook mobile app or the Facebook website on a desktop computer.

Method 1 of 2: Via Mobile App
Step 1. Open the Facebook app
This application is marked by the letter icon “ f ” white on a blue background.
- Sign in to the account if you didn't log in automatically (using the account's email address and password).
- You may not be able to bookmark certain users or business pages due to the privacy settings set by those users or page managers.
Step 2. Tag someone in a photo
To mark it:
- Touch a photo that's in one of your photo albums or timelines, or another user's timeline.
- Tap the shopping tag icon at the top of the screen.
- Touch a photo anywhere. Usually, the user's marker on the photo will be placed above the user's face. However, you can touch any part to place a marker on the photo.
- Type in the name of the user you want to tag.
- Touch the name of the user you want to tag when their name appears in the dialog box. After that, the user will be tagged in the photo.
- Touch the button “ X ” in the top left corner when you've finished marking. Your friends will get a notification that you tagged them in the photo.
Step 3. Tag someone on your post
To mark it:
- Create a new post by tapping the status update field at the top of the news feed or timeline. This field is marked with the message " What's on your mind…? " (“What are you thinking now?”), “Would you like to share an update…?” (“Do you want to share an update…?”), or something similar.
- Touch the option " Tag People ” (“Tag People”). It's next to the blue silhouette at the bottom of the screen. If you can't see this option, touch “ Add to your post ” (“Add to your post”) below the message field to open the menu options.

Touch Who are you with?
” (“Who are you with?”) at the top of the screen.
- Alternatively, touch the user displayed in the " SUGGESTIONS " list on the screen.
- Type in the name of the user you want to tag.
- Touch the name of the user you want to tag when it appears on the screen. Type in another username and tap their name if you want to tag more than one person in the photo.
- Touch the button “ Done ” (“Done”) in the upper right corner of the screen after you have finished marking the user. On Android devices, this button may be labeled “ Next ” (“Next”).
- Write a comment and touch the button “ Post ” (“Send”) in the upper-right corner of the screen. The post will be displayed and then your timeline and other tagged users will get a notification that you've tagged it in a post.
Step 4. Tag a person by typing their name
To mark it:
- Make a post or post a comment on another post, photo, or video.
- Type the name of the user you want to tag in the post or comment. Facebook will provide user suggestions that match when you type your name.
- Alternatively, type the @ symbol before typing the username. This symbol lets Facebook know that you want to tag someone in a post or comment.
- Touch the name of the user you want to tag when it appears on the screen.
- Touch the button “ Post ” (“Send”) in the upper-right corner of the screen. After that, your post or comment will be uploaded, and tagged users will get a notification that you've tagged them in the post.
Method 2 of 2: Via Desktop
Step 1. Visit https://www.facebook.com via a web browser
- If you're not automatically logged into your account, sign in first (using your account email address and password).
- You may not be able to bookmark certain users or business pages due to the privacy settings set by those users or page managers.
Step 2. Tag someone on the photo
To mark it:
- Click a photo that's in one of your photo albums or timelines, or on a friend's timeline.
- Click " Photo Tags ” (“Tag Photo”) at the bottom of the image.
- Click a photo on a friend's face or any part of it. If the photo contains a person's face, Facebook will tag that face. If Facebook's algorithm recognizes the face shown in the photo, Facebook will provide appropriate user suggestions that you can tag.
- Type in the name of the user you want to tag.
- Click the name of the user you want to tag when the name appears in the dialog box. After that, the user will be tagged in the photo.
- Click the black background (anywhere) when you're done tagging the user. After that, tagged users will get a notification that you've tagged them in the photo.
Step 3. Tag someone in a post
To mark it:
- Create a new post by tapping the status update field at the top of the news feed or timeline. This field is marked with the message " What's on your mind…? " (“What are you thinking now?”), “Would you like to share an update…?” (“Do you want to share an update…?”), or something similar.
- Touch the option " Tag People ” (“Tag People”). It's next to the blue silhouette at the bottom of the dialog box.

- Type in the name of the user you want to tag.
- Click the name of the user you want to tag when the name appears on the screen. Type in another username and click their name if you want to tag more than one person in the post.
- Write a comment and click the button “ Post ” (“Send”) in the lower-right corner of the window. After that, the post will appear on your timeline and tagged users will get a notification that you've tagged them in the post.
Step 4. Tag a person by typing their name
To mark it:
- Post or comment on other posts, photos, or videos.
- Type the name of the user you want to tag in the post or comment. When you type a name, Facebook will show you suggestions for a suitable username.
- As an alternative, type the @ symbol before typing the username. This symbol lets Facebook know that you want to tag someone in a post or comment.
