Step 1. Log in to Facebook
Type in your username and password.
Step 2. Type your status in the status box
It's at the top of the home page with "What's on your mind?"
Step 3. Press the space bar and type the "@" symbol
If you leave no spaces, this process will not work.

When you start typing a person's name, a list of your friends will appear, and you can select the person from here.
