You want to make a new craft? Make a sticker. Stickers are easy to make using tools and materials you have at home. You can even make professional-looking stickers using sticker paper sold at office supply stores. Below are three ways to make stickers: using homemade glue, broad tape, or sticker paper.

Method 1 of 4: Glue Stickers
Step 1. Create a sticker design
You are free to be creative in making your own stickers. Use any drawing and coloring tools you like: colored pencils, markers, pastels, crayons, or whatever. Make sure the coloring tools don't fade easily. Create sticker designs on thin paper such as binder paper or notebook paper. Here are some creative design options that you can use:
- Draw your own face, the face of a friend, or your pet.
- Cut out interesting pictures or sentences from magazines or newspapers.
- Print photos from the internet or on a computer. For best results, print photos on light paper, do not print on photo paper.
- Use sticker sheets from the internet in predefined and printable sticker formats.
- Create the photo using a rubber stamp.
- Decorate photos with glitter.
Step 2. Cut the sticker
Use scissors to cut out sticker designs that have been drawn or printed on paper. You are free to determine how big the border area on the sticker is.

Step 3. Make the glue
This glue is safe for children even if applied to stickers or licked. The glue acts as a sticker adhesive for most surfaces, but does not contain harmful chemicals. To make it, mix the following ingredients in a bowl until completely combined:
- A packet of plain gelatin
- 4 tablespoons of boiling water
- 1 teaspoon sugar or corn syrup
- A few drops of peppermint or vanilla extract, for aroma.
- Use other extracts for a more exciting aroma! Use a different scent for each type of sticker. Create stickers with surprising flavors for each friend. You can also add flavor according to the type of celebration, such as Christmas/Eid, Valentine, or Easter.
- Once the glue is done, store it in a pill bottle or airtight container in the refrigerator. The glue will form a gel overnight. To defrost, place the container in a bowl of hot or warm water.
- This glue can also be used to seal envelopes.
Step 4. Apply glue on the back of the sticker
Turn the sticker over onto the wax paper or aluminum foil. Use a paint brush or cake brush to apply glue to the back of the sticker. When you're done, wait for the glue to dry.
- You don't need to soak the sticker. Just apply a thin layer of glue.
- Make sure the glue is completely dry before you apply the sticker.
- Store the sticker in a plastic bag or box until ready to use.
Step 5. Lick the back of the sticker
To attach the sticker to any surface, simply lick the back like licking a stamp. Then press the sticker onto the surface you've attached it to for a few seconds. The glue you make should be strong enough, so be careful not to stick it wrong.
Method 2 of 4: Wide Tape Sticker
Step 1. Cut a sticker from a magazine or create your own sticker design
For this method, cut out the design you got from cutting out a magazine or an image printed onto paper with waterproof ink. You can use a magazine or book that has smooth pages. You can also experiment with printer ink to print designs from a computer. If you're printing an image, make a test copy first to get it slightly wet before you create a printed sticker. Cut pictures and words using scissors.
- When selecting an image, look at the width of the tape. Each sticker must be able to fit on one strip. Images can be the size of tape or smaller.
- If the design size is larger than the tape measure, place two pieces of tape on top of each other. Align the tapes so that all parts of the paper are covered. This can be a little tricky, and maybe the layers of each piece of tape will come together.
Step 2. Cover the sticker design with masking tape
Cut a sheet of clear tape that is wide enough to cover the entire sticker design. Then stick the tape onto the sticker design. Press the tape so that all the glue sticks to the sticker design paper.
- Make sure you are careful when applying tape to the sticker design. Moving the tape that starts to stick can tear the image. Also make sure there are no bubbles or wrinkles on the tape when it is pasted.
- You can use double-sided tape (double tape). Double-sided adhesive comes in several forms - rolls, sheets and even sticker-making machines, such as Xyron.
- You can use Washi Tape. Washi Tape is similar to masking tape, perfect for stickers because it sticks and is easy to peel off the way you want. For a more adhesive sticker, use strong tape (duct tape). Washi Tape is available in various colors and patterns.
Step 3. Rub the front of the sticker
Use a coin or your fingernail to press and rub the front of the sticker to allow the ink on the sticker design to stick to the tape. Press and rub continuously for a few minutes to make sure it really sticks.
Step 4. Wet the sticker with warm water
Wet the stickers one at a time with the paper side facing the water until the paper starts to come off the tape. The ink will not smudge, but the entire paper will come off completely. You can scrub with your hands to speed up this process.
- Make sure the entire surface of the tape is wet, and don't focus on one point of the surface. If you focus on only one point, only that part will be visible.
- If the paper does not come off, continue to wet it under warm water.
- Another way is to submerge the sticker in a bowl of warm water. Place the sticker completely in the water and let it soak for a few minutes.
Step 5. Wait for the sticker to dry
Once all the paper is removed, allow the sticker to dry completely so that the glue on the tape can re-attach. Use a pair of scissors to trim off the excess tape, then stick the sticker wherever you want.
Method 3 of 4: Using Sticker Paper
Step 1. Buy sticker paper
Office supply stores usually sell paper that has this adhesive on one side. This paper is usually coated with a backing paper that can be peeled off when the sticker is to be pasted.
- Alternatively, you can purchase sticky sticker sheets. This sheet can attach the image to the glue, then the sticker is peeled off so that the glue will move to the back of the sticker. This sheet is suitable for stickers that use an existing image or have been cut from a magazine.
- Purchase paper that meets the printer's specifications.
- If you don't have a printer, you can still use sticker paper by drawing your own designs on sticker paper, or cutting out pictures from magazines and books.
Step 2. Create a sticker design
Design your sticker using a computer, or use a marker or pen to draw directly on the sticker paper. You can make a design the size of sticker paper, for example the size of letter-sized paper.
- Create designs on your computer using Adobe Photoshop, Paint, or other drawing programs. You can also use photos you have or find on the internet. When finished designing, print the design on this sticker paper.
- If a physical photo or image you want to create a sticker on is available, scan it to a computer or upload a digital photo. Edit this photo from Photoshop, Paint, Word, or Adobe Acrobat, then print it on sticker paper.
- Draw your design directly on sticker paper using pen, pencil, or paint. Make sure the paper is not too wet because the adhesive glue can be damaged.
Step 3. Cut out the sticker design
Use scissors to cut out a printed or drawn design. Cut out in a square shape or follow the shape of the design. Leave a margin of at least 0.3 cm to prevent cutting errors.
- If you are using a sticky sticker sheet, simply pull off the protective layer so that the glue sticks out. Place the back of the sticker onto the glue. Press to make sure the sticker adheres to the glue. Then peel off the sticker. The glue is now behind the sticker. Stick the sticker on any surface. You should use the sticker immediately because there is no protective cover on the back.
- You can leave a bit of a white border around the image, or you can crop it to fit. Skilled sticker makers sometimes skip the edges and cut with an Exacto knife.
Step 4. Peel off the back of the sticker paper
If you want to stick a sticker, just peel off the protective part behind the paper and stick it wherever you want.
Method 4 of 4: Making Stickers in Other Ways
Step 1. Create reusable stickers
For stickers that can be glued over and over again, buy repositioning glue, which is available at craft stores or online. After designing and cutting the sticker, apply some repositioning glue on the back of the sticker. Let the glue dry completely. Then glue, peel and glue again!
Step 2. Use mailing labels
Create pictures, shapes, or words onto printable letter labels. Mailing labels can be purchased at office supply stores. Cut around the shape, then peel off the label. Place the sticker on the wax paper if you don't want to use it at that time.
Step 3. Create the sticker with double-sided tape
Cut out the design on paper, or cut out an image from a magazine. Once the sticker is cut to the shape you want, place double-sided tape on the back of the sticker. Cut the tape to fit the sticker. Stick it on the wax paper until the sticker is ready to use.
Step 4. Make a sticker with decorative paper
Draw the design on the glossy side of the decorative paper using a Sharpie. Cut the sticker around the design. Peel off the back of the paper and stick it to any surface.

Step 5. Use a sticker making machine
To make more stickers at a low cost (Rp 200,000-250,000), purchase a sticker making machine from a craft store or online. Insert stickers (images, photos, even ribbons) into the sticker maker and then pull them out of the machine. Some engines have a crank, or you can simply slide the sticker material on one side and then pull it from the other side. The machine that will apply the glue. The sticker is ready to use once removed: just peel and stick.
