According to Hindu and/or Buddhist beliefs, chakras are large (but confined) pools of energy within our bodies that regulate our psychological traits. It is said that there are seven main chakras; four in the upper body, which governs our mental qualities, and three in the lower body, which governs our instinctive qualities. The chakras are:

Muladhara Chakra (base). Svadhisthana Chakra (sacred) Manipura Chakra (solar plexus) Anahata Chakra (heart) Visuddhi Chakra (throat) Ajna Chakra (third eye) Sahasrara (crown) chakra.

According to Buddhist/Hindu teachings all these chakras contribute to the human condition. Our instincts will combine our strength and feelings and thoughts. Some of the chakras are usually not open all the time (meaning they operate like when we were born), but some are overactive, or even close to closing. If the chakras are not balanced, then self-peace will not be achieved.

Step 1. Understand that if you open a chakra, there is no need to try and make an overactive chakra less active

It's all just compensation for the closed chakras. After all the chakras are open, the energy will be evenly distributed, and become balanced.

Step 2. Open the Basic Chakra (red)

This chakra is based on being physically aware and feeling comfortable in many situations. If it is open, you will certainly feel balanced and sensitive, stable and secure. Don't distrust people around you for no reason. You feel present to what is happening right now, and very connected to your physical body. If this chakra is underactive: you tend to feel scared or nervous, and it's easy to feel disapproved. If this chakra is overactive: you may become materialistic and greedy. You feel as if you have to be secure and squeeze your way out of change.

  • Use your body and be aware of the chakra. Do yoga, take a walk around the block, or clean the house. These activities make your body known, and will strengthen the chakra.

  • Arcade yourself. This means you have to be grounded, and feel it beneath you. To do this, stand straight and relax, spread your legs apart and slightly bend your knees. Move your pelvis forward slightly, and keep your body balanced so that the weight is evenly distributed on the soles of your feet. Then direct the weights forward. Stay in this position for a few minutes.

  • After grounding yourself, sit cross-legged, as shown in the image below.

  • While doing this, allow yourself to relax, still thinking about the chakras, their meanings, and how or should how they affect your life.
  • Keep doing it until you feel completely relaxed. You'll probably get a "clean" feeling.
  • Visualize a red flower face down. Imagine a very strong energy radiating from it: the flower slowly blooms revealing its four red petals full of energy.

Step 3. Open the Sacred Chakra (orange)

This chakra is related to feelings and sexuality. When open, feelings are released freely, and are expressed without excessive emotion. You will be open to attraction and can be passionate but also cool. You have no sexuality-based problems. If this chakra is underactive: you tend to be unemotional and lethargic, and not very open to anyone. If you are overactive: you tend to be sensitive and emotional all the time. Maybe you are also very sexual.

  • Sit on your knees, back straight, but relaxed.

  • Place your hands on your lap, palms facing up, stacked on top of each other. The left hand is down, the palm touches the back fingers of the right hand, and the thumbs touch gently.

Step 4. Open the Navel Chakra (yellow)

This chakra covers self-confidence, especially in a group. When you open up, you will feel in control and feel proud of yourself. If this chakra is underactive: you tend to become passive and giddy. It could be that you often feel worried and that is not good for you. If you are too active: you tend to be arrogant and aggressive.

  • Sit on your knees, with your back straight, but relaxed.

  • Place your hands in front of your stomach, slightly below the solar plexus. The fingers meet at the top, all pointing away from you. Cross your thumbs and tighten your fingers (this is important).

  • Concentrate on the Navel Chakra and the part it represents, on the spine, slightly above the navel.

  • While doing this, allow yourself to relax, still thinking about the chakras, their meanings, and how or should how they affect your life.

Step 5. Open the Heart Chakra (green)

This chakra is associated with love, care, and affection. When you are open, you will come across as loving and friendly, always working within the framework of a pleasant relationship. If this chakra is underactive: you tend to become cold and unfriendly. If you're too active: you tend to be so "loving" to people that they feel uncomfortable, and you can come across as selfish because of that.

  • Sit cross-legged.

  • Let the tips of the index and thumb touch for both hands.

Step 6. Open the Throat Chakra (light blue)

This chakra is based on self-expression and communication. When this chakra is open, expressing oneself becomes easy, and art is a great outlet. If you're less active: You tend not to talk much, so you're classed as shy. If you lie often, this chakra can be blocked. If you're too active: You tend to talk a lot, which can annoy a lot of people. You can also be a bad listener.

  • Again, sit on your knees.

  • Cross your fingers into your hand, without both thumbs. Let the thumbs touch each other at the top, and pull up a little.

  • Concentrate on the Throat Chakra and the part it represents, at the base of the throat.

  • While doing this, allow yourself to relax, still thinking about the chakras, their meanings, and how or should how they affect your life.
  • Do this for five minutes, then the "clean" feeling will strengthen again.

Step 7. Open the Third Eye Chakra (blue)

As the name suggests, this chakra deals with insight. When open, you have good psychic abilities, and tend to dream a lot. If this chakra is lacking: you tend to want other people to think about you. In addition to relying too much on beliefs, you also tend to get confused often. If you're overactive: you tend to live in an imaginary world all day. At an extreme point, you can often fantasize, or even experience hallucinations.

  • Sit cross-legged.

  • Place both hands under the breasts. The middle finger should be straight and touching up, away from you. The other fingers are bent and touch the bones of the fingers. Both thumbs point to you and meet at the top.

  • Concentrate on the Third Eye Chakra and the part it represents, slightly above the eyebrows.

  • Silently, but clearly, hum the sound "OM" or "AUM."
  • During this time, relaxation of the body should occur naturally, and think constantly about the chakras, their meaning, and how they affect your life.
  • Do this until the "clean" feeling returns or strengthens.

Step 8. Open the Crown Chakra (purple)

This is the seventh chakra and the most spiritual. This chakra encompasses wisdom and union with the universe. When this chakra opens, prejudice disappears from your To-do list, and you better understand the world and how it relates to you. If this chakra is underactive: you tend to be less spiritual, and perhaps your thinking is very rigid. If you're too active: You tend to think things through. Spirituality comes to mind first, and if you are really too active, you may be neglecting your physical needs (food, water, shelter).

  • Sit cross-legged.
  • Place both hands in front of the stomach. Let the little finger point up and away from you, touching the top, and then cross the other fingers with the left thumb under the right thumb.

  • Concentrate on the Crown Chakra and the part it represents, the top of your head.

  • Silently, but clearly, hum the sound of "NG" (yes, humming is indeed difficult).
  • Now your body will always be relaxed, and your mind calm. However, do not stop concentrating on the Crown Chakra.
  • This meditation is the longest, and takes no less than ten minutes.
  • WARNING: do not use this meditation for the Crown Chakra if your Basic Chakra is not yet strong or open. Before dealing with this last chakra, you need a "foundation" first, which can be obtained by training the Basic Chakra.

Recommended:
