Sugar soap (literally, sugar soap) is a sweet name, and you can use it to sweeten walls and brighten them up! Sugar soap is a chemical cleaner that is usually used to wash walls before painting. This soap is also often used to brighten walls where the paint is already dirty. You can use sugar soap on the wall to restore its beauty by spraying sugar soap and rinsing it clean.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Protecting Floors and Walls
Step 1. Place a drop cloth under the wall to be cleaned
You can buy drop cloth at a hardware or hardware store. Arrange the drop cloth in such a way that the floor under the wall to be sprayed with sugar soap is tightly covered. Drop cloth will prevent damage to the floor due to sugar soap and water.
Step 2. Move or cover the furniture
Move furniture that is near the wall so that it does not get splashed with water or soap. If it cannot be moved, cover the furniture with a plastic sheet to protect it from spills and splashes of liquid.
Step 3. Cover the electrical outlet with tape
Use masking tape or duct tape to cover the wall socket or power plug to be cleaned. Also make sure to close all sockets on the baseboard (boards installed at the junction between the wall and the floor) because they have the potential to be splashed with liquid. This minimizes the risk of splashes or spills that could damage the outlet.
Step 4. Clean the walls
Use a duster or a small broom to clean the walls. This dust removal will make it easier for the sugar soap to work on the walls. This is also to ensure that no dirt is still attached.
Step 5. Remove the stain using a baking soda paste
Make a paste by mixing water and baking soda in equal proportions. Use a clean cloth or fingers to apply the paste to any stains or scratches on the walls. Next, rub the scratch or stain with a clean cloth until it's no longer visible.
Baking soda paste can be safely used on any paint color without flaking or fading
Part 2 of 2: Cleaning the Walls with Sugar Soap
Step 1. Wear protective gear
Before starting to use sugar soap, wear safety glasses, rubber gloves, and a protective face mask. The equipment will protect the eyes and skin from sugar soap.
Step 2. Dilute the sugar soap
Put warm water in a clean spray bottle. Next, add sugar soap in the appropriate amount according to the dosage listed on the package. Stir until the sugar soap is dissolved.
Use more sugar soap in warm water to increase its effectiveness
Step 3. Spray the sugar soap mixture on the wall
Start at the top of the wall, by spraying the sugar soap mixture onto a small section of the wall. Let the sugar soap sit there for 30 to 60 seconds. After that, wipe the walls with a clean sponge or cloth.
If the wall area is very dirty, let the sugar soap sit longer
Step 4. Continue the process to all parts of the wall
Keep spraying the walls with sugar soap until you reach the bottom. Focus the spray on the center of the wall as this is usually the dirtiest area. Wipe off the soiled sugar soap with a sponge each time you finish a section of the wall.
Step 5. Rinse the wall using a damp sponge
Put clean warm water in a bucket or container. Dip a sponge in the container and squeeze out the excess water. Examine the walls and wipe them section by section with a sponge dipped in water to remove any remaining sugar soap or dirt. Continue rinsing the walls until you reach the bottom.
Rinse the sponge in the bucket every time you finish cleaning a section of the wall to keep dirt and stains from spreading
Step 6. Dry the wall
Prepare a clean and dry towel. Use the towel to wipe or pat a freshly cleaned wall. See if there are still stains on the fabric. If so, clean the area again with sugar soap.
